Does this scene from a 50's horror movie sound familiar? Teenaged kids come running into the sheriff's office, only to get kicked out from there when they tell the law officer in charge that they have seen a monster? Sheriff Clayton Harris, however, is the exception that confirms the rule. If any kids entered his office telling him such farfetched tales, he would listen. ...more

If you're looking for 'vampire' entertainment, and you like your blood suckers moderately bloody with a large dose of sly humor, then I heartily recommend Edwin Stark's The Clayton Chronicles. Comprised of two novellas, The Wandering Blood and Blood Mall, these are vampires tales with bite and a biting sense of fun.
Sheriff Clayton Harris is used to quiet in his little town of Nosfort, Massachusetts, until one day a body, drained of blood with puncture marks in its throat, messes everything up. H

Deeper Story Than Just vampires!
My best friend gifted me this book and I wasn't sure what to expect when I started to read it. Right off the bat, I can say I loved the use of language. I felt the author used insightful words that helped to bring his tale to life for me in a deeper fashion. His choice of verbiage was in and of itself quite descriptive, adding to the overall feel and quality of the story for me. This was beautifully written and I liked the pace and style in which the author unfold

I believe Stark has a hit with this series. I think I enjoyed the authors notes almost as much as the story.

The story line is eerie, and if you love the horror of it, this is definitely the one to read. The characters are well developed, and his descriptions of the town and the people put me right there with them. I could picture being in the town, and going into the bowling alley, just fantastic details.

I look forward to seeing more from Edwin Stark in the future.

Shelves: vampires
When a friend recommended me The Clayton Chronicles I didn't expect to like them much--I don't do horror gracefully, but I was pleasantly surprised with this book. It is not horror. The tone is detective/comedy with a twist of action sparkled with gore-ash here and there.

The characters are lovable, even when the author acts as if he didn't like them at times. I found myself rooting for Clay and Sherwin and wondering what the old vampire would come up with next.

Clayton Harris is the chief of poli

Edwin has woven two twisted tales of rogue vampires trying to make a hive in the small northeastern town of Nosforts, Massachusetts. The first story starts when a young boy playing alone in the woods, poking dead animals with a pointy stick, comes across a dead mans body. He reports this to the town sheriff Clayton Harris. Sheriff Harris must employ the help of Sherwin Williams, a new stranger in town who happens to be from the Vampiric High Council, to save his town. In the second story young ...more

Bram Stoker's, Dracula was the only vampire novel I have read until The Clayton Chronicles. I'm so happy I took a chance on Mr. Stark's book. In many ways it read like an old, classic movie. And I love old movies! I was instantly engrossed in the story lines. Yes, with this publication you get TWO novellas for the price of one! The writing was fast-paced yet elegant. I really enjoyed the quirky, snappy dialogue. I love any book where the plot is woven with humor. Clayton Harris and Sherwin ...more

Classic horror… These are gritty tales with a touch of irreverence – a dash of humour. Awesome detail in constructing both the setting and characters. This is what gives it the classic feel for me. It’s like one of those old late night scary movies that has you so involved that you’re clawing the armrest of your lounge. I think the pacing adds to that too. There’s some real suspense here – the creepy kind. And a great cast of characters! Everything works from the seriously gruesome to the mildly ...more

The style of writing of this book was different than what I'm used to and took some getting used to. I found it to be a bit wordy where the author says the same things only with different words. I did enjoy this book and appreciated the humor in it. I first story I would give 3 stars and the second story 4 stars. I really did enjoy the characters in the book and hope to read more of Sherman's and Clayton's adventures.

I am new to Mr Stark's work, but now I am a fan. This is a good one with lots of scare and vamps--some good (as good as a vamp can be) and some not so nice. Small town sheriff with paranormal problems. Good stories that keep you turning those pages.
