Debut

Three years after his wife died, Cameron McCormac is still messed up inside. Losing both his parents when he was a child, and his wife, he's afraid of loving and losing again. Instead, Cameron has directed all his energy as CEO into Lyrique Recordings. Penelope (Peppa) Grant has never crossed paths with her boss before.

When the entertainer for the employees' children's Christmas party opts out due to food poisoning, Peppa hires a fairy costume and takes over. Unfortunately in all...more

How I got this book: NetGalley

I was in the mood for a good quick romance, and was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this debut from Johns’.

Peppa really doesn’t want to tell her boss that she side-swiped his car while dressed as a fairy at the Holiday party, but she knows that she can’t NOT tell him. When Cameron tells her that he wants her to come as his date to another Chr...more

Peppa works for Cameron as a voice talent. She reads audio books which I thought was an interesting choice. When she fills in as children's entertainment at the office party, Cameron notices her unaware that she works for him while Peppa thinks he knows who she is. As repayment for denting his Lamborghini he takes her to his family's holiday party while she is still in her elf costume. Cameron wants someone to go with him so he'll appear to be moving on from his wife's death and so his family wi...more

Even thought this book was slightly predictable, I LOVED It! I loved Cameron, I loved Peppa, and I just loved One Perfect Night! Rachael Johns definitely hits the nail on the head with this one.

Cameron and Peppa decide to continue a One Night Stand affair, even after he finds out that she actually works for his company. He is tempted by her amazing curves, but also her smile. Peppa had been though a bad break up and Cameron had lost his wife,...more

OMG!! THAT was a super sexy read. One of my favorite plots beside friends to lovers is the "I need a girlfriend/wife for (insert reason)" They just really work for me. I just love to see all the funny, crazy things that happen along the way to them discovering they can't live without the other :)

And this one worked for me....and then some :) Everything for me was great. I loved the characters, the plot and the sex....yeah :) Now I just nee...more

Peppa is a bubbly likeable character who is in a bit of a pickle. She has managed to side-swipe her boss’s vintage Lamborghini as she arrives at work to do a favour, by dressing up as a fairy for the firm’s annual party for children. She knows she has to confess and when she does, her boss lets her off of having to pay for the damage, as long as she accompanies him to his family’s Christmas get together as his ‘girlfriend’. The chemistry is there from the beginning and Peppa has pretty much fall...more

The hero Cameron first sees the heroine Peppa when she is the children's entertainer during the office Christmas party. When he approaches her he has not idea she is actually one of his employees, but he is very intrigued by her. Although he is not pleased when she admits to accidentally causing damage to his car, but spotting his moment to get to know her further he asks her to go with him to his family's party. Peppa is very, very attracted to Cameron, but is still getting over a diff...more

One Perfect Night by Rachel Johns is an office romance. In real life, fishing off the company pier is generally considered a bad idea. In this story, it not only turns out to be good advice for the participants, but it is great fun to read.

Peppa Grant usually works as voice talent at Lyrique Recordings. But for the company's Christmas party, she had agreed to entertain the staff's children, dressed in a fairy costume, after the regular entertainment called in...more

One Perfect Night was a really sweet and fast paced story. I read it in one sitting and loved every minute of it. I love getting lost inside a good contemporary romance, and I did just that with this book. It’s super funny and emotional at times. I truly enjoyed getting to know Cameron and Peppa and watch their love blossom. The way they meet was hilarious and the whole encounter had me laughing out loud.

Both Cameron and Peppa, have had a bad experience with their previous relationship. So when...more

i really enjoyed reading this book. A romance book with a great ending that will make the reader teared up. Just like i am when i read it. The story started with Peppa who in exchange to compensate her boss' for her wrong doing, agreed to play as his companion to attend his family function. Cameron, who is desperately trying to avoid another scheme of matchmaking from his family is going all out to find someone doubling as his girlfriend. Attractions between them sparks and both of them seems no...more

ONE PERFECT NIGHT by Rachael Johns is a Carina Press release for December 2011.

Peppa Grant had not healed after a messy break-up and was not looking for a relationship. After swiping into her boss’s car, she was just looking at owning up and apologizing for it.

Cameron McCormac found he couldn’t take his eyes off the children’s entertainer at his company’s family Christmas party. Then he walked over to introduce himself, little knowing that Peppa was employed by his company. But Peppa wanted to...more

This is another one of those books that's been sitting on my iPad just waiting to be read.

Who would have thought that swerving to miss a roaming cat would cause a grand love story? But in the case of Peppa (Penelope) and Cameron McCormac it did just that.

Peppa was nursing a broken heart, after her fiance leaves her for another woman who was pregnant with his child. The last thing she needed was to get involved the the ultra sexy CEO, nicknamed Mr. McSexy. But after confessing that she sideswipe...more

This book from the beginning to the end is what I would say a true romance novel worth reading. The two main characters are both dealing with loss, pain and hurt, Cameron is dealing with the loss of his wife and is very scared to open up his heart again. Peppa has been dumped by her ex-fiancé who pretty much runs out and gets married to a co-worker instantly. If that wasn’t enough Peppa is also trying to deal with the loss of a baby finding out she may never be able to have children.

