A very "electrifying" book, and a good read, Richard Paul Evans out-did himself writing the sequel to Micheal Vey: Prisoner of Cell 25. The age range for this book varies but putting a specific age on this book probably anywhere from 14-20 years old, but anyone who is interested in electricity and boy wonder's will enjoy this book. I found that Mike is a very relatable person. The way he has to lead his group of friends through a series of events that involve hand to hand combat, lightning, some...more
I had high expectations for this book. I was sorely disappointed.
Good points first
There was a lot of action and danger. There were a few humorous lines.
Characters
There are suddenly too many characters to do any of them justice, and the book spends more time with Hatch and his gang than I would ever care about.
There is triangular tension between Abi, Jack, and Zeus, but it doesn't get anywhere until (view spoiler)...more

This book is the second in a series by Richard Paul Evans. It tells of some kids that have crazy electrical powers. These kids are on a mission to stop an evil genius. Their enemy is the typical bad guy. Ya know, the type that has a master plan to take over the world and all that crap. Anyways, these kids have to unite and find a way to stop this man from taking over earth.
I liked this novel because of a few reasons. I think it is pretty sweet how all of these kids have super powers. I also like...more

The Story-
Michael Vey and his mother move around a lot. That is because Michael has a secret, and electrical secret. From the time he was born he was able to pulse electric surges at people. Right now he is a student at Meridian High School, with a best friend named Ostin and a crush on a cheer leader named Taylor.
He tries to hide his powers, but one day he gets beat up so badly by the school bullies, that he shocks all three of them to the ground. Even worse, Taylor sees the whole thing! Hoping...more

I must say I am incredibly glad I saw this on the shelf at a bookstore and decided to read it. The first one was Phenominale and I wish the third one would come out faster. But here's the gist of it. Michael is a very well thought out character who is very out going and brave. The story was a little Cliche but I enjoyed it none the less. It's one of those books you read just to know the good guy would win, get the girl, and save his family. It made me wonder why others gave soooooo much attentio...more
This book is the amazing sequel to the first book Michael Vey Prisoner of Cell 25. In the previous book Michael Vey and his other electric friends break out of the compound in California and save Taylor. Now when they arrive back home in Idaho, the Elgen are trying to capture them but they dodge the trap. They eventually get captured but escape and nearly get captured again. They find Michael’s mom and find out she is in Peru. A weird voice helps them out and gets them on a flight to Peru. They...more
Rise of the elgen is a great book for everyone that likes adventure and action. Michael vey is a kid that was given the ability to shock people. Although he is not the only one that can do thing like this there are 16 others just like him.
this book takes place mostly in Peru although there is a good portion in Idaho. Dr. hatch is the leader of a company called the Elgen. the elgen is a company that had created kids that were electric.

Wow I loved this book and I loved the first book. It's full of action and dialogue and that's just the way I like it. There are no slow parts in the book where the character just sits there and thinks for like ten pages. They do stuff. Michael is awesome and strong and brave, and he is a great hero and leader.
I have no bad comments to make, other than the romance - I didn't feel it. But I think it was a nice addition, although now almost everybody is pairing up in this book. I don't like Abigai...more

The first installment in the Michael Vey series had some fun payoffs and left things delightfully unresolved. The second installment leaves things in a complete shambles and "ends" in almost in dreamlike fashion. A few things happen and a few things are resolved but a few more things arise and you'll long for the next book (I hope the author doesn't die before finishing the series!). This second book's strongest point is the interaction between the involved parties and introduces new intrigues a...more
First line:
""This had better be important," the man said."
The next book in the Michael Vey series won't disappoint. With constant twists and action, and creepy plots like glowing rats, it's hard to put this book down.
Michael Vey is part of a special group of kids with special powers. And certain people want them dead. Another group of people also want the special kids, but hopefully to help them. But Michael must first save his mother, who has been kidnapped by the bad guys as bait for Michael.

I hate Richard Paul Evans for not releasing the third book in the series right now ;-)
This was a good follow up to the first novel. Evans was able to remind me of the important points of the plot unobtrusively throughout the story. Evans also upped the stakes effectively and even concluded this part of the series with a generally satisfying ending. Of course, it is obvious that there is much more to come, but the main plot point of rescuing his mother was resolved (most likely - there is still a...more

This book was amazing, it is a thriller. It is one of those books that you can’t put down. You are on edge on almost every part. There is some romance and mystery. This book is very action packed. There are fires and lightning bolts flying. It is very excited and very breath taking. This book is about a group of kids with electric powers, and they basically fight an evil guy named Hatch. Rise of the Elgen is the second entry in the series Michael Vey. It is not, as the cover would suggest, the sequel to The Prisoner of Cell 25 as this is clearly intended to be a series. In fact, the author says it will be a SEVEN book series, so NOT a sequel. It does, however, work as a stand alone entry point into the series for readers who have not yet read the first book as the author provides a concise but thorough recap in the opening chapters of how our cast of characters has come to be in...more
Rise of the Elgen is mostly same as the first book really, but a lot more "No I totally didn't see that coming"... (You can sense my sarcasm right???) So as I said before. Very cliche, twelve-year-old writing skills (and I feel I may be insulting twelve-year-olds here....my apologies...) And really WHY does every author think they have to make up six different relationships on the way? I am sorry but forty year old men are not the ones I want writing my romance novels okay?

