I just keep saying goodbye to one series after another this month. It’s oddly disconcerting. I’m starting to feel like some sort of book undertaker. To be honest, the Sabina Kane series was never among my all-time favorites like Newsflesh or Sirantha Jax, but I still had a lot of fun with it, especially Green-Eyed Demon.

Blue-Blooded Vamp was all action, with a few delicious, swoon-worthy moments and a long sort-of-epilogue that was equal parts cute and annoying. But I’ll get to that later. Blue-Blooded Vamp was all action, with a few delicious, swoon-worthy moments and a long sort-of-epilogue that was equal parts cute and annoying. But I’ll get to that later. I should probably tell you what the book is about first.

Cain, the father of all vampires, is still determined to destroy everything Sabina Kane cares about, but even more, he’s dead set on kidnapping his love Lilith from Irkalla and bringing her to the mortal realm, a move that means certain death for all dark races. Sabina, driven by her need for revenge, embarks on a mission to find a mage who calls himself Abel in the hope that he’ll help her discover a way to kill Cain without killing everyone she cares about in the process. It is strange for Sabina to have that many beings she cares about. Until she met Adam and discovered that she has a twin sister, she never really got close to anyone. But the last year of her life changed it all and now she has people to protect and people to avenge. Not necessarily in that order.

My lack of emotional connection with Sabina was never more painfully evident than while I was reading this book. I just never fully warmed up to her, and the only reason this series worked for me is the fantastic set of secondary characters. Luckily, there was always someone I actually cared about with Sabina, so that in the end, all the important moments had some weight for me. If it was a Big Thing between her and Adam, I was happy for Adam. If it was a lovely friendship moment between her and Giguhl, I was usually laughing too hard at something Giguhl said to notice Sabina was even there.

To go back to the annoying part of the ending, it would seem that there is such a thing as TOO happily ever after. Gah. Who knew? Not only did Jaye Wells tie up all the loose ends, she tied them up a bit too neatly, in my opinion. Did I hope for a happy ending after five books? Of course. Did I expect it? Sure. But I just can’t get over how fairytale-ish it felt! I almost wished for someone to die horribly and permanently, just to spice things up a little bit.

While it’s always sad to say goodbye to a series, I must say I think it’s the perfect time for it to end. These five books have been fun, but I have a feeling Jaye Wells’ next project will be amazing.

Sabina gets to have her time with the father of the dark races after all, in this final installment.

We find her and the entourage in Rome looking for Abel. I think most of the readers have guessed who Abel really is. Well, apart from that, he is arrogant and very difficult to reason with.

Jaye Wells delivers in the epic conclusion to the Sabina Kane series. The only way Sabina and her awesome demon sidekick, Gighul and sexy hexy boy toy, Adam Lazarus can defeat Cain is by finding Abel. However, it seems that locating Abel is a task in of itself. So Sabina is en route to Italy where Rome holds the solution to all her problems. There, she runs into people whom she never expected to encounter.

As the final book in the Sabina Kane series, I was expecting something epic, something that would give readers that one last shebang before we say goodbye to Sabina and the gang. Wells delivers a perfectly paced story with that that refreshing bite of humor that I can never resist. I plowed through this book even though I knew it was the last one. I meant to savor it, but those plans were promptly thrown out the window once I opened this book and read the first line. There’s just this ease to which Wells writes. It’s effortless, fast-paced and a guaranteed a good time.

Sabina Kane was grown throughout the entire series. She’s gone from a being a kickass tough girl with a chip on her shoulder to a daughter, a lover and a friend. Finally, the biggest, baddest girl on the block has opened her heart and allowed people to touch her life in a way that leaves her vulnerable. Sabina still has her trigger-happy temper, but now she has people in her life like Adam and Gighul to tell her to slow her roll.

