Tracy Sumner is one of my new favorite authors. Wow! I absolutely adored both of these novels. From start to finish, these books captivated me and transported me to another time and place, and made me feel a true part of Pilot Isle and the Garret family. I felt every emotional, from turmoil to love, that these amazingly created characters felt. The writing style that Ms. Sumner uses is beyond incredible.

In Tides Of Love, we get the first glimpse of the Garrets. They're a family filled with heartache and turmoil, when Noah Garret, youngest son finds out a secret that will forever change his life. Being raised by his big brother Zach, Noah runs, leaving them wondering what happened to him. He stays gone for 10 years, living life as a biologist in Chicago, leaving behind two big brothers, and a broken heart-ed young girl, Elle. Elle depended on Noah and looked up to him for protection. When he left, it tore her heart to pieces, but she moved on. When Noah returns, lives are changed once again. But, can it be for the better? Can Noah realize that it doesn't matter about his past, that family is more important than who sired you, and that love can conquer all? Watching Noah and Elle come to terms with their feelings, especially after tragedy strikes again, was absolutely stunning!

In Tides Of Passion, we get Zachariah "Zach" Garrett's story. Town Constable and single widowed father of one rambunctious little boy, Zach isn't ready for the havoc that Ms. Savannah Conner causes with her women's protests. His wife died two years ago and he's just not ready for the likes of Ms. Conner......or so he thinks. Savannah Conner can't help but be attracted to the town Constable....he's tall, handsome and just absolutely captivating in her eyes. The two amazing characters fight the attraction and come to terms with it, all at once. I absolutely loved watching them grown in their feelings for each. There was evident hesitation from Savannah and Zach, but in the end, I enjoyed seeing the outcome. And sweet little Rory, Zach's son, was just an amazing addition to both stories! He's such a cutie and reminded me so much of my own kids!

These books are just two of the brothers' stories. I am absolutely anxious for the release of Tides Of Desire,Caleb "Cale" Garrett's story, next! These books will sweep you away, steal your breath and leaving you loving each and every character. I definitely recommend these two books with high flying 5 Books and two thumbs up. For historical romance fans out there, these are two must read books to add to your list of reading books! Of course, I'm king of partial since I live in North Carolina, the setting for these beautifully wrriten books. Amazing job, Ms. Sumner, and bring on the next :).(less)

I've been reading a lot of books about women on boats, lately, so it seems only natural that I shifted to women on beaches. While I don't read a huge number of romance novels, or historicals, I enjoy both when done well. Based on my recent reading of Tides of Love Tracy Sumner does them well.

I've been reading a lot of books about women on boats, lately, so it seems only natural that I shifted to women on beaches. While I don't read a huge number of romance novels, or historicals, I enjoy both when done well. Based on my recent reading of Tides of Love Tracy Sumner does them well.

Marielle-Claire (Elle) Beaumont is a smart, feisty young woman, but she's also written in a manner that doesn't make her seem jarringly out of period. She's curious about sex, and appropriately innocent of certain facts, but not so naive that she doesn't understand the theory. I like that she admits she wants love, that she knows herself that well, and I also applaud the author's choice to give her not just the means for an education but the desire for one.

Likewise, romantic lead Noah, while prickly and clearly suffering from childhood trauma and innate sensitivity, is well-drawn as a scholarly, reasonably type in a place where sheer physicality rules the day. It's a classic trope, but it's one that works, and in this novel, it works especially well - as does the mystery of his real-world romantic experience.

The background characters were also nicely written. The teaser chapters attached to the back of the book show that there's a sequel that focuses on one of Noah's brothers, but all the of the townsfolk were interesting people I'd enjoy reading more about.

In reviewing a romance novel, you have to take a moment to discuss the sex scenes. Sumner's writing in these scenes was a nice balance - not too clinical, not too comical, not too florid. While I'm personally opposed to sex on the beach (sand just should not go in certain places), I had no problem believing the passion that drew these two characters to it.

The plot itself is also decent. Yes, it's obvious that Elle and Noah will eventually end up together, but we know that of every romance novel pair. What we don't know is the specific journey, and with her attention to history and careful dialogue Ms. Sumner's Tides of Love leaves nothing lacking.

It's light reading. But it's very satisfying light reading.

There were times when I was just really unsure what was going on. For instance, there was a love scene that was so strangely conveyed that on two separate occasions I thought the author was describing the actual moment of consummation, only to discover a few sentences later, and at the end of the scene, that no actual penetration took place. Incredibly hard on the momentum, for a reader, when you find yourself going back through the text to find out where you got lost.

There were also a couple other difficulties, such as the opening of book, which describes the incident which creates the conflict which fuels the book. The 'incident' - which had two brothers discovering that one was a born bastard - wasn't sufficient, in my opinion,to explain why a 17 year old boy ran away from his family for 10 years without a word. A few harsh words and one punch thrown by one brother to another, in a moment of shocking revelation, just doesn't justify the younger, and much loved brother, leaving for 10 years with no contact what-so-ever. Conflict happens in all families, and where there is love, there is usually a cooling of tempers and resolution. I kept waiting to hear of additional abuse or neglect to justify his flight, but it never came.

Additionally, I found more typos, and omitted words, and editing errors than I could count - and choppy dialogue which sometimes had me wondering if certain characters were developmentally delayed.

All that said, I sincerely enjoyed this book! I would gladly overlook all of those flaws to read it again, and intend to start the sequel the minute I finish this review! I loved the setting, and characters, and was overjoyed to find them happily together in the end.

I would recommend this book to those who love a good chase. The heroine works hard for her love, and exhibits such heartfelt and generous patience that I found myself cheering for her, and for him to find the courage to allow his heart to love.(less)

So when Noah shows up back in town her world is rocked.

Elle and Noah are complete opposites. She's passionate about her causes, loyal to a fault and will do just about anything to help someone who needs it and spontaneous. Noah has to think things through, make lists and exam every angle before he can make a decision. He likes order and doesn't do well when someone upsets his balance. But upset his balance is what Elle has always been good at doing with Noah, even more so now that he's an adult. He has no control over his emotions or his libido and because of that he's irrational and not at all kind when it comes to Elle.

Elle, with her impulsiveness doesn't always give Noah the chance to catch up to her. She doesn't always take into account Noah's need to assess things or give him the chance to explain himself. By ignoring all those things, she brings a lot of heartache upon herself (at least where Noah is concerned).

An interesting story, proving that you can come back home and fight the demons you left behind while finding the one thing you need the most was right in front of you.

After reading a glowing review on a blog I follow on the second book in this series, Tides of Passion that sparked my interest I thought it best to start with the first book Tides of Love. At only $2.99 on Amazon I would say this book is worth the price. Tracy Sumner is a new author for me and I must admit I found Tides of Love a little slow going at the start and will admit to quickly flicking over a few pages.

A great story of two people in love, but both are too stubborn to see that love. i enjoyed reading as these two find that love, but continually push the other one away. Thankfully, one is strong enough to pursue the other and they finally do end up together. It also showed us how sometimes it is others that help to bring out the best in us, and that we should not be afraid to put our vulerbility out there, for when we take those chances, is often when we find out one true love.

I'm not a huge fan of historical fiction b/c the language and settings make me have to think too much...sounds stupid right? Anyways, I think this had an effect on my rating of the book...just not for me as much. I did enjoy Noah and Elle, but was starting to get frustrated with Noah around the middle of the book. All and all enjoyable.
