I really wanted to, but sadly I wasn't able to finish this one. Right away I saw a lot of similarities with Twilight that really got under my skin. There was also a very intense case of insta-love where the protagonist had "given her heart" to him within 2 days. I'm also big on world building and where werewolves are involved, there has to be a clothes explanation. These ones seemed to change to and from wolf form with their clothes untouched. Do they parade around as wolves dressed in stretched...more

The Good
I am so happy I decided to read more young adult books. Ties to the Blood Moon was an adventure and a half that kept me enthralled from beginning to end. I just wish book two was already out because I can't wait to see what Waldrop has in store for her characters.
After her mother's death, Genevieve moves in with her aunt in Alaska. Everything may seem normal at first, but slowly Gen finds out that not all fairytales ar...more

This book made me never want to stop. I used to say 'I hate reading.' But know I love reading. I'm still trying to save up enoungh money so in an get the rest of the series. I especially love the part when I found out Genevieve was a hybrid. i was so shocked. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves reading. Thanks Robin for writing this book.
This is a book that I have put on my top ten list! The author was able to tell the story of Genieve and William exceptionally well. The love between the two along with Joseph's love of Genieve was heart touching! I felt like I was on the edge of my seat at each page turn. I definetely will be recommending this book to friends who enjoy reading stories about vampires and wolves. I would also add that the flow of the story was excellent and beat the prior vampire story I had read!! At each page tu...more

I received this book as a R2R from the Lovers of Paranormal Group!
Stars: 3.5
Pros: I really enjoyed watching Gen's character develop from awkward teen to bad ass Alpha Female. The Legend about the princess was also a favorite scene of mine.
Cons: The beginning reminded me a little of Twilight and i felt that every other chapter someone was mad or crying about something. Plus the "romance seems to be happening way to quickly for my liking. It's been maybe 3 weeks and they already saying the 3 word...more

Starts slow. Picks up.
This is one of those stories you need to stick with. The first overwhelming thought when you start the story will be the “this is a cheap Twilight knockoff,” as I am sure any werewolf/vampire/new girl love triangle will now face from here on out. I had some issues with the characters, beside the “twilight” flashbacks, including the picnic that William takes Gen to in the meadow full of flowers…(hmmm, I’ve been here before…) The great love with William was really quick. Following her mother's death, Genevieve is forced to move to her aunt's house in Alaska. After arriving, she begins noticing her aunt Bev and others keeping things from her and strange events occurring only to discover that not everything is what it seems to be.
I couldn't connect with Gen. She was emotionally all over the place. She was childish, immature, and whiny, which made me strongly dislike her. I found William, a vampire, not genuine and something about him just wasn't.... right. I was n...more

Great read - if you like Twighlight - you'll like this. I actually like it better - great historical aspect.
This is a great story from start to finish. The author quickly grabs your attention and doesn’t let go until the very end. If you enjoyed the Twilight series, then this is a must read. It’s way more than just a story about werewolves and vampires. The author does a great job of intertwining Alaskan folk lore into the story and makes it much more believable. First thoughts:
Ties to the Blood Moon is a really intriguing and action-packed YA novel and I'm really happy that I read it. A few parts are a bit predictable, others were complete surprises and all in all it was a quite fast and easy read. If you are a fan of paranormal YA literature with two hot love interests, I'm sure you could like this.
More detailed:
The summary of Ties to the Blood Moon is very mysterious and gives almost nothing away, which I really like. Usually summari...more

I read some reviews before I started this and thought, uh oh, I'll try and keep an open mind. Where I do see the similarities to Twilight, I think that this still held it's own, and there were enough differences later on to keep me racing until the end.
I think that Waldrop had some good original ideas that have been over-shadowed by the success of Twilight. Not the first time it has happened, and definitely won't be the last.

Here’s a book that I was very nervous to start. Having read various reviews of this novel (both positive and negative) which highlighted some similarities with the famous saga written by Stephenie Meyer, I wanted to make my own opinion. And in the end I must say I liked it.

I'm so glad I read this book. My favorite YA genre books have vampires and werewolves in them and this book has both. The book starts of with our main character Genevieve living with her aunt Bev in Alaska because her mom died in a house fire weeks before. She has this reoccurring nightmares about the fire and their being wolves there even though she was in Alaska at the time. Then things start getting weird from there.....Genevieve character is like a lot of 17 year olds. Snarky, thinks she's a...more
I'll begin by saying what I didn't like: It was very similar to Twilight. There were a lot of things that instantly reminded me of it and I wished that it had a been a bit more original. However, the concept of the story and the plot were great! There was a great amount of detail, which I really liked as it helped me picture where they were and what the place looked like. I loved Genevieve as a character, she was strong and sure of herself even while dealing with so many problems. I loved the fr...more