So first we...more

When the entertainment for her work's children's Christmas Eve party cancels, Peppa quickly runs out and rents a fairy costume. On her way back she accidentally side swipes the CEO's car in the parking lot. When she approaches Cameron to fess up to what happened, he doesn't seem at all worried about the car. Instead he is more interested in taking her to his Aunt's Christmas Eve party.

Cameron dislikes holidays and being around the family. They make him uncomfortable and remind him of the things...more

This was a delightful short novel by an author I’d never read before. I’ve really enjoyed reading the Australian authors published by Carina Press, and Rachel Johns was no exception. In fact, I was a bit surprised that this book was published by Carina Press, rather than being published in print as a category romance by one of the Harlequin lines (Carina Press is owned by Harlequin). One Perfect Night has several of the hallmark tro...more

Penelope 'Peppa' Grant certainly does not expect that the little accident she had before the company Christmas party will turn upside down her life. She's slowly and painfully recovering from the breakup with her ex boyfriend and her plans didn't include any man for a long time.

Cameron McCormac has no desire to attend the Christmas party of his company, nor even the one thrown by his aunt. Holidays are not his favorite time of the year... The encounter with a sexy fairy, however, will make him...more

I was given a review copy of this book by NetGalley. I enjoyed this story about Peppa and Cameron. At the start of the book Peppa is helping out as a children's entertainer at the office Christmas party dressed as a fairy. Cameron is CEO of the company and drops in on the party. Feeling an instant attraction to Peppa, when she confesses that she has accidently dented his car he uses the opportunity to ask her to pose as his girlfriend at a family party to try and stop his relatives matchmaking....more

Less Than Perfect for Me
New company CEO Cameron McCormac has had little in the way of holiday spirit since his wife died a few years ago. As time goes on, he only gets more and more curmudgeonly while his family pushes harder and harder for him to jump back into a relationship. He had all the love he ever needed or wanted once, he was never going down that painful road again. Showing up at the company Christmas party, though, was required, so he planned to tough it out until the next leg of his...more

Despite the far-fetched premise, One Perfect Night starts off at a good pace, with, I was relieved to discover, an unobtrusive Aussie voice. Unfortunately, the plot plateaus halfway through the book. The employee/boss relationship between the main characters is touched on but doesn’t provide enough tension, so the conflicts between the characters are largely external. While it’s great to see a hero who’s had a healthy relationship and, more importantly, acts li...more

A story with varying levels of intensity yet the emotional pull is significant. Two people who have rather jaded views of life and loving, one has been hurt and discarded by a co-worker who was, for a time, a fiance, and a CEO who plays the field because of significant loss and pain from the past. The impasse between these two people is somewhat protracted and a long-term relationship doesn't appear to be either possible of desirable. Yet there is the kind of tension that makes a reader wonder w...more

Cameron McCormac doesn't quite know what to make of the bedazzling fairy entertaining the children at his Christmas party, his thoughts are quite naughty when it comes to the woman whose sensuality seems to call out to him.

One Perfect Night by Rachael Johns is a Cinderella story, but one where the heroine is dealing with the destruction of the life she’d dreamed of.

It’s hard to believe this is Rachael’s debut book. There is a perfect balance between heartbreaking issues and escapism (hot boss and modern, sexy Cinderella). I particularly liked the delicate portrayal of falling in love — that wanting to be with the beloved. One minor sidenote: I’ve never read of any other heroine with the job of reading-recording au...more

My Review:
When I first started this book, I thought it was going to be a light, fun read about a one-night stand, but this book is so much more than that. Penelope and Cameron are so much more than two people that have gotten caught up in a bit of passion. They have each been left seriously wounded by past relationships. And while Penelope is still open to the possibilities, she is definitely trying to guard her heart. Cameron, on the other hand, has no plans to ever open his heart again. But wh...more

I loved this book from start to finish! It is romantic, Christmassy and has great emotional depth. You could understand where both of the main characters were coming from and could feel their pain. This book is well written with the characters properly developed. It has an engaging story line that kept me completely absorbed. After reading ‘One Perfect Night’ by Rachael Johns and enjoying it so much I was surprised to discover that it is her debut book. I hope she has more books in the pipeline...more

If you ask me to describe this book, I’ll say that it’s sexy, hot and yet not trashy. I like how the author describe the sizzling relationship between the characters and I like how sexual tension slowly builds up between the two.

A job well done by the author, I must say, and I certainly wouldn’t mind reading this book anytime soon. I rate this book 3 out of 5 stars.

This just didnt live up to the blurb. I was so excited to get it but none of it clicked for me. The h was a little too strong for me but a lot of readers will love her backbone (I dont want a doormat but I wish she would have been more emotional) The H I didnt click with either.. The writing style was too romantic comedy/chick-lit/women's lit for me.
