Here is a tender blending of memoir and theology, a joining of heart and mind, a sober yet joyful consideration of Scripture in the face of one of life’s deepest and most grievous trials.

What exactly happens to those who die as Christians? What do they immediately experience? What is their existence like right now? What will happen to them when Christ returns to earth?

Another great read from www.cruciform.com that I receive monthly on my kindle. Something I have not considered but gave me great comfort that it is not true that death is a part of life. We have all heard that before. Martin explains the gospel in that premise and how when we are in Christ, we are with him. In fact, it is an answer to Jesus prayer to be with him where he is. For those that are left behind, we are left with a void in our lives. How do we fill that void? It is a process of dealing...more

Grief is never an easy stage in life, but it is surely a reality in life, as Christians we have a responsibility to grieve to the Glory of God, in this book Pastor Martin has given us the Biblical basis to do just that.

Having already experienced the loss of a loved one in Christ, I believe this book has truly prepared me much more for a similar experience.

A few of the commentators have said “Whether you are a pastor or counsellor, one who is experiencing the pangs of grief, or a member of the ch...more

"Grieving, Hope and Solace" is a very helpful book dealing with the difficult subject of death. This book approaches the subject from a Biblical viewpoint and is therefore saturated with Scripture and what the Scriptures teach about death and the hope that is in Christ Jesus.

The book contains twelve chapters that are divided up into four parts. Part I lays some foundational perspectives and principles. These include the Biblical teaching that death is unnatural, that the separation of the soul f...more

The author of this book has experienced the loss of a loved one, his wife. He writes to help the believer know what the scripture teaches about death and what happens to those who die. He does not deal with all the various superstitious ideas people have; he simply deals compassionately with what the scripture teaches and draws all of his conclusions from the pages of the Bible. He summarizes well and has a short chapter at the end addressing the non-believer who may be reading the book.

Speaking from deeply personal experience, Martin recounts the death of his long-time wife and the grieving process that followed. This booklet is culled from sermons Martin delivered to his own church in the weeks after his wife’s passing. He deftly expounds Scripture’s teaching about life beyond this life. Though surface-level, this is a helpful resource all Christians—not just for those who will lose a loved one, but for those called to comfort them as well.

I read this book after my twin brother died suddenly aged 28.And found it to be a real blessing. Albert N Martin writes from experiance on how he found hope and solace in God through reading Gods word. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to know what happens to a beliver when they die, especially to thoes who are grieving.

I thought the first half of the book was excellent, a clear, concise, and biblical account of the nature of death and grieving. The author's own struggle with the loss of his wife also made the read authentic. The second half of the book was good as well, but at times it felt overly spiritualized. The author has a decidedly two-kingdom feel to his writing.

This is a great book on exactly what the title says. It gave me a new perspective on what our focus should be. Recommended for anyone who's lost a loved one who knew Christ as Savior!

Do all things to the glory of God. Yes, even in the way we mourn and grieve, we can bring glory to Him and thus find hope and solace.
Paul
Deals with the topic in a logical and thoroughly Biblical way. Most usefully, it emphasizes how blessed it is to 'die in the Lord'. A helpful resource to remind us on how to bring glory to God even when grieving.

For over forty years, Pastor Albert N. Martin faithfully served the Lord and His people as an elder of Trinity Baptist Church of Montville, New Jersey. Due to increasing and persistent health problems, he stepped down as one of their pastors, and in June, 2008, Pastor Martin and his wife, Dorothy, relocated to Michigan, where they are seeking the Lord's will regarding future ministry.
