I was soooooo excited to get this book in the mail. I love Heather Burch's writing voice and I started reading Guardian the minute I got it.
Thing is, I got annoyed when I started it. The book had enough action to keep me reading, but it was mainly all about the love triangle between Mace, Nikki and Raven. I don't mind romance, but I did get a bit irritated with Nikki after awhile. She was selfish and a bit ...dumb.
She got herself into dangerous situations and the boys had to rescue her. She cri...more

I really tried.
Some of you are troopers. You come across a book you loathe and despise and yet you manage to make it to the end. Not me. Uh-uh. One wrong look, one false move, and that book gets tossed into the donation box faster than you can say, "Bitch, please."
There are so many things wrong with this book that I don't quite know where to begin without descending into a torrent of curse-words and feminist rants. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but it's not particularly con...more

Guardian is the second installment of the Halflings series. I found that out when I received this ARC, so obviously, I had to read Halflings and thankfully, I liked it. But I liked this one better!
Guardian is action-packed. A lot happens to Nikki who doesn't know who to turn to anymore. Guardian is an excellent addition to the Halflings series. Heather Burch intensifies the classic love-triangle theme while piling on surprising plot twists and teen angst. The novel is a steady climax of action, passion, and spiritual and emotional understanding.

Ok, so this is the first book review i have ever written, mainly because i have never felt this compelled to inform the world about how i feel about this book. I never studied literature or english or anything like that, i just enjoy books in the free time.
If you're looking for a strong main character who never gives up and is unwavering in her decisions, THIS IS NOT IT

Guardian is a fantastic book. I like the characters and the story line. The story line is a girl named Nora is running from her godfather with a family of Halflings who protect her from demons and other things. The characters are amazing as well. It feels like I can reach out and touch them through the book.(view spoiler)...more
Loved! Guardian picks up right where Halflings leaves off. Nikki is living with the halflings now and still struggling for her feelings for both Mace and Raven. Both boys are on a mission from the Throne to protect her but the complications make working together nearly impossible. Damon is still trying to manipulate Nikki and she is having to get used to her new powers. But is there more to all of it than they know?

I'm sad but relieved that that's over. I have that feeling you get when you get off a roller coaster and you don't know whether to smile or hyperventilate. I feel exhilarated but also kinda sick; I don't know whether to smile and say, yeah let's go again!, or collapse from relief that it's over. The last book I remember doing this to me was probably Shadowfever when we meet Mac 2.0 for the first time. This was the same. Goodbye, Rainbow Girl.

I did not realize when i requested this book that it was one in a series. Based on the high ratings I thought I'd enjoy the series, so I bought the first book in order to read this one in context. Somehow I managed to finish both. (I may've skimmed some scenes...)

The second book in the series, and like so many other series, the second book is far and away the better book. Maybe that is because first books build the characters to the point of interest (or not), and second books get to work on plot for characters you are already invested in.
This book really got going with the plot, with some substantial leaps in the main character's development. As you get closer and closer to the end of this book all you can do is beg for the next book to be within reach...more
I definitely enjoyed this a lot more than the first book. The whole story, characters, decision, outcomes, etc all seemed a lot better than in Halflings. Nikki wasn't as annoying though toward the end I really wanted to hit her a few times. (But I see someone did at least get to do that to her)

I can never get the time I spent reading this book back again. In the time I spent, I could have been reading another book. Or hoping the only good character in here (Zero) could have been better developed and put into a better story. Or vacuuming. Or doing homework. Or finding matching socks.

I received this book from NetGalley and Zonderkidz for an honest review. Nikki Youngblood is still being protected by two Halflings. She has feelings for both Mace and Raven and tries her best to fight those feelings even as they try to figure out why Damon Vessler wants Nikki so bad and what he is up to. Okay I am giving this 3 1/2 stars. Now, I will be honest I haven't read the first one though I want to one day - so it was a bit difficult to read this one. However once I started reading I was able to pretty quickly put things together so it made sense.
Can I just say I LOVE Raven's character? He is awesome!

I stopped somewhere in chapter 13 where Raven and Richmond was looking at the mutated horses. I am sooo sorry I couldn't finish it. It was just that the love triangle thing and even if she don't choose one Raven And Mace is always mad or sad, feeling just a little more empty. But if she chooses one the other will be doomed with a life of no love while the other loves Nikki as long as she is youthful. This is the second in the series, with two short stories just to add to the excitement. As many ‘middle’ books do, this one lags a little after the racing pattern of the first book, but it still left me wanting more at the end. The premise is entertaining, and the story exciting. As Nikki fights herself on which halfling she truely loves. The safe Mace or the rebel Raven. She herself is battling an inner demon even when the group take her away from Vessler she still feels a pull towards him. And even after finding out what she is at the end there is still a pull.
