Interesting take on the early years of the American colonial period, leading to the years that was reputed as "Manila's most glittering decade" which coincided with the Roaring 20's in the United States. What I liked about the book is that the opening and the middle chapters went through the major historical events of the period--from the zarzuela to the cinemas, sanitation, education, public health, among others.
