Vigilance. The mission to safeguard Nikki Youngblood depends on the fragile alliance of two half-angel, half-human guardians, both struggling with intense feelings for the girl who has been assigned to their care. Mace, steadfast and deeply in love, wants to protect Nikki at all costs, while Raven's loyalty to Nikki finds him advocating for her independence and battling hi...more

I was soooooo excited to get this book in the mail. I love Heather Burch's writing voice and I started reading Guardian the minute I got it.

Thing is, I got annoyed when I started it. The book had enough action to keep me reading, but it was mainly all about the love triangle between Mace, Nikki and Raven. I don't mind romance, but I did get a bit irritated with Nikki after awhile. She was selfish and a bit ...dumb.

She got herself into dangerous situations and the boys had to rescue her. She cri...more

I tried.

I really tried.

Some of you are troopers. You come across a book you loathe and despise and yet you manage to make it to the end. Not me. Uh-uh. One wrong look, one false move, and that book gets tossed into the donation box faster than you can say, "Bitch, please."

There are so many things wrong with this book that I don't quite know where to begin without descending into a torrent of curse-words and feminist rants. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but it's not particularly con...more

Guardian is the second installment of the Halflings series. I found that out when I received this ARC, so obviously, I had to read Halflings and thankfully, I liked it. But I liked this one better!

Guardian is action-packed. A lot happens to Nikki who doesn't know who to turn to anymore. She tries to improve herself and work on her abilities but Mace is overprotective and Raven is always in her face. She's in love with one and she's attracted and attached to the other. So, of course, it complicat...more

Wow, let me start off saying this book is full of suspense and revelations that we get to discover. I do not want to spoil anything for anyone, so this review will not be as in depth as most are.
I will say, I still love Mace and Raven, and had a hard time with Nikki at times, but these times there seems to be a good reason that she acts the way she does...more

Guardian is an excellent addition to the Halflings series. Heather Burch intensifies the classic love-triangle theme while piling on surprising plot twists and teen angst. The novel is a steady climax of action, passion, and spiritual and emotional understanding.

Even though we've only just been introduced to Nikki Youngblood and the Lost Boys: Raven, Mace, and Vine, they've all shown considerable amounts of growth. All of the Halflings and Nikki are focusing on the threat that still hasn't beco...more

Ok, so this is the first book review i have ever written, mainly because i have never felt this compelled to inform the world about how i feel about this book. I never studied literature or english or anything like that, i just enjoy books in the free time.

If you're looking for a strong main character who never gives up and is unwavering in her decisions, THIS IS NOT IT
GO BACK DON'T EVEN BOTHER READING THIS BOOK.

These are SOME of the problems I've had with it:
1) Nikki is way to fickle minded....more

Guardian is a fantastic book. I like the characters and the story line. The story line is a girl named Nora is running from her godfather with a family of Halflings who protect her from demons and other things. The characters are amazing as well. It feels like I can reach out and touch them through the book.(view spoiler)[There are so many twists in this book, it isn't even funny. For one, apparently, Nora is a Halfling. For two, Damon Vessler is the head of the Omega Corp. and is trying to kil...more

Loved! Guardian picks up right where Halflings leaves off. Nikki is living with the halflings now and still struggling for her feelings for both Mace and Raven. Both boys are on a mission from the Throne to protect her but the complications make working together nearly impossible. Damon is still trying to manipulate Nikki and she is having to get used to her new powers. But is there more to all of it than they know?
I couldn't wait to read this and it didn't disappoint. Nikki is growing in her po...more

I'm sad but relieved that that's over. I have that feeling you get when you get off a roller coaster and you don't know whether to smile or hyperventilate. I feel exhilarated but also kinda sick; I don't know whether to smile and say, yeah let's go again!, or collapse from relief that it's over. The last book I remember doing this to me was probably Shadowfever when we meet Mac 2.0 for the first time. This was the same. Goodbye, Rainbow Girl.

Guardian is dark: don't expect to find much hope hidde...more

Heather Burch’s Guardian, part two of the Halflings series, and deepens the developing plot with its classic love-triangle and startling twists. Although Nikki Youngblood would rather want everything to return to the way it was, she is in too deep and there is really no going back. She knows that her feelings for Raven and Mace could cost them their eternity, she cannot help her emotions from getting stronger towards them. She needs protection which Mace can provide, but she craves freedom that...more

Nikki Youngblood just wants things to go back to the way they were before. Before her life spun out of her control. Before she was haunted by hell hounds. Before her parents were murdered. Before she heard of Halflings. Before she fell for not one but two of them…
Nikki can’t help but fall deeper in love with each of them even though she knows it could cost them their eternity.
Mace is safe and dedicated. Protecting her against the evil that threatens her. Mace is what Nikki needs.
Raven is advent...more

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher, who provided me with an ARC for review purposes.

I did not realize when i requested this book that it was one in a series. Based on the high ratings I thought I'd enjoy the series, so I bought the first book in order to read this one in context. Somehow I managed to finish both. (I may've skimmed some scenes...)

So why didn't I love this book? First, the plot was a little shaky in my opinion. I was not drawn in enough by what was happening - I felt like the...more

The next book in the Halflings series packs a punch, that's for sure!! Now, for my gif-by-gif analysis:

At the end of the last book we were all like:

Noble as ever, our heroine - Nikki - decides to stay strong and not lead on either guy:

If Halflings had me torn, Guardian has me ripped apart. And not in a good way. Sure, Halflings disappointed me in some respects, but it at least still had enough to make me hope for improvements. Guardian managed to nothing but infuriate me chapter after chapter. But let me start...more

The second book in the series, and like so many other series, the second book is far and away the better book. Maybe that is because first books build the characters to the point of interest (or not), and second books get to work on plot for characters you are already invested in.

