Opening line: “To Sherlock Holmes she is always the woman. I have seldom heard him mention her under any other name. In his eyes she eclipses and predominates the whole of her sex.”

Well this was a surprise; the classics and especially mysteries are not my usual fare but due to my recent obsession with the BBC series Sherlock (How yummy is Benedict Cumberbatch) and then watching Downey and Jude Law in the movie Game Of Shadows I realized that I had never actually read any of Conan Doyle’s stories...more

Holmes done over by a bird?! Certainly the man is not at his tip-top form and neither is this story, but it's a good one, perhaps for its contemporary pathos. Holmes for once seems fallible, almost human. Not only does he slip up, he also falls for a woman. No, it's not Doyle's best bit of writing, but for the sake of posterity, it might be the best thing he ever did for his Sherlock Holmes series.

This month, I read "A Scandal in Bohemia" by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. "A Scandal in Bohemia" is one of the many stories in the Sherlock Holmes collection. This story is about Sherlock and John receiving a case from a very mysterious client. It give each detail from the case description all the way too Sherlock solving the case and his thoughts on it in the end.

I liked that this story had an interesting case that could have gone a number of different directions. This component made me feel more li...more

A scandal in Bohemia is a short yet entertaining adventure of no other than the greatest sleuth of fiction history, Sherlock Holmes. In this case, Holmes is once again accompanied by his Boswell, partner and trusted friend, Dr. John Watson. But this time, Dr. Watson is already married to Mary Morstan allowing changes to their "flatmate" relationship in Baker street. They were approached by an anonymous masked client who turns out to be Wilhelm Gottsreich Sigismond von Ormstein, the great Duke of...more

For my British literature book review, I read “A Scandal in Bohemia.” Which is one of the Six Great Sherlock Holmes Stories. This novel was written in 1891 and this is very evident in the writing. This is a story of the king of Bohemia. The king is engaged to Clotide Lothman, which is the princess of Scandonavia. But before he was fomally engaged to Clotide, he was engaged to a woman named Irene. Him and Irene had what would be called an “informal engagement” and therefore would have been looked...more

When the book first starts, the narrator, which is Dr. Watson passes by Sherlocks apartment, he thinks “what the heck, i'll go and talk to my old friend Sherlock”. He then knocks on the door and Sherlock answers, they talk a little bit, Dr. Watson tells Sherlock that he was married, they talk a little bit about marriage, the Sherlock notices something on his shoes, he also finds out the Dr. Watson is having an affair, Watson denys and they go upon their business. There all-of-a-sudden a knock is...more

Though Sherlock Holmes looked upon women only with the eyes of pathology, there was one who proved superior to his cunning and remains carved in his memory. It was the beautiful, bewitching, clever, and daring Irene Adler.

She was the love object for many men, among them the King of Bohemia who promised her ten years ago that he would one day offer his hand in marriage. Now, with the public announcement of his marriage to the daughter of the King of Sweden just three days away, the King fears th...more

Sherlock is back on the BBC, and this Holmes-nut is very happy about that. For that reason, I’m not missing the opportunity to have a Sherlock tale as the first of 366 books I’m going to highlight this year.

Tonight’s show will be a modern reworking of A Scandal in Bohemia, first published in The Strand in 1891. This story is much-loved by Sherlockians, and Doyle himself (rather precisely) ranked it as his fifth favourite Holmes story.

The original story sees the King...more

The overall plot of like "A Scandal in Bohemia” was that the King of Bohemia is about to enter an advantageous marriage, but he visits Holmes for help because an actress with whom he once had an affair, Irene Adler, has love letters and a photo with the two of them in her possession, and the king fears the damage that could be done with them. Watson and the hired performers also helped , and one of his disguises, Holmes stages makes a scene at Adler's home to discover the hiding place of the go...more

