Well, I like it. It gives you a better look on the tributes and the Capitol. There are also some pictures from the movie itself. I'm not going to give it five stars for it's not that good.

My real rating is more 1.5.
If I didn't get a discount because I work in a bookstore, I never would have purchased this.
Essentially it's pretty pictures from the film with some cursory commentary. Anyone that's read the book would know this. Absolutely nothing new.
I would say 1/3 of the book is just pictures of the tributes. Not multiple pictures, but rather the glamour shots for the games, followed up with their name and age. That, to me, screams: let's print off something really quickly to mak More...

A pretty rudimentary taste before the movie comes out.
The tribute medallions are cool, as are the few pictures. It's like a super mini summary of HG #1 right up until Katniss emerges out of the tube into the arena.
If you're looking for a super detailed look into HG, it's not here. As for it being a 'tribute guide', it really is just a head shot of all 24, plus age, height, district of origin, and if their name is mentioned in the book, that as well. If not, no name is given.
I could complain a More...

This book is exactly what you would think from the title. It’s a guide to the Tributes. I was thinking maybe there would be addition content that we didn’t get in the book, but there is not. This would be a good “fan” book for movie-goers and perhaps even a refresher for readers that may not have read the book in a while.
I was hoping that perhaps we would get names for all of the Tributes. I realize that many in the books did not have names, but since this was a TRIBUTE book… I thought it would More...

I absolutley love the Hunger Games, and I think Suzanne Collins is ingenious for creating this worldof pain and passion. I've seen the movie(as all Hunger Game fans hopefully have) and I'm anticipating the next release of Catching Fire. But The Hunger Games Tribute Guide did not do the amazingness of this trilogy justice. To put it as simply as I can, The Tribute Guide did not teach me anything particularly new. I had already come to know characters like Rue and Katniss in the book and had alread More...

This guide gives you a little more in depth into some of the things behind the games. I really wish it had more though, because if you read the Hunger Games this book doesn't give you alot except for pictures. It does tell you about the districts but I wanted it to go into the characters lives a little more, the ones we didn't get a chance to get to know in the book.
I can't figure out if I love Cinna's character or I have a little crush on Lenny himself who plays Cinna. This book lets me get to More...

This might have been interesting if I read it before the movie was released (since it includes images and direct lines from the movie), but then it would have been full of spoilers.
The book looks really nice, but in terms of actual content, seemed like something that was just thrown together for the sake of having something to sell around the movie's release. There is nothing new in the book, and I felt like a kid could have written it after reading the book/watching the movie.

This wasn't what I was hoping for. I had hoped that the book would delve in to the actors playing the tributes. Instead it was more like someone from the Capitol explaining to the reader how the Games worked, as far as the beginnings (reaping, journey to Capitol, re-make center, parade, and training). It was nice to see pictures from the movies--though most I saw in the movie companion guide. And it was nice to see up-close shots of all 24 tributes (even if it wasn't to tell about the actors). If it is a book on the Hunger Games, you can bet I am going to buy it and drool over it. When I received this guide for review, I did not hesitate in jumping right into it. Unfortunately, it was not what I was really expecting.
We get to see wonderful pictures from the upcoming movie, but nothing really new that we haven't seen from released trailers. It is set up in sections from explaining the reason for the Hunger Games all the way to where Katniss enters the arena. It has color photos of each More...

Full movie and book reviews at: A Belle's Tales
I loved this book when I received it in the mail and now, even more so after seeing the movie. What an excellent movie companion guide and insight to the tributes. I may have had a bit of uncertainty with some of the casting (sorry Peeta - I still love you), but I felt most, if not all, of the tributes and supporting cast (Cinna and Caesar = ahhhmazing!) were spot on. I mean, little Rue? What an adorable little girl, and I admit to unab More...

I freaked out when I saw this at the bookstore for around 6 dollars. I just had to pick it up! However, I wasn't totally happy with it. I wish that all the tributes names would have been given and what age they were. I did enjoy all the new pictures and the way the book was set up. It is a nice refresher for someone who hasn't read the book in a while. It seems to be told from the capitols point of view and it stops right when Katniss is being sent to the arena. So there is no new information of More...

With the anticipation of The Hunger Games movie in cinemas soon I wanted to read as much as I could about them. Seeing this in our local book shop I brought it.
The book is full of pictures from the movie; it gives pictorially a great sense for the film. I loved the pictures and can’t wait to see the captures on the big screen. The different sections of the book showed us more not seen before pictures and were brilliant for any Hunger Games Fan.

When I got this book, I was super excited to finally read it. But, after reading it, I felt disappointed. I had expected it to be a full on guide of the tributes and their backstories, with tons of other information about the 74th Hunger Games, but it just gave you their district, their name, their gender, their age, their height, and their weapon. Plus a picture of them on the previous page. That's it. Then on to the other tribute in their district, and so on, and so forth. Although this part o More...

It's been a while ... I got a copy of "The Hunger Games Tribute Guide" to refresh my memory on what happened in the first novel of "The Hunger Games" trilogy before watching the movie. I think calling it the "ultimate" guide is a bit of a stretch. It kind of reminded me of the play bills that you get at a theater. You get a high-level "Capital" overview of the game (from how the tributes are chosen and groomed, up to just before the game starts) and pictures of the movie characters. It's spoiler More...