I also have to mention Wells stellar plotting. Everyone who has made a significant appearance in the series is back in some way. It was nice to be able to recall those moments as we met them again in this last book. Wells does a great job of closing out a great series that has captured many hearts and spellbound readers of urban fantasy. It’s sad to say goodbye to the snarky Sabina, the horny demon and the sex hexy, but as the saying goes, “All good things come to an end.” I just hope Wells has more up her sleeve to tide us over. I want more pitch-forked penises!

This is the second series that I say goodbye to this year (the first one is Mark Del Franco's Connor Grey series), and personally, I think Ms. Wells definitely keep the best book for last.

It only takes first few chapters for me to get hooked, especially when I find out the real identity of "Abel", which is probably one of the best kept secret for five books ((view spoiler)). I postpone my other current reading and consume the whole 467 pages of it. It has action, twists, sacrifice, love, and well execution of the concept of "good guys win, y'all!".

While I still cannot say that Sabina is one of my favorite heroines -- she is too stubborn sometimes, and definitely need some sort of anger management class -- but I do think for the course of this book, Sabina learns the great deal what it is to be part of a family. Also the lesson of being a true leader.

Sabina's relationship is Adam is rock solid (no stupid thing like in book #4) and in here I clearly believe that Adam finally accepts Sabina for who she is. The whole mixed-blood thing. While hers with Giguhl is the one that I love the most (even more than her with Adam). Giguhl has stolen my heart since his first appearance. He's probably the only constant (and first true friend of Sabina) in Sabina's life since their first meeting. There is one scene ((view spoiler) that manages to choke my heart because their friendship is such a treasure.

I love the change of scenery of being in Italy. I love the description of the areas of the Immortal Realm. I think the final battle in Irkalla is awesome. The idea of the Chosen is smart. And of course, the wonderful, happy, festive celebration in the epilogue FITS what a story in a final book should be. PERFECT way to finish a series and I'm completely and wholeheartedly feel satisfied.

I cannot wait to read what other stories Ms. Wells will bring us readers. Hopefully she will present another amazing one ^_^(less)

My Take
If I gotta be stuck with this OCD disorder that requires me to finish books and train-wreck series, it's a good thing that I read fast. I wasn't impressed when I started this series, but I did like Adam and Giggles. And I was curious as to where Wells would take this world she created. Unfortunately, it's overly dramatic and cliched.

The conclusion to Jaye Wells’ Sabina Kane urban fantasy series; BLUE BLOODED VAMP was in a word; epic. This book was jam packed with complex characters, thrilling action, and startling realizations about Sabina and her heritage. I think just about every character from past books got at least a mention if not a small cameo which was nice as it felt like a kind of final curtain call. Okay, I love when a good series comes to a definitely close - no loopholes, and story-lines get wrapped up tightly. This one brings to the fun and whimsical Sabina Kane series to an action-packed and flirtatious end. I was not disappointed with any of the results. Although to be a bit critical, having read so many good series along the way, I was able to predict and figure out how events were going to unfold well before the climax of the book.

EVERYONE makes an appearance in this novel. Whether we see them or talk about them in memory, they are here. It was bliss to be reminded of the people we lost along the way, and visit the memories again. To see where Sabina came from and where she's come to. Sabina has to do a few things that we would have never have thought her to think about a few six months ago where this started. Sabina and Adam have some issues to work through in this book, and find a way.

I was happy, mad, and cried with these characters. Then sad that it ended. But Jaye didn't pull any punches in the end. She laid it all out for us, rough to our hearts as it might be.

Jaye had to have known exactly where she was going from the first words of the first book, Red-Headed Stepchild. Everything we (and Sabina) experienced along the way leads to this finale. Whether to wear on us and worry us or to help us to the answers. The pieces fit together perfectly. This series all comes together as one and closes completely. BRAVO JAYE!!(less)

Superb Ending to a Stupendous Series!