In the beginning of the story it seems a bit weak where Sherlock seems The King of Bohemia comes to London to visit Sherlock Holmes in disguise. He is scared that his marriage to the King’s daughter from Scandinavia is in danger because of Irene Adler. She is his ex-girlfriend has a photo of them which he worries may cause a problem with them. A scandal in Bohemia a story of Irene Aidler a lady who uses some photographs to blackmail the king. The king who is going to get married, asks for Sherlock Holmes help to get the photographs from Irene Aidler. Its hard to imagine that Sherlock Holmes in the Scandal of Bohemia was outshined by the Irene Aidler. I found this interesting since Sherlock is always the one who gets to solves mysteries however thats not the case here. The photograph that Sherlock Holmes was trying to acquire from Irene...more

A Scandal in Bohemia is a story about the King of Bohemia who wanted to erase all proofs of his past affair with Irene Adler so he could get married with the queen of Scandinavia. Having attempted to rob her house and bribe her servants unsuccessfully, he appeals to Holmes to solve this mystery. Holmes shows off his great capacities to solve this mystery and uses thoughtful strategy. But Irene in my opinion is much more intelligent then Holmes, she automatically figured out his plan. How will H...more

The Scandal in Bohemia is a great story about femme fatal, the femme fatal in the story is Irene Adler, and the King of Bohemia was having an affair with her. I found it very interesting about how the King of Bohemia wants erase all the things that he had with Irene Adler and get married with the Queen.
Sherlock Holmes was genius in the story, he was a genius in every stories by the way, but this time to erase all the things about the king had an affair with Irene Adler, I found out that Irene Ad...more

Have you seen the series Sherlock, the modern one with Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman? I am quite fan-obsessed about it and am anxiously waiting for the third series to come out. That series, and I guess the Hollywood versions with Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law made me want to read the books. Only I didn't know where to start.

Then I got a new job where I am not exactly superbusy - yet. So as I spend a lot of time doing nothing, I thought of getting daily doses of books via email to ke...more

This was the first of the Sherlock Holmes stories that I have read, and the third story written by Doyle. There are about 51 short stories and 4 novels so I do not propose on writing up a review on each of them. First of all it will make it look like I have read more books on Goodreads than I really have (in the same way if I added every sonnet that I have read up as well, though I would like to write commentaries on a number of them) and that it is not truly a book, it is a short story, meant...more

A Scandal in Bohemia

Sherlock Holmes and Watsons come across this masked man that is offering them a job. Holmes deduces that the man in front of them is actually the king. What the king needs are for some photos of him and this woman called Irene Addler to be recovered as he is getting married soon.

I think that Sherlock Holmes is a very good book and I would recommend it to people to read. My favorite parts of the book are when Sherlock Holmes deduces things and then explains how he does it to...more

“A Scandal in Bohemia” was the first of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s short stories. In this story Holmes is visited by a man who introduces himself as Count Von Kramm, but Holmes deduces that he is actually the Grand Duke of Cassel-Falstein; Wilhelm Gottsreich Sigismond von Ormstein. The King admits to Sherlock’s findings and takes of his mask. He needed Holmes to help him track down Irene Adler, who he once had a relationship with, and get back a photograph she has which could destroy his throne an...more

”A Scandal in Bohemia” is different from most of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s stories. This is one of his better stories because the outcome doesn’t end the way everyone is used to seeing. The story takes place in England where the king is getting blackmailed by a past lover who has this letter that should not be shown to anyone. He starts to worry and calls in Holmes and Watson. Their job is to find out who this person is and get the letter so it is never shown again. Holmes quickly found out but i...more

A Scandal in Bohemia by Arthur Conan Doyle was a very interesting and exciting book. I like the book because it caught my attention to how Sherlock Holmes solves cases like its nothing. Many of us could solve these cases if we actually pay attention and observe everything around us just like Sherlock Holmes does. A Scandal in Bohemia is about this beautiful young lady named Irene Adler who uses her beauty to deceive and blackmail a man named Count Von Kramm who is engaged to be married to Clotil...more

Arthur Conan Doyle was born the third of ten siblings on 22 May 1859 in Edinburgh, Scotland. His father, Charles Altamont Doyle, was born in England of Irish descent, and his mother, born Mary Foley, was Irish. They were married in 1855.

Although he is now referred to as "Conan Doyle", the origin of this compound surname (if that is how he meant it to be understood) is uncertain. His baptism record...more
