Angel Betrayed was a spellbinding paranormal romance that charmed me from the first page. Cynthia Eden knows how to weave a story to captivate. The superb world-building will pull you right in and the dynamic characters will keep you turning the pages. What I loved most about this book was neither of the main characters were flawless, they each carried demons (literally) and made many mistakes. It just endeared them more to me.

For those who have been following the series, Cynthia Eden delves deeper into the world of the Angels with more characters as well as the hierarchy and politics of Heaven. We also learn that there is more to Sam then the cold, dangerous and slightly evil side we saw in Angel of Darkness. He didn’t Fall for a woman, vanity or even selfish pleasures; he fell for justice. Add that great sense of honor he hides so well to his bad boy attitude and the sexy swagger to pull it off, this is one angel that will leave you panting.
Seline was also a wonderful character and made for a kick-ass heroine full of spunk and determination. All she wants is her freedom and to get it she is not above deceiving Sam but that hard exterior slowly starts to crumble as she discovers more about herself and learns her own self worth. I never knew just which way Selline was going to go; she’s a character that will keep you on your toes. I really enjoyed watching both character’s evolvement, they completed each other well and it felt like to parts making a whole when they came together. The passion between them sizzled; but with a succubus and a centuries-old Fallen Angel you should expect that right? Well get ready for that cold shower because Sam and Seline will even blow those expectations out the door, these two together are H-O-T!
A little twist made for a surprising final few chapters and I can’t wait to see what else Cynthia Eden has in store for us with The Fallen and Az in Angel in Chains (November 27th, 2012).

Angel Betrayed is part of The Fallen series but set up well to be read by itself. One of my favorite paranormal romance authors, I don’t even look at the blurb anymore before picking up one of her books. I know I’m going to love it regardless!(less)

This is one of those novels that stuck with me long after I read it. I kept having daydreams about my own Fallen Angel, because, wow, Sammael is one sexy hero. The shadowy image of his black wings is such a nice touch. He’s a Fallen, and he’s one of those bad boys who doesn’t care about anything. But when Seline dances into his life, he realizes that it kind of sucks not caring about anything. Especially once he realizes he cares about Seline.

Seline is setting Sam up, big time. I love betrayal plots, and I love watching the hero/heroine try to get around that to have a relationship. This betrayal was early on so they had plenty of page time to fall in love and deal with Seline trying to kill him. Also, maybe she wasn’t going to kill him. She’s tricky like that.

Seline is a half-succubus, and the father-figure in her life is a Punishment Angel. He’s not a Fallen, since he still has his wings, but he’s not as favored as he thinks. He uses Seline to get him close to his mark, then he…delivers justice. One thing though, is he keeps telling Seline that she is an abomination, and he feeds her a lot of misinformation, so we get to see Seline learning and making her own judgment. I liked seeing her change her opinion on certain things because it made her a fantastic heroine. She wasn’t needy, or whiny, or TSTL. She was easy to like, and you wanted to root for her.

Sam was an Angel of Death, and his touch can kill, yet it never hurts Seline. Why is that? Is there more to her than just her succubus side? And what exactly is her other half? There is quite the twist towards the end that really had me thinking there might be a different ending. I love when an author can mislead me without making me feel like the ending came out of left field.

Cynthia Eden is one of my favorite authors, I especially love that her romantic suspense is actually paranormal romantic suspense. You can’t beat that!

Ms. Eden has a way of sucking you into her story and keeping you breathless until the ride is over.

4.5 Stars. Very good read. Much tighter plotline than the first book, a better story; and a very enjoyable H/h. What is so great about Eden's stories are that they are Romantic Suspense and PNR all wrapped up together. They are always exciting and romantic reads, full of Demons, Angels, Shifters, and Vampires.

Seline O’Shaw has a problem and she really is in need of some protection. With the hounds of hell after her she will take the protection from anywhere she can get it. I loved Sammael from the moment he walked onto the pages of Angel of Darkness. So I was more than excited to read his book. He is my favorite type of hero. He is one of those characters that have done things that could easily be perceived as evil or wrong. He does things his way. He bends the rules or he just makes new ones to fit his needs. I love these qualities in my romance heroes.