I strongly recommend you read this series in order (Red-Headed Stepchild, “Vampsploitation” - Vampire Romance 2 (anthology), Mage in Black, Green Eyed Demon, “Violet Tendencies” - (Sabina Short), Silver-Tongued Devil) prior to reading this book

Sabina is out to kill the one man who cannot be killed - Cain. Unfortunately for Sabina, she is also being hunted by Cain because he wants to use her to gain access to Lilith. The God Asmodeus also has chosen this time to demand that Sabina repay a blood debt, thus throwing a wrench into her hunting plans. Sabina must travel to Rome to find the mage Abel in the hope that the mage who once trapped Cain, will know how to neutralize him again.

As a rule, Sabina always doubted that she was the chosen one and when she does decide to take on this label, it is only to further the fight against Cain. With everything she has done, she finds it hard to believe that she above all people is capable of bringing peace to he supernatural species. With Giguhl and Adam by her side, the clock is quickly counting down to the moment where not believing in her destiny, could mean the death of all she loves.

Okay, from the start of this book, there was never any doubt that Sabina was indeed the chosen one, and so it was only a mater of how Wells would tie up the loose threads. What made this compelling is how they all came together moving swiftly from revelation to revelation. I particularly loved that Wells took great care in making it clear that what Cane was doing was unacceptable and that Lilith was well within her rights to leave a man who stalked her and demanded that she love him. This kind of behaviour is too often cast as romantic in urban fantasy.

I think that Wells is an excellent writer and the Sabina Kane series is particularly imaginative; however, once again it is filled with social justice fails.

In the last few books, Brooks / Pussy Willow was a huge problem. In Blue Blooded Vamp, Brooks has cast aside the identity of Pussy Willow and now completely identifies as male. Brooks explains the transition back in the following:

"Zen helped me realize that I was hiding my pain behind all the makeup and the fabulous accessories She encouraged me to let my Brooks flag fly." He executed a Z - shaped snap through the air. (page 25)

Brooks is still very much a caricature. There are certainly gay men who are camp, the problem is that when gay men are represented in the media, this is overwhelmingly how they are portrayed. I can understand wanting to hide behind one's pain but there was still the appropriation of a trans identity. This really plays on the myth of the deceptive trans woman and if Pussy Willow is indeed a character he put on, then why did we not see a more significant change when he returned to being Brooks? Wells rushed through this entire transition and didn't develop this to the point where it could be read as unproblematic. It further didn't help that the characters surrounding him spoke of wanting to do violence to him in his alternate identity, which parallels too closely to how people who transgress the gender binary are treated. Now that he is Brooks again, suddenly everyone is accepting and loving towards him - he has appropriately conformed.

i love these characters, i didn't always agree with the turn of events, but i did enjoy the ride. For those who don't know this is the book where we must bid farewell to our friends, as their story is finished.

4 plus stars - Still reeling over the events from the last book, Sabrina doesn't have time to stop and give with big baddie Cain on the loose, and even though everyone has been saying that she's the Chosen she's going to need a lot of help to stop the father of the vampires in plot to get to Lilith - his success means the end of the Night Kind. So it's off to Rome with Adam, her mancy(mage) lover, and demon minion Giguhl to find the Abel, the only being who knows how to stop Caine.

I really enjoyed this entire series by Jaye Wells and hate to see it end. But I respect Jaye for deciding to finish it up and move on. Sabina is the bad girl gone right. Like all of us she is just trying to find out where she fits in this big puzzle called life. Sure she says a lot of dumb things but her heart is always, almost, in the right place. She has become very considerate of her friends feelings, usually. In short Sabina has grown into both the mage and vampire sides of herself.

Sabina has had a tough, and wonderful, couple of years. Sabina starts out believing that she is only good enough to do her grandmother's bidding and that eventually her grandmother will love her and accept her. She learns about her sister, she falls in love, she gets a friend, loses a friend. She even gets a pet cat, sort of if cats are demonic (actually that is entirely believable).

Jaye spent quite a bit of time resolving all the story lines in this final installment. It is well written and consistent throughout in character, plot and world continuity. Turns out that Sabina may not necessarily have taken after the vampire side of the family with her difficult personality. And some of the ends may tie up a little too neatly. But, I worried throughout the book which characters would be killed off and which would advance happily into the future. I thought Sabina would lose it if her guy, Adam, or her familiar Giguhl were lost so soon after Maisie.

