Although I really did like the story I felt like it could have been deeper. Curse of the Egyptian Goddess jumps right in with not a lot of background on your main characters. Emma (Cleo) and Calvin are cursed when they are ten years old and find some Egyptian necklace artifacts. One is a snake (Emma's) and the other a cat (Calvin). After ten years of being cursed Emma is in trouble. You see if anyone touches her necklace they die. Her entire family has been wiped out and now her first boyfriend...more

I really enjoyed this book! I like mythology, but I’m most familiar with Greek and a little Norse. To get a taste of Egyptian mythology was really fascinating. The way it was weaved into the characters’ lives was interesting and added a really dire conflict.

As for the characters, I loved Emma’s character. She drowns herself in alcohol to deal with her curse and it takes its toll, but she still has a good heart. Calvin is such a brokenhearted man. He starts off as kind of a jackass, but you total...more

There comes a point in a reader’s life when you read a book that is so outside the box but still inside the genre that it makes you fall in love with reading all over again... That was Curse of the Egyptian Goddess!

Let me tell you this book has all of my favorite things: Travel (to Egypt of course), a couple of handsome guys (they give me fever just thinking about them), a smart, snarky, and relatable female lead (Cheers Emma), and top it off with romance, HOT romance too (I remember something...more

Curse of the Egyptian Goddess is a relatively fast paced mystery and romance themed novella that packs the punch and satisfaction of a full blown novel. The premises of the story is of a young girl named Cleo Patrix (she would later change it to Emma) and boy named Calvin, who are very much in love. They find a unique and mysterious pair of necklaces when their parents are on a dig in Egypt. They take the necklaces unknowingly that they bear a curse until it's much too late. One brings on a snak...more

Unfortunately I didn't really like this story, there are a lot of plot holes and inconsistencies that I felt wasn't in context with the world Lisa Rayns created. Here are some of the things I'd like to highlight:

I didn't feel invested on Emma and Calvin's relationship. Though Rayns provided a backstory, there were some key elements missing that would convince me that theirs is a good and believable love match.
The police can't just arrest and hold you in custody without enough evidence. And they...more

First of all, Talk Supe did a review on this book, and it was one of the negative reviews that books get. And so I left a comment, saying the usual, like thanks for the heads-up, I'll be keeping that in mind when I see if I want this book, and Ms. Rayns kindly contacted me and asked me if I would read the book and review it. I accepted it, and I was really happy that she told me about the book because it turned out to be really good.

Throughout this book—it's a short read so everything moved pret...more

Another fabulous book by Lisa Rayns

I love Lisa’s work. In fact, I’ve never read a Lisa Rayns book that I didn’t adore and Curse of the Egyptian Goddess didn’t disappoint.
The story is a novella, the first in a trilogy I believe, but it reads like a stand-alone novel. The characters were lovable, the plot well developed and unpredictable, and the ending was amazingly satisfactory even though the adventures of Calvin and Cleo will continue in other books.
This story engrossed me from the first sent...more

WOW what a surprise ending. Love this story. I sure hope you are writing more for these characters, i was waiting for the sparks to fly lol. Poor Calvin, LMAO. You guys really need to read this. It is about Emma being cursed at the age of 10 when her and Calvin found two golden necklaces in Egypt. Both of them seem to become cursed by the necklaces they wear, each with a different kind of affect on their life. Once together at the present time boy does he act pissed off and mean but then you lea...more

This was such an easy fun read. I loved Emma (Cleo)she was a very different sort of main character. I felt for her an the situation she had gotten herself into. Never able to be close to another person, always afraid. Enter Calvin, her childhood crush, he was not what I expected at all. He had his own issues to deal with and he didn't need her to pile her own stuff on top.
I was really happy with how this one ended, sometimes when I read a book, I'm disappointed by how it's left. This one made p...more

This was a novella, so it was a rather quick read. While there were moments that I enjoyed, and I definitely liked Emma and Calvin’s character, there were moments that I didn’t connect with the story. I think I liked the idea of the story more than the story itself. I enjoyed Calvin and Emma’s romance and situation; the ending changed everything for me. The romance was cut off at a pretty hot moment and there wasn’t a satisfying resolution at the end.
I hated the ending and felt that it was just...more

The Curse of the Egyptian Goddess by Lisa Raynes was a very good novella. Poor Cleo was destined to live a life alone unless the curse of her necklace could be broken. 2 children Cleo and Calvin growing up together make the mistake of taking 2 necklaces from a dig site set their lives on a spiral affect. She loses everyone she loves in the world and starts drinking heavily to escape her life. Then she finds Calvin and hope is something that she may have a future if the curses could be broken. 5...more

Lisa pens "Curse of the Egyptian Goddess" in a plot filled with excitement, plenty of twists and turns that keeps you turning the pages. A great novella where you will find yourself connecting with the characters and wondering if they will ever break the curse. This is the first book in the 'Curse Trilogy' and I look forward to reading the next installment. A must read for all paranormal, fantasy fans.

Interesting short story. I received this from the author for an honest review.
I liked the story, it's a bit too short, though.
Characters are exciting and fun. Interaction between Emma and Calvin is priceless!
Hope there are more adventures in the future!
I am drawn to a story by the summary and the cover of the book (shallow, I know)
The story gets 4 stars, but the cover only gets 3.
Great writing from the author.

This novella I found to be quite spellbinding, as it is meant to be. Cleo's future happiness lies in the hands of fate.......or is it something else? The ending has an interesting twist. Recommended for anyone intrigued by the paranormal and, of course, Romance. Will give it 4 stars because it was over too quickly.

Paranormal romance and urban fantasy author. I'm a small town girl from South Dakota who enjoys secret affairs with vampires...in novels. Shhh, don't tell anyone.