Readers were only given a few details about Seline in Angel of Darkness. I was very curious about her character...more I loved Sammael from the moment he walked onto the pages of Angel of Darkness. So I was more than excited to read his book. He is my favorite type of hero. He is one of those characters that have done things that could easily be perceived as evil or wrong. He does things his way. He bends the rules or he just makes new ones to fit his needs. I love these qualities in my romance heroes.

Readers were only given a few details about Seline in Angel of Darkness. I was very curious about her character. I liked what she brought to the book. She is very similar to Sam. She is willing to do anything to see that her objective is met. What her character is is also very fascinating. It allows for her character to be both vulnerable and bad ass.

Sam and Seline both have some major trust issues, and with good cause. The reasons why Sam and Seline begin their adventure and why they stick to each other’s sides throughout the adventure is proof enough as to why they should have trust issues. They continuously make deals with each other. Seline has information that Sam wants. Sam has the power to help Seline to get what she wants. They just have to find a middle ground that will allow them enough trust to see their needs to an ends.

They also have to figure out what to do with all the lust that is radiating between them. Whoa, these two are hot, and the flames between them keep getting hotter. I really liked Sam and Seline as a couple. Everything about them as a couple works. The tension is high all around. Deep down even though they don’t know it, they have the same wants in life. Together when the trouble comes knocking they are a force to be reckoned with.

I do believe that Angel Betrayed can be read without having read Angel of Darkness. Sam and Seline, and Azrael all three have roles in book #1 of The Fallen series. Their roles in the first book are small and the key factors are retold briefly in Angel Betrayed. Keenan and Nicole also have small roles in the second book, but not to where you have to have read the first book to have a full understanding as to what is going on.

To be honest, at first I was a little wary of this book. I mean, a succubus? I was expecting a horribly shallow femme fatale with not a lot going for her. But, the rating was a 4.37 on here, and I rarely see a book with a rating that high. After all, the first book in this series had a way lower rating.

I'm kind of sick of all the Cynthia Eden heroines who lie. For stupid reasons, even when it would help them more to tell the hero. Seriously, in Never Cry Wolf it was really well done, but in this it sort sucked.

I am kind of annoyed that the tiny part of Nicole we get to see is an unlikable person.

In the first book I was not a fan of Sammael (Sam). He just seemed mean and I disliked him. There were times in this book I wanted to punch him (glad Seline took a swing at him and pushed him a time or two for me). He is definitely an Angel who thinks very highly of himself. But he is also an Angel that has been through so much pain and suffering, so you don’t really blame him for being the way he is. I also wasn’t sure of Seline and what she was up to at first. Sam and Seline took awhile to trust one another, and as a reader I felt the same way. However, Seline was just what Sam needed. She had strength, power and an attitude to match his. I loved listening to Seline’s snarky thoughts and her responses to situations. I think Cynthia really did a great job with the two of them. She led them on the exact journey they needed to go on to change their ways and figure out what they wanted for their future. I am very intrigued by Sam and Azrael’s relationship as brothers. Looking forward to Azrael’s story in the next book and hope it will make some sense of the events in this one where Az is concerned.

I really like books that cause me to laugh and cry and this one did both. There is so much going on in this book – not just with the characters and the relationships they have but the good versus evil component and who should be allowed to judge someone else’s actions. It was very hard to put down. I highly recommend you read this series if you like paranormal books with romance and suspense!

Every time I purchase a Cynthia Eden book there is no doubt in my mind about being disappointed of how well or how much the story lacked in whatever element. This story is no exemption. Angel Betrayed never lacked action, romance, suspense, and all of the other elements that make this paranormal story a great one.

Sammael is everything I expected of a main character of his type: deadly, hot, brave, powerful, and, against his better judgment, passionate with “damsel in distress”. Seline (although I felt exasperated by her in the beginning of the story) was valiant, selfless, and smart. Both characters gave their all to get what they wanted.