To the end Sabina doesn't always see the way around an issue. That is what her friends are for. If you have enjoyed the series this is a MUST READ. It is not a place to start reading and is not a stand alone. There is too much backstory. The backstory provided though is well done. I really like that her relationship with Adam seems solid; there are some romantic scenes, but nothing kinky.

If you like strong heroines with rough edges this is a great series for you. I really enjoyed it and the last volume was also a good read, a good time and a great way to end Sabina's series. Bye Sabina! (less)

(view spoiler)[The first thing that annoyed me about this book is how all of a sudden Sabina is a supernatural skeptic. Which is hilarious for a magepire, that talks to Gods, with a demon for a bestie. My favorite example: Not being able to move when you wake up from a dream where you were shooting the breeze with a God, not an evil hag sitting on your chest, that would be ridiculous. No it's a brain delay. Why is Sabina able to suspend disbelief for some things, but other things are just silly.

Adam still judging her to the end. He finally get's over giving her blood, yay for him. But he still automatically expects the worst from her. Even after all they have been through.

And of course the big finale. Every trial was the same. Sabina has to give something up and it hurts. First it's a possession, and emotional pain. Then it's her magic and physical pain. Then its being a vampire, and a whole lot of physical pain. Really?!?!?!?! Couldn't we mix it up a little? Finally she makes it to Lilith and she is supposed to give up her life. Ugh.

Cain is bad ass. He invented murder. He has been alive since the dawn of man. He has Lilith, a deity whose power astounds and who's married to the freaking devil, quaking in her boots because he can just walk in and take her. Sabina has to give up everything that she is and Maisie has to die so they can combine and become the chosen, there is this huge magic moment when they combine. And all they do to stop him is stick out their hand and say a couple of magic words. WHAT?!?!?!?! No epic battle? No fight to the near death? We waited five books for this and all we get is hocus, pocus and Cain turns to ash. The fight with Horus was more eventful.

And finally Sabina doesn't actual don't lose anyone. Because Maisie rules the underworld and Sabina rules the earth they still have to confer, so she can see her dead loved one's at will. Are you freaking kidding me? The whole reason we fear death is because we worry if we will ever see our loved one's again. Sabina and the other's already had the advantage of knowing exactly where her people go. That alone should make death way less scary. So how does anyone learn lesson's or evolve. Life and time is not valuable if you enevr have to worry about loss. In the end there really was no risk for her. She ended up way better off in the end. Superb, awesome, outstanding, thrilling...I could go on and on, but you get my drift. Sabina, Adam and Giguhl are hunting down Cain, the father of the vampire race who is determined to bring Lilith back to Earth, which would kill all the dark races – mage, vampire, fae and demon. Their mission is a very personal one and Sabina particularly wants revenge. She has that forceful spark that we fell for in the first place, but this time she has a team that she loves. And the fact that they share the mission and fight together is a major step for Sabina, demonstrating just how far she has come since the beginning. Adam and Sabina are brought closer together here having been tested in the past and the fact that Adam could ‘read’ Sabina so well was a great touch. While she may have grown, Sabina still has a temper and tends to speak first and think second. Giguhl still has a smart mouth and some of the best lines, while mage Adam is just a dreamy guy who completely accepts Sabina for who she is now. I want to be part of their group!

Once again the pace is fast paced with solid action mixed with emotional depth. New characters are introduced with plenty of cameos from old friends giving a great range of the dark races world. The stakes are much higher than they have ever been – and yet much more personal than ever before. There is a real sense of perspective with plenty of locations both in the real world and the underworld for our characters to explore.

This really is a series where each books has built on the previous one to develop this world without repeating anything and one I would recommend to all UF fans. I confess it took until the third book for me to completely love it, but now it is one of my favourites.

