Three skinny socialites should be a pushover after the rough and tumble world of Wall Street. Right?

Kate Ryan may be au fait with making high-powered legal decisions but she's about to submit to the rules of reality TV, where nothing is what it seems. Who'd have thought a few days with the cameras rolling for a low-rent cable show would be so challenging, or that the claw...more

Bernadette Walsh has written an introductory line: “Never underestimate the healing properties of an hour of bad TV and a bar of chocolate.” Encouraged by this immediate connection with the reader, I plunged in and didn’t come up for air until I’d finished the book.

Gold Coast Wives is the name of a cheap, cable TV reality show, which stirs up the mud in the sparkling waters of the rich and glamorous of Long Island. The main character, Kate, is a last minute shoe-in for the program who doesn’t re...more

Kate Ryan had a great life. She was a Wall Street attorney, her husband was a Managing Director at a Wall Street investment bank, and a home on the North Shore of Long Island. But when the investment bank went bankrupt, her husband decided to "visit" his grandmother in Ireland. Five months later, Jim had not returned, she was unemployed, and she had more bills than money. Then a chance for short-term financial security came her way. A local cable TV channel is developing a reality show, "Gold Co...more

I have to say that I've never actually read chick-lit before so I wasn't really sure what to expect from this novel. I was pleasantly surprised to find a light-hearted and fairly humorous tale of Kate Ryan, a woman whose husband has left her to go gallivanting all over the globe and is left alone to look after a young daughter. Faced with rising debts and bills Kate agrees to take part in a new small-scale reality TV show called Gold Coast Wives; however, she quickly realises that perhaps she's...more

Gold Coast Wives is like a snap shot of those "Real Housewives" reality shows. I'd never watch them, but I had to read the book.

Why?

After reading Bernadette's A House On Prospect, I was interested in seeing.

She writes Gold Coast Wives just the way you'd expect this kind of reality show to play out. There's petty bickering, jealousy and backstabbing. None of it is Kate though. She's getting the bad end of the stick in this case.

If I had to put up with some of the things she had to for the show, I...more

Ok truthfully I thought this might be a really cheesy book, but I was surprisingly and pleasantly surprised! I really enjoyed the book! This book has the story lines like the reality TV shows. I don't watch the "Housewives" ones, but maybe I will now after reading this book! Women are brutal! Bernadette Walsh really describes the characters in the book very well, like you're right there in the middle of the "fun"! It could definitely be a series! If you like a little smut, light-hearted, back-st...more

This book starts out with Kate talking about how the economy had not just taken a downward twirl but how she has lost almost everything. Including her husband, entire savings, even her career as a lawyer is now gone. Somehow, Kate connects with an old friend who puts her in touch with someone who offers her a part in a new reality television show. This show will be aired on the local cable channels.

This was a great book. I really liked how strong the character Kate was. She never allowed herself...more

Gold Coast Wives was an very entertaining book that was a really fun quick read. Kate Ryan goes from a high powered lawery to reality TV to enduring the challenges with the ups and downs from those around her. From the beginning to the end, these characters will have you either loving them or hating them.