The plot was tastefully well chosen. There was not any indication that the author went through it making it seem rushed and out of place. There was great flow, setting, and, I have to say, I loved the tone. It is one of the reasons why I love reading a Cynthia Eden story. The sex scenes were hot, the fighting scenes were vicious and violent, and the emotional moments got me tearing up a bit. I truly enjoyed this story.

Angel Betrayed, the second book in The Fallen Series, has five stars from me. I’m sure that other fellow readers would agree when I say that this story surpasses the expectations we had set in our minds while waiting patiently for it. The wait was well worth it.

This second book of Cynthia's FALLEN series was another great read. She really knows how to build a character with flaws that stick with them and we still end up loving the hero/heroine :). The world of the angels is opened to us. Characteristics of angels that I learned in church and Christian readings are seen throughout the pages. I really enjoy that.

Sam was once an angel but now is a fallen. Once an angel of death, but when he began killing people who weren't supposed to die he was kicked out of the heavens and lost his wings. Sam will never apologize, nor does he regret his decisions, the people he killed deserved their deaths. Now centuries later, he still kills the ones who deserve it and he trusts no one, this includes Seline.

Seline is half succubus and half angel, and she needs help gaining her freedom. She was raised by Rogziel, a punishment angel who has been using her to gain what he wants. Now he wants Sam, and Seline knows that with this last job she will finally gain her freedom. But what starts off as job quickly turns into so much more. Seline can't resist Sam's allure and they both quickly come to an agreement. Sam will help her gain her freedom as long as she helps him find his brother Az.

At first neither Sam nor Seline trusts one another. Both have trust issues and with good reason. I really enjoyed watching these two interact with one another. The attraction between these two is electric and both find it hard to keep their hands off of one another. But what quickly starts out as just sex becomes so much more. They both are just trying to get by and neither want to fall for the other. I enjoyed watching them both drop their walls and let each other in.

This book was non stop action and I can't wait to read more from Cynthia Eden. I'm especially eager to see where this series is going to go now. Lots of things are happening and making things really interesting. I definitely hope to possibly see more of Sam and Seline in the future.

WOW! Just WOW!!!

This is by far, my best experience with Cynthia Eden so far. The story offers bad-ass hero, tough heroine, viscious (and pretty f*cked up) villains, terrifying hellhounds (!), a scorching hot romance, and all around non-stop action. It keeps me awake because I can't stop reading it (even on the bus!).

This series intrigued me because the hero is not the "typical" hero. I mean, sure, we have bad-ass heroes in this kind of book, but Sammael (and the hero for the next book,...more 4.5 stars

WOW! Just WOW!!!

This is by far, my best experience with Cynthia Eden so far. The story offers bad-ass hero, tough heroine, viscious (and pretty f*cked up) villains, terrifying hellhounds (!), a scorching hot romance, and all around non-stop action. It keeps me awake because I can't stop reading it (even on the bus!).

This series intrigued me because the hero is not the "typical" hero. I mean, sure, we have bad-ass heroes in this kind of book, but Sammael (and the hero for the next book, Azrael) is actually portrayed as the 'enemy' beforehand. In book one, Sammael is not really helping Keenan (the hero in book 1) by the goodness of his heart. And Azrael is the one responsible (view spoiler). So the set-up in the beginning is already different.

Sammael is a Fallen, and he is one of the strongest there is. His reason to Fall is bad-ass by itself. Nothing can (really) stop him -- even facing hellhounds (who are literally FROM Hell) he just shows his power. At the same time, when he falls in love (finally!) for Seline, he shows this vulnerability, without losing his strength. Seline is his and Sam protects what's his. Gosh, the sacrifice he's willing to do for Seline. This man is so HOT! ^_^. Their romance is not simply fireworks, is NAPALM!

Seline might start in the beginning as a half-demon (she's a half succubus, from her father's side) who thinks she doesn't have enough power and embarassed by her own heritage. Sure, she can kill someone with a kiss but she always sees herself as low class demon, thus weak and vulnerable. But when Seline discovers what she can do, hell yeah, she kicks ass (she actually able to stun Sam by surprise a couple of times, so you GO Seline!).