This is the fifth and final book in the Sabina Kane series (after Red-Headed Stepchild, The Mage in Black, Green-Eyed Demon and Silver-Tongued Devil) which is probably one of my favourite urban fantasy series of all time. As much as I've loved Sabina's adventures I have to give kudos to the author for having the confidence to end the series when she intended, rather than let it drag on. As I've mentioned in my previous reviews, this is a series that really should be read in order from the beginning.

The book picks up shortly after the dramatic heart-wrenching end to the previous book which not only left me reeling as a reader, but left all the characters in the same state. Sabina is now on the hunt for Cain and this leads her to Rome, with a brief stopover in New Orleans first. This means that the story manages to give page time to previously featured characters (like Zenobia, Georgia and Brooks) without getting weighed down. The pacing is brisk and the storyline is action-packed and full of twists and turns with tons of long buried secrets being revealed.

Sabina is desperate not only for revenge but also to find a place of peace within herself. Adam and Giguhl accompany her to Italy, but they too are grieving and so there is an almost desperate feel to their quest (as Giguhl calls it). I was happy to see despite the darkness Giguhl managed to keep his sense of humour and there are some genuinely funny scenes that lift the narrative. The search for Abel, and Abel as a character, are fascinating and kept me glued to the page as every twist was revealed.

The storyline works really well to conclude the series, and the epilogue set eight months later (a year after the series started) rounds things out nicely. Some may say it tied things up too well, but I like that it touched on every character I've grown to know and love and gives an idea how they ended up. These aren't perfect Hollywood endings, and I love the touch of reality here.

Sabina's "Things to do:" list makes its final appearance, and is a bit more abrupt than previously although no less teaser-y.
1. Get to Rome
2. Find Abel
3. Kill Cain

All in all this was a fantastic end to an outstanding series.

Although I was sad to see this series come to a close, I found the ending to be very satisfying. I really loved the world created and the refreshing twist on vampire lore, with the reaction to the forbidden fruit and the trademark red hair; I thought it was ingenious. But a powerful mage that goes by the name of Abel may just know of another way to defeat Cain. Problem is, he has his own agenda and secrets that will forever change everything Sabina has ever known. It will be a fight to the bitter end with everything and everyone on the line.

As I think back to where this series started, I cannot believe just how much Sabina has grown. Don't get me wrong, she is still the same Sabina at the core, stubborn, obstinate, and one heck of a fighter. But the past few months have really shown her so much that she been able to finally let go of a great deal of her anger to become who she was really meant to be. In fact, she's grown so much that everyone else is finally taking her seriously and giving her the respect she deserves. But, more importantly she has finally started to accept herself, both the good and the bad, and she is so much stronger for it. In addition to her own self-acceptance, she has also learned some very hard lessons, including how to trust others and knowing when to ask and accept help.

Everything in this series to date has been leading up to the final showdown with Cain. I especially enjoyed the pacing of the build up to that final battle and then the aftermath was handled. In many final installments, 3/4 of the story will preparation leading into an extremely intense ending that a lot of time ends rather abruptly, not leaving the reader much of a cool down before everything is said and done. In Blue-Blooded Vamp, the pacing was much more even as the action was incredibly intense throughout the entire book rather than just the ending. Then one the final showdown was completed, the story continued for a while in resolution, giving that much needed break from the action while still continuing on. What was even better was the inclusion of the epilogue. I am a huge huge fan of these, as I love the chance to see where the characters end up in the future after their troubles are finally behind them. I'm a sucker for a happy ever after, no matter what form it takes.

