This book was surprisingly good! I completely thought that it was about aliens, which I am not too fond of (they scare me a little), but it wasn't. The concept of "phenomenon children" was very cool, they had special talents that no one else could do and the government was after them to kidnap them and use them for experiments. At the beginning of the book I wasn't sure what was going on and so I was a little confused. It didn't take long for me to fully understand, as everything was explained v...more

The New Phenomenon is a fantastic book about a boy named Christian, Christian moves to a small town called Red Oak Iowa, there he is the new student, and in this small town everybody knows his business. Before school started Christian got in an accident and he got this strange ability, and he knows that if he tells anyone about this ability he could get into big trouble.
I really liked this book, and not just because my English teacher wrote the book, but because it was truly good. I liked the f...more

I loved the book Mr. Raabe. It's one of the few books that deals with teenagers and how they really react to situations like these. I looked forward to read it every day I woke up and every class period I hoped for time to continue the adventure alongside Christian. I have even recommended it to others and I hope they too, read and enjoy it as much as I did.
I have to say, Christian was my favorite character. He was the character that we observed the story through and it was amazing to see thin...more

There are many things I really enjoyed about Christian and his journey. I love that Christian has a loving family, it's always nice to see that. I love that he has a temper though he tries to control it. I loved that he notices the girls, but he isn't a leering pig.
I'll be honest, I was a little hesitant to start this as it contains 2 things that I don't connect with - high school and football. I enjoyed my time in high school, but my experience wasn't the drama-filled overly-cliquish one that...more

Wow. Wow, wow, wow. Is that sufficient to sum up how I feel about The New Phenomenon?

Okay, it's not. So, let me just say this:

I LOVED THIS BOOK.

All caps completely necessary. Really, it was awesome. The action starts right away and the story stays interesting up until the very end. At one point, I was worried that the book was going to take a turn into the cliched government-is-after-kids-with-superpowers story, but it didn't. I was so glad when it didn't turn out that way; if it had become a cl...more

The New Phenom3non is a fantastic book! It is well written and you can really relate to it. There is something everyone can relate to from annoying little sisters, friend drama, or sports. Everyone should read it because there is somthing that everyone likes. There is romance, action, and super natral abilities. With so many different genres you think it would be over welming, but it is put together very well.
The characters are very well developed even for not being a major role. My favorite c...more

*I received this book for review; however, all opinions in this review are solely my own.

When I received this book for review, I was a little surprised. The New Phenomenon is by far the lengthiest review book I've had so far. I pushed it back on my list of review books because I feared getting stuck in the middle of the novel and being unable to get to the huge pile of books I needed to review. Thankfully, that was not a problem. I was able to finish the New Phenomenon quickly and enjoy it. I...more

Amazing! This book literally started with a bang, or a tornado, and just kept getting better. Yes, it begins with a tornado chasing after the main character. He has just finished a fishing trip with a cousin and his grandpa. A tornado destroys the truck they are in. Christian ends up at the bottom of a lake inside the truck and guess what, he can breathe under water... This all happens in New Mexico, yup, the land of UFO's. This is not a story about UFO's but rather about phenomenon children. Co...more

I thought this book was one that my 12 year old son would interested in, so I wanted to check it out it first to make sure it was appropriate before letting him read it. I loved the story, and I definitely think my son will enjoy this book as well. Having grown up in a small town, I felt the author accurately protrayed life in a small town and school, and I enjoyed that aspect of the story. The book has a lot of action and drama in it to keep your interest, and I especially loved that Christian,...more

I love this book! The action is what I like the most because it starts right at the beginning. I also like how after you start the book you don't want to put it down. It keeps you on the edge of your seat waiting to find out more. It has really good vocabulary. It gives great detail on everything and would be a fantastic movie.
My favorite character was Alexis. She is my favorite because she plays volleyball and her ability. I think it would be pretty cool to have the ability to hear from far a...more

I really loved this book! At first it was kind of slow for me but when I got further into it and the action started I didn't want to put it down! I liked how it wasn't just action, but it had some romance and drama, and made me keep wanting to read it. I liked how everyone can to relate to something that happens in the book.

What I liked about the book was the suspense and the dramatic twists. At the end of chapters and sometimes even at the beginning or middle of a chapter a surprise waits for you. It keeps you reading. My favorite character was Grandpa Pearson. He would never run away from danger and he always kept his cool during hairy situations. You should read this book because it relates so much with real life.

In this book so many things happen to characters that if you skip a chapter you would be totally los...more

Obviously, I am the author of The New Phenomenon, and I like my own book. I wrote this book for the reluctant readers who enter my classroom every year. I hope you read it and enjoy it. Please come back and give it a review.

Best Book Ever!
I am definitely going to read the next books.

The New Phenom3non has a lot of action and it makes you want to keep reading.Christian, the main character, is my favorite character.
We learn the most about Christian. If I had to choose one of the "special talents" to have, I would choose Christian's.

This book captivated my attention from the beginning to the end. I found it to be a fast paced drama that should easily appeal to the young adults............or washed-up, middle aged adults that grew up dreaming of super human abilities when they were kids! Of course, I especially enjoyed and appreciated the dynamic relationships between family, friends and foes; and the high school drama and sporting flare, which made me reminisce of times long past.

Mr. Raabe certainly has a gift of his own,...more

This is a very good book! I liked it so much because there was romance and thrilling events. My favorite character would probably have been Christian because of some of the little funny things he did and said. My second favorite would have to be Alexis because she reminds me of me, tall and plays volleyball.
Other people should read this book becuase it's a great read. Once you get past the first 4 chapters you don't want to stop reading. I loved the suspence in every chapter. I also liked when...more

I thought Christian was a good role-model character. It's nice to read about an adolescent male who isn't a jerk (although there is one of those in this book).

I agree with other reviewers that the description of the football games lost me because of my lack of experience with it; I just couldn't visualize what was happening. I would definitely recommend this to my reluctant male reader who enjoy sports novels.

I was also very aware of the descriptions of place. Being from Nebraska, I could very...more

Well... I am so excited that my 13 year old boy is also reading The New Phenomenon. He plays football, loves to fish, and went to pre school with Chris's daughter, so if he was going to pick up a book, this would be it! Chris came to his middle school, (where he use to teach), and talked to the kids. He apparently made SOME impact, to get my buddy to pick up, and read!

I thought The New Phenomenon was well written. It was fun to read about interactions, and small town life. Good job on your first...more

As this is a book I will be student teaching with, I wanted to read it before so I knew what's going on and when. Chris Raabe is actually a teacher at the school I'm student teaching at, so I've met him and could "hear" his voice in the novel. Christian is a kid from a big town (Omaha), who moves to a small town (Red Oak), because his dad becomes the principal of the middle school. He faces what all kids face when they hit a new town or school, indecision. What kids to be friends with, what spor...more

The book The New Phenomenon was a fantastic book. I really liked it because Mr Raabe included things we do in our English classes with him in the book. I also liked it because its a real page turner. You are always wanting to know what events are going to follow the last one you read about. My favorite character would have to be Christian because the whole book is from his point of view. I think other people should read this book because it is a good book for all ages and I thought it was outsta...more