The villains are all f*cked up in mind (shudder). I actually love how this series show angels as not being entirely good or innocent. Hundred of years of servitude can messed up their own definition of guilt and punishment. I like that. It's so complicated and layered and twisted.

My only reason for not giving it a 5-star rating is that the trust-distrust issue between Sam and Seline (well, mostly Sam after half the book) feels repetitive at times. It does disrupt my joy of reading. But other than that, this book is super-awesome!

I cannot wait to read Az's story in November. I wonder what lesson this newly Fallen learns on Earth and what woman can brings him to his knees. I am soooo looking forward to that.(less)

One of the things I liked best about this book was that this was no instant-love story. The feelings between Sam and Saline develop slowly over time. Sammael is this hardened, deadly weapon. Anyone who has ever truly known him has feared him, but not Saline. It's just this pure passion... and hope that he can help her gain her freedom. He could kill her with barely a thought, but even when he figures out he is her target, he doesn't. He remains guarded, but at the same time recognizes something between them that he doesn't want to let go. He's growly and bad-ass and I really enjoyed him.

Saline has grown up surrounded by lies and violence, but she still knows right from wrong. She does a good job balancing her morality with her need to survive. I thought she was likeable and did the best she could with the hand she was dealt.

The sex is really hot in this story, as you'd probably expect with a succubus heroine. There's also a lot of action and an interesting plot --with a cool twist at the end. This is the second book in The Fallen series. The main characters from book one do make an appearance, but I think it was easy to jump in as a new a reader. The world here is rich with secondary characters, primed and ready for their own stories. That includes Tomas, a fallen guardian angel in love with his charge... as well as Sam's brother Azrael, who did some bad things in book one, but has turned himself around.

I liked it. And I'll pick up book three when it comes out.

We met Fallen angel Sammael (Sam) during book 1 of the Fallen series, Angel of Darkness. Sam is also a Fallen Angel, a former Angel of Death. Sam falls from grace after he decides to kill those who were preying on the weak and helpless. Review: Cynthia Eden has a knack for writing great stories. Angel Betrayed is book # 2 in her Fallen Series. The story and characters are great, it isn’t often I enjoy angel stories but she has done a really good job creating a compelling plot and interesting characters.

As an angel of death, Sammael (Sam)’s job is to watch, watch how innocent people die. His job is to only take the souls without interference. He gives them peace after their suffering but he has gotten tired of just watching, he now has to do something to stop it. But his actions cost him greatly.

Sam is a fallen, and he has adjusted to his new life. He has adjusted quite well; he has created a reputation among the “others” and that serves him well. I can’t begin to say how much I enjoy reading about Sam. He is sin at its best; the angel is hot, smart and a total badass. His uncanny way of handling his “business” is what has kept him alive for the main purpose of making his brother pay.

Seline is a succubus and she has set her eyes on Sam. She knows the angel is dangerous but she can’t help feeling attracted to him. Her plan is to get Sam to fall for her so that she can win her freedom. Everything goes well until she starts falling for the enemy. The chemistry between Seline & Sam was instant. From the moment he saw her, he knew he had to have her. Seline enjoyed Sam’s attention what she didn’t know was that she would get more than she could bargain for.

I enjoy these characters, they are witty and funny. Their interaction & dialog was entertaining and felt real. The action was entertaining and made this read even more fun. There is plenty of sex, and tension between these two characters. There ingredients for a great series is there, love, action, kick-ass angels and awesome villains. I am looking forward to reading Book #1 of the series. We are given a taste of the relationship between Nichole & Kenan and it looks like their story is awesome. After reading Angel of Darkness I was soooo excited to find out it was time for Sam's story!! He is such a tortured soul (perfect for a fallen angel I guess) and I just love my heroes tortured. in my never ending search for these angel books i like so much, i stumbled upon this one. ehhh we'll call this 1.5 but i'm rounding down.

don't have time to go into the details but it just didn't work for me. i liked the male lead sometimes, but had a hard time liking anyone else. the plot had the potential to be fun but had several issues imo, more so toward the end - i.e. random things popping up that hadn't been introduced as possibility - that just didn't make sense within the world. writing...more

Angel's, Demon's, and Shifter's, Oh my… Fast, fun, and sexy. I love a story with a complex character's. The good guys aren't always so good, and the bad guys may not really be so bad after all. Filled with great plot twists, steeped in mystery and intrigue, the lovable and frustrating Sam is stubborn, angry, and misunderstood - and a total hottie!

