Though based on a dispicable historical character, who at one point admits his own life "was openly obscene and evil," Silence Never Betrays is finely written, informative, literary, and full of cultural brush strokes that bring to life southern Louisiana and its uniqueness. Hadrian Boswell "had escaped love, had given his [artistic] talent to the devil and was now the quiet victim of a desire that, like an ancient plum, hung rotting over his head."