Robin, I have been waiting on you !!!
I am happy if that is what am looking for to tell you how happy am about book one.
Genevieve was everything and more, a hurt teenager that had to come to turns with losing her mother, but still a little girl inside.
Her move to Alaska with her Aunt Bev leads to betrayal, love, lust, mystery and action.
Oh ! don't forget the werewovles and vampires.....
A great read......
Omg This book is da bomb as my daughter would say. This book has my 2 favorite paranormal groups in it vampires and werewolves. Genevieve lost her mother in a fire so she moved to Alaska with her aunt bev. Her aunt bev wanted her to home school but Gen made a fuss and begged her to let her attend a real school her aunt bev caved in and let her go. As time gose on she meets a really nice girl luna and her brothers and their friend William. She feel a special connection with William and they fall...more

W O W !!!!! Five stars!
After reading this book, it left me craving more! This story was really captivating and I enjoyed it thoroughly.
At first, the main character,Gen, was a bit whiny but naturally it made the story seem more real as this is how a normal teenager would behave . I was really glad though when she finally accepted her heritage and started to take everything in stride. This story had so many twists and turns which made you want to keep reading to find out what was happening next.

I received this book on condition of providing a review. I did enjoy this book. I did think the characters could have been developed a bit more thoroughly, and hope that v.2 will do that.

In the beginning, I will admit, this felt so very similar to Twilight. So many elements felt familiar. But I will quickly add that it did change about a third of the way in. I began this book at about 11:30 at night... I finished it at 5 in the morning, having been unable to put it down. Without realizing it, I was pulled into the entire story! It utterly shocked me when I was finished and realized that my alarm was due to go off in 30 minutes. Oops!

Werewolves, Vampires, and Hybrids? Oh yeah! Maybe that should be the subtitle to Ties to the Blood Moon.:) This YA Paranormal novel is a winner, start to finish. The characters are interesting with great dialog and action and the plot moves along at a pace that keeps you wondering "What's going to happen next?".
The Good: I enjoyed having the book take place in Alaska and involve a good, old legend that wove in and out throughout the storyline. As it is a YA book, I guess I should not have been...more

"as juvenile as I could." This basically sums this up. Gen moves in with her aunt after her house burns down with her mom in it. Is she grateful that her aunt is taking her in and giving her all she wants? Nope. Instead she whines and complains that the aunt is still a little over protective after WEEKS not months but a few weeks after the death of her mom. She pitches fits as if she's 3 and falls madly in love after days. It's ridiculous and horrendous. There was no way I could finish it.

3.5/5 stars. Wish Goodreads let us do half stars, lol. I rounded up in this case because I do want to read the next one.
REALLY needs editing. There are missing words every so often. There are things that should be indented that are not and the chapters do not even start on a new page.
I got it for free so how can I complain? Well, I'm sure the author would like honest feedback and I'm here to give mine.

This is going to be a tough review to write because there was so much that was right in this book but also so much that was wrong. It's not a secret that I have an extreme dislike for the Twilight series and to me there was way too much similarity between Twilight and Ties to the Blood Moon. Even certain scenes, like to cafeteria scene where Gen first sees William, and the animosity between Gen's vampire boyfriend and the werewolf that is in love with her. It felt like a lot of it was just Twili...more
Unfortunately, this is a DNF for me. I struggled through this, made it a bit further than half way and couldn't pick it up again. I never connected to Gen. I thought she was a bit too juvenile. I understand she is a teenager, but the temper tantrums she threw drove me nuts. And around the fourth or fifth time she fainted/passed out, I wanted her to cowgirl up.
What got me the most was there was very little world building. Besides being a parallel to the novel, Twilight, I really didn't feel as if...more

Ties To The Blood Moon can be summed up in one word--AWESOME!!! I could not put this book down. I started reading it right after I bought it, and didn't stop until the end.
Genevieve, the protag, is not a helpless human girl at all and that's one thing I really loved about her. So many other books portray the girl as wimpy, whiny, and helpless. Genevieve knew what needed to be done and regardless of the consequences, she did it.

I just finished Ties to the Blood Moon by Robin P. Waldrop. In this action packed YA action romance, Gen moves to Alaska after her mother dies in a house fire. She lives with her aunt Bev, whose concerned love quickly becomes oppressing. When she starts her senior year at the local high school, Gen meets William, a gorgeous young man shrouded in mystery. Gen also meets Luna and her three brothers. Her new friends help her deal with the news that she may be a lost heir to a mystical royal family...more
First off let me just say, WOW I was blown away! Robin is an extremely talented author. Why we haven’t seen anything from her before now is disturbing. I loved her easy to read style of writing and the way she executed dialogue. Very YA, very compelling. There were some minor grammatical errors, but they certainly didn't take away from the read.