The pictures were pretty...
I felt like this book could have been so much more if the put just a little more time into it. From what I understand, this was supposed to be like the book to explain what the Hunger Games are and introduce us to the tributes. It did do that...to an extent. There was nothing new in this, it was all information from the books just put together with pictures.
What disappointed me the most was the Meet the Tributes section. Really? Half of them didn't have names or any i More...

I was so excited to read this book! From the moment it was first announced, I was almost crazy with the knowledge that when I read this book, I would finally be able to know more about the tributes, their districts, and the film--all things promised in the description. Sadly, it didn't hold up to its promise.
At most, this book is a lavishly-worded summary of the first few chapters of The Hunger Games. Instead of a tribute guide, we hardly learn anything about the tributes that we haven't already More...

DON'T LET THE LOOK AND FEEL OF THE BOOK MAKE YOU BUY IT!
I don't recommend buying this book at all. I read this in the book store and I was I was so happy I didn't buy it. It's not a bad book, just a waste of money.
It depicts some interesting facts about each tribute. The pictures were nice but I wish there were more because I mean all they showed were portraits and some from the interview (I think). They didn't even give us a poster for pete's sakes.

This isn't going to be a big review because there isn't much to the guide but I wanted to write a little something up since I did read it and loved it. So wanted to write a review and get this book out there for all of you who love The Hunger Games series.

Imagine Caesar Flickerman writing an introductory book on the Hunger Games and its tributes. this book is its result.
The guide starts with an introduction to the Hunger Games' history before moving on to the districts with a brief description of each's specialty (District 1: Luxury. District 2: Masonry......). Then it describes the Reaping process where particularly in District 12, Katniss dramatically takes the place of her sister Primr More...

Overall this is primarily a summary of the events leading up to the start of the games and a look at the tributes - most of which die so early on they are not even given names. Everything in this book you will already know if you have read the series. You know who's good with what weapons, how the reaping played out, who President Snow is, etc. Having read the books and the official movie companion already, this was actually a really boring read. However, if you haven't read the books, this may More...

I hereby pledge to confirm my Hunger Games geekdom by reading (and owning) all of the companion books!
Like most companion books, there isn't too much meat to this one. It's beautifully designed and loaded with gorgeous pictures, but it feels like it's written for a reading level that's below the age of the movie's target audience. The movie was very obviously teen fare--why write companion books geared at middle schoolers?

Just had to read it before the movie comes out tomorrow. I loved the difference in this tribute guide and the actual books because this was written from the perspective of the capital. It's crazy to read how they portray themselves as decent people who are giving the districts everything they could need to be comfortable when really they don't give them anything they need. It's easy enough to see how they think of themselves as superior to the citizens in the different districts even though with More...

This book came out just today(along with The Hunger Games Illustrated Movie Companion, which I also brought) and being The Hunger Games obsessive, freak I am, I had to go get them. The Hunger Games Tribute Guide in one word: Cool. (Yes I know it's a lame attempt for describing such a book) But honestly, it's just plain cool. Its tiny size, the way it's worded, described, and pictures make it feel as if you, yourself, are a Capitol citizen brushing up your tribute knowledge for the upcoming games More...

I am 11 years old and I spent $7 on this book because I thought it was a NOVEL about the tributes, and the games and the other points of view and details that were not in THE HUNGER GAMES. But it's just a 35 page book explaining what the games are, and what the districts do. It's nothing most of us don't know. So now I'm down $7 from my special gift card money on a book that's not even a book. IT'S A BROCHURE! It's a waste of money. It should be free, no scratch that shouldn't even be a book at More...

it was really good :) i was just sad it never whent into the games, it ended at going into the arena via the tube thingys. but there were never any inside the arena parts.
and it was all told as if from a capital perspective because it was kind of off on how they were supposed to be feeling. Example, when they were talking about the reaping they were saying everyone was excited for the chance to represent there district and once Katniss and Peeta were picked how "excited" they were to be able to More...

More of a play–by–play of the movie up to the Games, absolutely nothing new or groundbreaking that any fans of the books would not already know. It would be more suitable for those who only watched the movies and never read the books. The narrative gets really awkward and weird once Katniss gets into the picture where it gets switched constantly. Very unprofessionally done with hardly any editing and seemingly produced just to make some quick buck.

I agree with the majority of the reviews saying don't bother spending your money on this book unless you're a hardcore fan who wants to collect the merch. I got this from the library, and I'm very appreciative I didn't spend any money on it.

Grrrrrrrrrr. For me, this was a MASSIVE dissapointment. I loved the books. I've read the entire Hunger Games Trilogy cover-to-cover three times. But no movie could ever possibly portray and do these books justice. It's sad. Thousands of people read these books just because they made it into a movie. That's no reason. You should read it because you're intregued by the thought of a post-apocalyptic america. A place where one man rules everything. Where teenagers are forced to fight for their lives More...

It's a quick read and it sure got me excited to see the movie! It was a nice refresher of the details of how the Hunger Games work. I felt such irony and sarcasm coming from the pages. But more than half of the tributes didn't even have names. Seriously - this is a TRIBUTE GUIDE. How can they not have names? They need freakin' names. The pictures are nice and I'm totally ready to see the movie now! I also enjoyed the way it was written - like it was a pamphlet that people in the capitol would re More...

This book is a guide to the Hunger Games and the tributes. It's a pretty short read because there isn't a whole lot of text. There are some very cool photos and information about the upcoming movie. My favorite parts were the reminders of what each district is known for (along with the district's logo) and the pictures/info on the tributes. There were very little things I didn't know already in the book, but it makes a nice refresher before the movie and is full of cool photos. I enjoyed looking More...
