In this ambitious and sweeping account, Taraborelli continues the family chronicle begun with his bestselling Jackie, Ethel, Joan and provides a behind-the-scenes look at the years "after Camelot." Kennedy "manse"??? I thought that was the home of a priest or pastor given by the church. Apparently it also means the Kennedy mansION in Palm Beech, FL.

Kennedy and "humble" in the same sentence??

This is my current audio pick. I've read tons of Kennedy stuff---the worshipful 60s stuff, the sleazy 70s-80s stuff and now, it "so long" since the assassinations we're finally to respectful, but not hiding much. I suppose that's good. I do think it's interesting that seemingly every-other-sentence is t...more

As a Canadian girl growing up in the '80's, I naturally was obsessed with the Kennedys. Okay, maybe it seems strange, but we didn't have anything equivalent in Canada. The Trudeaus tried but they just couldn't compare. Margaret Trudeau was no Jackie Kennedy Onassis. Pierre Trudeau may have dated Barbra Streisand but both Jack and Robert Kennedy were linked to Marilyn freakin' Monroe. Plus, my grandmother moved to Boston and married an Irish Catholic so I f...more

J. Randy Taraborrelli has given us an amazing account of an amazing family in his newest book After Camelot. It is a perfect sequel, if you will, to Jackie, Ethel & Joan: The Women of Camelot. I am glad I had the opportunity to read Jackie, Ethel & Joan first, although I don't think one would necessarily have to read it first, but it did give me tremendous insight into the dynamics of the Kennedy family. Both books compliment each other well. After Camelot is an extremely informative acc...more

This was a truly awesome account of the Kennedy clan from 1968 to present, well written and properly annotated with accredited sources cited throughout. Taraborrelli gives a sympathetic yet honest view of each branch of the Kennedys (including Shrivers, Smiths, Lawfords, Skakels, and Radziwills), presenting their achievements, struggles and even scandals artfully and tastefully. After having read the tainted and self-spotlighting crud spewed by lesser writers (like Ed Klein, Carole Radziwill, Mi...more

This was a good book. It isn’t specifically about Jack, Jackie or Bobby, all of whom have been explored - at length - in other biographies. This book focuses on the whole family: Joe, Rose and all of the second generation siblings and their spouses, as well as those of the third generation, who’ve made the headlines after 1968.

Love them or hate them, there’s plenty of material in this book to add to your emotions about the Kennedy’s. The biographer has had personal interaction with some family m...more

This is a well researched, easy to read book about life after Camelot and JFK. The book looks at the lives of the remaining Kennedy siblings and their children, the 3rd generation of Kennedys. It was interesting to read more details about some the lesser known of the Kennedy tribe- Eunice, Pat,and Sargent Shriver. It was sad to see the demons that so many of the 3rd generation have had to fight, some successfully other not so. Through all the triumphs and tragedies it is clear that family is mos...more

I don't know why I thought this book was going to be strictly about the "third generation" -- Caroline, John, Jr., Maria Shriver, etc., but I did.

Having said this, this IS one of the best books that I have read about the Kennedy family!

This is a well-researched and well-documented look at the Kennedy family post-Camelot -- not only after JFK's assassination, but really, post-Bobby, as well.

Taraborrelli breaks the book down into twenty-four chronological sections with "titles" such as "Jackie",...more

I really enjoy J. Randy Taraborrelli's nonfiction accounts of the Kennedys ... They all seem so well-researched, and the dialogue he creates based upon historical documents and interviews adds a lot of heart to the history within. Really enjoyed reading about JFK Jr., as well as his RFK cousins, in this edition, and learning about the other branches of the Kenndedy family tree (the sisters' families ... Eunice, Pat and Jean). I think I am officially a Kennedy junkie :)

This is an encyclopedic look at America's first family. It starts after the dark days in 1963 and Dallas taking us through all the triumphs and tragedies as of 2011. It's well researched with a lot of insider information that usually is unattributed.

It's a great bathroom book because you can just read bits and pieces as the sections are broken into chapters which are broken into smaller vignettes. Why are people so fascinated still? Why do we cry at the tragedies that seem even sharper when a K...more

If you were alive during the Kennedy era, this book is for you! I think I was too young/busy to realize what was going on with Chappaquidick, but this cleared up what was going on at the time. WOW!! Where were the investigative reporters then??? A great peek at a very famous family, I was sad to have it end!

This tells the story of the Kennedy family post JFK's death through the present. I'm the same age as most of the 3rd generation of Kennedy's. The author has really done his research and has some great information about the family that I didn't know about. One of the better books I've read recently.

The author has quite the research team and the amount of sources consulted is dazzling. He manages to cover most of the major scandals and dramas of this fascinating family without delving into tabloid journalism and yet it's a compulsive read. Full review on Pursuitist.com.

For those into all things Kennedy this is a pretty objective account, albeit not as interesting as a single book on JFK Jr. can be. All the 3rd-generation family members are updated here and all the tragedies post-1968 detailed. Can there be too many Kennedy books? As long as there is anything new to report, I guess not.

Always loved reading about the Kennedys....He was the first President that I paid any kind of attention to, and in my 13 year old world, he was the greatest, with a beautiful wife and two little kids. When Robert was killed, and then all the problems surfaced with the rest of the members of that huge family, I understood. All that pressure to perform and serve! Yikes!

Very well written, and gave me a lot of insight to their behaviors.

It was a long book, but I pretty much read and enjoyed the book cover to cover. There were only a few spots where it was too "dry" and I skipped a few paragraphs or a page.

I am a huge Kennedy book reader and this is one of my favorites. This author is an amazing writer and there are stories in the book I never heard before which is hard to believe.

This book was a disappointment to me. I checked it out, thinking it would be solid history. But it felt more like reading a gossip magazine. Not my cup of tea.

It was with great passion and interest I read about the Kennedy families. The challenges they faced along with their rich wonderful lives...Great book!
Phyllis
A well-written, well-researched Kennedy book. At this time of upheaval, looking at how this family of the 1% adheres to a code of 'giving back' and 'making a difference' is both enlightening and uplifting. A long book, yes, but worth the time to read.

Wow! This book is absolutely amazing. I've read a plethora of books on the Kennedy's over the years and this one could very well be the best. I adore Taraborrelli's writing style and how the story is organized into chapters with titles. I felt like I reading a dramatic saga, not a non-fiction work of research. I couldn't put it down.

This book is well researched, eloquently written and absolutely enjoyable. I didn't want it to end! So much I didn't know about the Kennedy's and I thought I knew it...more

This book was overly long, but it had interesting stories on some of the Kennedys.

Well researched and well written for those who lived in Camelot or wished they did.

“What's to rationalize? You mean you shouldn't pray if you haven't got your s--t together? This is another fairly common misconception of faith, which is that people who go to church, or people who pray, or people who talk about their religion must be, somehow more pious or ethically rigorous or have more morally cleansed lifestyle. The high correlation is supposed to be between faith and your search, the depth of your search, your willingness to try, your willingness to admit error, your hope and belief in the ultimate meaning and value of that search.' - Timothy Shriver” 1 person liked it
