Il primo 40k multimediale. Belle le immagini, le ho riviste a colori sul PC.
Come ci tramandano gli antichi Egizi e ci ricorda lo stesso Doctorow, il Faraone si fa imbalsamare per potersi presentare fisicamente integro al rito della pesatura del cuore, come se tutto ciò che ha fatto in vita come capo assoluto e dio del suo popolo gravasse in quest'organo.

Oh, my , YES. Doctorow extrapolates from present trends to give the reader a future where tremendous wealth and limitless power reside in the hands of a select group of individuals, who are, essentially, eternal. Our hero, Leon, works for a company who's only goal is to come up with something to sell to one of those wealthy people in a vat.
It's a plausible future, not quite dystopian, richly detailed. Doctorow tells his story with warmth, and humor that reminds me of Vonnegut. Without going into...more

Il "chicken little" della celebre fiaba gridava "il mondo sta per cadere", seminando il terrore e cambiando i comportamenti di tutti gli animali della fattoria. Le multinazionali, fanno più o meno lo stesso: il cielo cade spesso anche per noi (sars, influenza aviara, tanto per fare un paio di esempi) che siamo le pedine di giochi che si disputano su campi grandi come il globo.

My first Cory Doctorow-book (I shamefully have to admit), but most certainly not my last. I have been meaning to read Little Brother for a while and will soon, now that I know how good Doctorow is.
With this book, I like his development of the central idea, the vivid scenery, the smooth and fluent style he writes in and how tight the story is. Having read it on my Kindle, I don't really know how long it is, but I assume it's somewhere between a novelette and a novella - a fairly short read in oth...more

Un'unica domanda a fine lettura: perché non mi ha convinta?
Non lo so. Gli elementi ci sono tutti, dall'idea di base allo sviluppo e allo stile perfettamente in linea con il genere. Credo solo che forse, come lettrice che giudica prevalentemente di pancia (perché non sono capace di giudicare anche con criteri più formali, e lo intendo come un mio limite), mi sia mancata una buona dose di stimolo, di coinvolgimento, lasciandomi quindi con una sensazione di un qualcosa troppo calcolato, seppur buon...more

At first, I was thinking that it was a good thing I only paid $0.99 for this one, but the last quarter of the story really snapped it together and delivered a powerful point. Very clever commentary on society.
I thought it was flipping brilliant, it's one of those books you wish didn't end.