I got everything I could have wanted and more from this final installment in the Sabina Kane series. Everything about it just screams epic and intense making for a seriously thrilling roller coaster of a read. Yet in between the almost non-stop action there are still stolen moments of emotion that really pulled my heartstrings, and only dragged me further into the story. Blue-Blooded Vamp could not possibly have been any more perfect of a conclusion to the amazing Sabina Kane series.(less)

I'm not used to finishing a book series, so this book was a little bit of a milestone for me. Aside from the Harry Potter novels, I've never slogged my way through more than a trilogy. Blue-Blooded Vamp picks up almost immediately after the end of the fourth book, Silver-Tongued Devil, in the wake of Sabina's sister's murder at the hands of Cain. Sabina wants revenge against Cain--yes, the cursed brother of Abel--and it turns out Cain is on the hunt for Sabina, too. Sabina has been able to defeat her malevolent grandmother, killing the dominae of the vampire world, but Cain is still out to use her as a way of resurrecting Lilith. And that's bad news for everyone.

While Sabina has amassed quite a few allies in the previous four books, things get boiled down to the original two sidekicks of sorts: her demonic minion, Giguhl, and her mage lover, Adam. The three of them head for New Orleans in order to find a way to get at Cain, tying up some loose ends along the way, and then it's off to a brand new location for the series. Italy. There she has to join forces with the elusive Abel--no, not that Abel--and find out how to finally kill Cain without suffering the fabled consequences. Given the iconic American locales in the series, like New York City, Los Angeles, and New Orleans, Italy was a bit of a curveball. It works well though, giving an added sense of history and significance.

Jaye adds smatterings of backstory for those silly enough to read this book without having read the others in the series, and I suppose it would be enough to keep an uninitiated reader up to speed, but to really appreciate the big finale of a series like this, you really need to be caught up with what has happened so far. Part of the reason comes in the form of cameo appearances from characters that popped up here and there in previous books. In fact, Blue-Blooded Vamp is almost like a yearbook of sorts for the series, as much as it is the capper.

There wasn't a great deal of lingering on the Italian setting, and I didn't really feel immersed in that, but Italy is really just a throughway for Sabina and the others to meet the all-important Abel and go on her final quest to defeat Cain. Abel, by the way, isn't the biblical Abel, but a man who is the sworn enemy of Cain and adopted the name in his own quest to bring the original murderer down.

The middle of the book feels like it is running in circles for a bit, despite the relentless action, due in part because of a brand new revelation concerning Sabina's past that rears up. And for a little while I was wondering if Sabina was more concerned with drudging up old skeletons than dealing with the big bad she had swore revenge on. All in all, however, the book provided enough excitement and twists to keep me entertained the whole way through, and I thought it was a very good end to one of my favorite urban fantasy characters.

I'm not sure what Jaye Wells is cooking up for her next project, but if she can present a hero half as fun to read as Sabina Kane, then I'm on board.(less)

I love this series. It all started when I received the first book as a gift from a fellow book blogger. I put it in my to be read pile and then another blogger friend started a read along on the book. Next thing you know I am completely hooked on this series and sat around waiting for the books to come out so I could devour the next one.

Sabina and company, adam and giguhl and the exiled mage, are off to italy to attempt to find Cain. Cain was supposed to be locked up but somehow got out and killed Sabina's sisters and many others. The key to getting Cain is Abel, the man who originally locked him up. But Abel is a hard man to find and is much more than he seems. But to Cain Sabina is easy to find and they must constantly dodge him.

While not a perfect series - seriously at some points, I wanted to smack Sabina - overall, the series got better as it went on and I found myself enjoying it. Blue-Blooded Vamp concludes the series and does so in a pretty satisfactory manner. I liked the ultimate answer to who is the "Chosen" one and I felt it wrapped up well.

This accomplished what so many series finales I've read in the last few years haven't- gave it a friggin ending! I've been frustrated that so many great series have ended with maddeningly open ended books. If I'm going to say goodbye to characters and their stories, I'd like some finality, not a bunch of 'but what about this's and 'does x ever happen to y's?

If you have not read this series you need to do so…immediately. Blue-Blooded Vamp concluded the Sabine Kane series with a slam-fucking-dunk. The story was fast-paced, beautiful and unexpected. Sabina’s journey has been a character building masterpiece. Jaye Wells doesn’t fall short on this final installment. It was executed perfectly and kept me on my toes.
