ALBANIA. I had a difficult time finding a work of fiction set in Albania for my self-imposed challenge to read a book that takes place in every country of the world. I really wanted to read something by Ismail Kadare, the literary darling of Albania and possible recipient of a Pulitzer, but the local library didn't have a single one of his books. I moved to Albania this summer to teach, and on the boat ride over (yes, really) I read this book. It was interesting enough, but was written in a disorganized way. Honestly, the main reasons it was even interesting at all were that a) I was moving to Albania and b) the main character takes a boat to America, the opposite of the journey I was making.

If you want to read a book about Albania or Albanians, I suppose you'd like it. I don't think I would have finished it otherwise.