It's hard not enjoy a bad ass fallen angel. Sam is a Fallen, he took to killing a little too well when he had his wings. He killed people not slated to die, and even though he killed people who needed it, humans that took pleasure in the pain and suffering of others, the kills weren't Sam's call to make. He was forced to fall, lost his wings and as angels don't feel emotions, he gained those in full. He comes across Seline, and they both need each other...need to use each other for their own gain and to safe their own lives, so they form an uneasy partnership as they each set up to get what they want: Sam wants his brother Az, so he can kill him, Seline just wants to be free and needs Sam’s protection.

Seline is half succubus/half angel and not much is known about who she really is and what her “powers” are. She's working for an angel, Rogziel, who is the being she wants to be free from. Rogziel is taking vengeance into his own hands and killing the fallen angels on Earth. He wants to get rid of all the "abominations" and Seline knows that that's how he sees her as well and her time will soon come. There's no love loss between Sam and Rogziel either and when Rogziel sets his hellhound out on Sam, he goes from wanting Az dead, to Rogziel and has to try and stay one step ahead of the angel to do it.

The action in the story has some great, intense moments. We see small scenes with all the Fallen that Rogziel kills and even though we don't get a lot of page time with them, it's obvious that he's killing Fallen that are causing no harm to anyone. Sam and Seline find themselves right in the middle of every action scene and have to fight off one pissed off brother in Az, who's recently Fallen himself, hellhounds, angels, you name it, they fought them. The fighting and action had me flipping the pages pretty quickly to see what was going to happen next and the fast pace of the story was easy to get into.

"Let go," he told her. "Take, give...do whatever the fuck you want with me. You won't hurt me."

A lover who could handle her. She swallowed and held him tighter.

And took.

When the climax hit them both, the pleasure rushed through her body and flooded her being. She sent that pleasure out, working on instinct, and gave it right back to him.

The release she felt then was so powerful that it stole her breath. Her heart nearly burst from her chest, and she held on to Sam as tightly as she could even as the ripples of climax rocked between them.

When she could suck in a full breath, she tasted power and pleasure.

And knew - as she'd suspected from the beginning - that she'd found an addiction.

Sam.

Sam and Seline's relationship starts out very rocky. They're both weary of trusting the other, always finding reasons to doubt the other person's intentions. This is especially true for Sam who was burned badly in the past by a woman he thought he loved. Seline is tough and she gives as good as she gets and with Sam's help she starts to understand both her demon side and angel side better and for the first time is able to let go sexually with Sam. As a succubus, she was always on that fine line of being with a man, taking power from him, but always having to hold back for fear of killing him. With Sam, she takes his power, but gives him hers in return and it causes some intense scenes between them. As far as the actual romance, it always had a hard, fast and intense feeling to it. Sam isn't a guy to woo his woman, and the scenes between them reflect that. But I did like how he softened, as much as Sam can, towards Seline and went from wanting to use her for his own purposes to protecting her at all costs.

I enjoyed the scenes with Az...he's a bit of a question mark at this point, much like Sam was at the end of Angel of Darkness. It almost felt like he had two personalities at times, going from wanting to fight Sam and kill him, to turning around and helping him and Seline when they were in some tough spots. He'll be an interesting character to get to know better as the series goes on.

I overall enjoyed this one. Sam is a badass, no other way to describe him. He makes no apologies for doing what he did in the past or for doing what he needs to in order to protect Seline. Seline is just as strong and makes a pretty big sacrifice at the end that proves not only her strength, but her love for Sam. This reads well as a stand alone and the series really picked up the pace with this latest installment. I'm looking forward to seeing who's up next - hopefully it'll be Az's turn. (less)