This book really got going with the plot, with some substantial leaps in the main character's development. As you get closer and closer to the end of this book all you can do is beg for the next book to be within reach...more

I definitely enjoyed this a lot more than the first book. The whole story, characters, decision, outcomes, etc all seemed a lot better than in Halflings. Nikki wasn't as annoying though toward the end I really wanted to hit her a few times. (But I see someone did at least get to do that to her)

We meet some new, gorgeous halflings in this book and I really hope we see more of them. They're guys, beautiful blue eyes and oh, did I mention they have Australian accents? Sure, you're reading a book so...more

Thanks to Goodreads First Reads and the Z Street Team for an ARC of Guardian Halflings 2.

Guardian is the second book in the Halflings series by Heather Burch. I did not read the first book in the series, but the author gave enough back-story in the beginning of this book that I got caught up to speed pretty quickly. This book focuses on Nikki, a Seer, after her parents are murdered and she kills a hellhound from the previous book in the series. Mace and Raven are her love interests, both Halflin...more

As my readers well know, the young adult genre happens to be one of my favorite. And when you add in a touch of the paranormal I am almost guaranteed to like the book. Almost being the key word here. I had some issues with GUARDIAN that interfered with my enjoyment of the story.

First of all, GUARDIAN is the second book of the Halfling series and I didn't feel that it stood very well on its own. I spent the first quarter of the book confused because the author tends to refer to happenings in the...more

In this much anticipated follow-up book to Halflings, Nikki's adventures take her and the Halflings across the globe. As they seek to win over evil and learn the plans of their foe, Mace and Raven vie for her attention. Will either one win her heart or will she choose no one? After over-hearing the Halflings speak about her and the problems she has brought them, she decides to return home to Damon Vessler and continue her martial arts training. Under his direction, she taps into her darker side...more

Guardian is the sequel to Halflings by Heather Burch. It continues the story of Nikki Youngblood and the Halflings (half humans/half angels).

The love triangle between these three takes up a good portion of the book. She seems to feel for them in separate ways. Now granted Nikki has been through a lot recently, with her parents’ death, finding out she is a Seer, and having to fight off evil that is somehow drawn to her. I get that her emotions are most likely running on overdrive by now, but it f...more

I can never get the time I spent reading this book back again. In the time I spent, I could have been reading another book. Or hoping the only good character in here (Zero) could have been better developed and put into a better story. Or vacuuming. Or doing homework. Or finding matching socks.
But I can't. Why? Because this utter mess of pages had to be read in order for me to exert the full extent of exasperation on it. I didn't even know what was going on half the time. Here's what it mostly c...more

*Spoiler alert! Don't read this if you haven't read Halflings, the first book in this series*

While I didn't totally enjoy Guardian, I do think it was better than the first book in this series, Halflings. I didn't like the insta-love and obvious bad guy in Halflings. Guardian feels like a more developed book. I do have to say, Guardian is definitely more character-driven than plot-driven. For me, this was good, because I always prefer characters over anything else in a book. But the plot...more

I received this book from NetGalley and Zonderkidz for an honest review. Nikki Youngblood is still being protected by two Halflings. She has feelings for both Mace and Raven and tries her best to fight those feelings even as they try to figure out why Damon Vessler wants Nikki so bad and what he is up to. There may be more to Nikki than even she knows.

This is the second book in the Halflings series and it is just as good as the first book. Nikki is a character that you can actually like. Yes s...more

Okay I am giving this 3 1/2 stars. Now, I will be honest I haven't read the first one though I want to one day - so it was a bit difficult to read this one. However once I started reading I was able to pretty quickly put things together so it made sense.

Can I just say I LOVE Raven's character? He is awesome!

Now for my real review - It was interesting. I can't say I loved it, but I liked it. Nikki's character drove me crazy though I am not sure why. In fact, if it wasn't for Raven I probably wou...more

Special Thanks to Goodreads FirstReads and Zondervan for giving me the opportunity to receive an advanced copy of Burch's Guardian. I actually ended up getting the book in the mail on the Release date, oct. 8, but it was cool nonetheless.
When i read the first book, Halflings, I wasn't too keen on it at first. I thought it resembled Meyer's Twilight, what with the lead female being saved from near-death experiences by the two swoon-worthy male characters. They were even referred to as Greek go...more

I stopped somewhere in chapter 13 where Raven and Richmond was looking at the mutated horses. I am sooo sorry I couldn't finish it. It was just that the love triangle thing and even if she don't choose one Raven And Mace is always mad or sad, feeling just a little more empty. But if she chooses one the other will be doomed with a life of no love while the other loves Nikki as long as she is youthful. Then there's the whole 'they can't fall in love with a human and be granted eternity of peace, a...more

This is the second in the series, with two short stories just to add to the excitement. As many ‘middle’ books do, this one lags a little after the racing pattern of the first book, but it still left me wanting more at the end. The premise is entertaining, and the story exciting. The Halflings are to protect Nikki, but they become involved with her emotionally, which is a big NO-NO. This book is a little less exciting because it deals with Nikki’s, Mace’s, and Raven’s feelings a great deal, but...more

As Nikki fights herself on which halfling she truely loves. The safe Mace or the rebel Raven. She herself is battling an inner demon even when the group take her away from Vessler she still feels a pull towards him. And even after finding out what she is at the end there is still a pull. I found this book much better than the first one even tho Nikki needs to stop pulling at these boys hearts. I like the story plot and how Heather Burch writes this book and I will definatly want to read the next...more