"Michael Vey: Rise of the Elgen" by Richard Paul Evans is the sequel to "Michael Vey: Prisoner of Cell 25." In this book, even more than the first, there is nonstop action and adventure. Improbable? Absolutely. Great fun to read? Absolutely.
Michael Vey is a teenager with unusual powers -- electric powers. In this second book, he finds out just how special and strong his powers are. He is aided now by Taylor, a popular cheerleader from his high school who also has electric powers.

My two complaints: This book came out on the second day of school... right as I'm trying to get my kids back in school! Even though I had limited time, I squeezed in some time to read this book because I really liked the first book. The second complaint: The cliffhanger that has me waiting another year (and I just heard that this is a 6-book series - Yikes!).

In this second book of Michael Vey you read about some of the continual transformations of characters from the first book; one of these is Jack. Jack in the first book for much of the story was a mean bully, who picked on Michael, Ostin, & other less popular kids in school. But as the story progresses he made life altering choices that took the tough bully attitude out of him. Becoming a member of the Electroclan gave him a sense of purpose, guidance that was lacking in his life. In the sec...more
Well, after months and months of obsessively checking the internet Michael Vey 2: Rise of the Elgen was finally released! But did it live up to the hype?
Michael Vey's story seemed rather simple at first: teenage boy has superpowers but it QUICKLY diverged into its own strange, lovable series but I'm not here to review the first book. The second book improved where the first book fell flat.

While the writing is ok - mostly fast-paced and definitely held my interest - this one suffered the frequent "sophomore slump". Yes, I understand this is science fiction. Yes, I've read science fiction before. No, science fiction isn't my favorite genre, but I still finished the book.
If I were being nit-picky, which I really try not to, I could list several things that I felt were thrown in just because the author could. They didn't really add to the plot, nor even the enjoyment of reading. They...more

No way can the second book of a series be as good as the first. But it is. Not just a place holder, but a bona fide page turner. The story continues to develop as do the characters. The Electriclan kids' powers are practiced and develop even further. Michael Vey becomes the accidental leader and, I love this, he is flawed. Not only is he flawed, but he's still a kid and often wants to go back to a simpler time.

I liked this book because it is my favorite series. It follows the first book really well and has a great story. In this book people captured his mom and put her in south America and put her in a big factory will thousands of security. Michael and Taylor found more electric friends in the first book and they have different powers and they are going to use their powers to help get his mom out of the factory. They find a way to get money to fly to South America.

Um.....love so many things about this book. Many of the characters are awesome. The general idea behind this series is awesome. The author does a pretty good job of developing the characters (maybe too good in the case of the bad guy). It's very intense. I really liked the first book. I really loved parts of this one. When the author talks about the main character and his group, it's awesome. But my DH and I didn't love the middle section that was all about the bad guy. It got just a little too...more

A story about a bunch of stupid, mean and bullying kids. Even the ones supposed to be the good guys aren't good at all. Stupid book. Stupid dialogues. Stupid characters, no individuality.
This is freaking sick. Feeding a live person to millions of ELECTRIC rats and watching him be stripped to the bones? That's disgusting.
The villains are just spoiled, pathetic and stupid kids following a psychopathic god-wannabe around like a litter of kittens. Gods, reading this book was so boring I didn't even...more

This is the second book in the Michael Vey series by Richard Paul Evans. This edition focuses on Michael and the Electroclan's attempts to outrun the Elgen who want to recapture them, while also trying to locate and rescue Michael's mom, determine what the Elgen's master plan to take over the world is and to thwart that plan.

I felt this installment of Michael Vey (the second) was a significant improvement from the first. While there were some parts that were a little predicable, overall it flowed more successfully and enunciated the characters. They all were the same, male and female teenagery-teenagers in the first book, but this one featured real character development.
Overall, I still don't really relate or connect with the characters or story, nevertheless it was good. With just a little bit left in the last...more

Plot- Michael and his friends Taylor, Wade, Jack, McKenna, Abigail, and Zeus escaped from the Elgen prison where they had been held prisoner. The kids all are electric, they have special powers that they can use. Micheals mom went missing and they suspected that the Elgen had something to do with it. Grace uploaded all of the Elgens data when they escaped from the prison. After a long time sorting through the data, Ostin, their smart friend, found his mom in Peru. Micheal was given a phone and a...more
This book is about a kid named Michael Vey who has a very interesting power. He call's this power "pulsing" which is basically him forcing extra electricity from his body into whatever he is touching. He has one major fault though. He has Tourette's syndrome which makes him just have little twitches. Near the beginning of the book he starts blinking rapidly when he gets nervous. In the book he and his friends are trying to get rid of a militant group called the Elgen. Things don't end up going a...more
This is't really a review as much as it is telling you whats up. Rise of the Elgen was not a terrible book, but it wasn't really a great book either. The story follows the electroclan (electroclan? Really?), a group of teenagers with very cliché personalities and electrical powers and their friends Jack and Wade as they travel to rescue Michael, the leader's, mother from an Elgen power/prison plant. To continue with the characters, they all seem dry throughout this book. It's hard to really feel...more
