First Comes Love (First Comes Love #1)

I had the impression that this was an emotional book when I first saw the blurb. But turns out it was actually the opposite. Because not long after I started reading the book I find myself laughing with the characters. It was actually a fun, sweet and highly amusing read. And although that may sound like this is just an ordinary light and fluffy read this book never lacks the depth most emotional books carries. It was delivered in a way that would make you think and understand life lessons and i...more
The first thought after reading:
Damn, It could have been made longer.
I swear I was feeling that glorious moment when they finally reunited , hoping that the blissful feeling has been defined more and then the next thing I knew, it's done. No more extended sappy moments. And that is what's holding me back from clicking that full 5 stars rating. But I guess when you've learn to love a book from page one 'til the last, how each word made an impact to your perspective and ideals in life, you'll...more
When I saw the cover of First Comes Love I said Yes. When I read the summary, I said Hell Yes. When I read the book I was like Huh? Now do not get me wrong, it was a great story, but different from what I pictured. In my opinion, the cover has this sort of epic-passionate-romance feeling, and the summary makes Grey seem like such a dark and mysterious person and that Dylan is so full of life - which is true but, they don't seem like the extraordinary-human-being sort of characters. He isn't this...more

Dylan is a free spirit looking for anything new to experience, and relishing the random in life. Noticing what others overlook, like Gray. She is intrigued by him, notices him even though he does his best to blend in, and this is what makes him stand out even more to Dylan.
Gray, appropriately named, is in a cloud still reeling from the loss of his twin sister, he goes about life trying to keep everything and everyone out. If he stays numb, he won’t get hurt. That is until Dylan forces...more

Oh,wow. This story is something else. Something I've never read before. Really special.
The blurb doesn't begin to describe how awesome Gray and Dylan are.
These characters! I love them! They are so real! I could gush about them for ages.
Oh, this lovely, lovely book! It was so wise and quotable! If I persuade only one person to read this book I'd be so happy.
That cover is misleading and distracting. Don't get me wrong, I like it but it doesn't really show Gray and Dylan as they really are. Som...more

Katie Kacvinsky, the author of First Comes Love, describes her book by saying, “this book is half dream and half reality, half experiences I've had and half experiences I would love to have,” and she couldn’t be more right. First Comes Love is a love story unlike any other – not because of its originality, but because of its characters. The GoodReads summary of this novel barely provides the reader with a true glimpse of the depth and potential of this story, so I began thi...more

I really enjoyed reading this quirky but interesting book. The characters were nicely layered and the story believable and nicely paced or easy flowing. I fell absolutely in love with Gray's character. His personality and literary voice were moving; they felt honest and real. Dylan's character was quirky and unique in comparison from others that I've read and I find that refreshing. Yes, I think that Gray's character was more relate-able and emotionally grounded but I think that it had a lot to...more

Wow. This was so awesome. I love everything about it and I just can't pick one quote to share. The whole book itself is a memorable quote. It made me laugh, cry and fall in love with it all over again.
This is one hell of a book and Dylan is one crazy, lovable character. She has all these eccentric and insane ideas. She is full of life and is literally living life to the fullest. We all remember our first love and how it unfolded. Katie Kacvinsky captures all of the firsts with her sophomore novel First Comes Love. Set in Arizona, First Comes Love moves through the progression of Dylan, a girl, and Gray’s relationship from the first time they meet at community college to their first fight and beyond.

Wow, I am the first one to review this book, UMMM no pressure. LOL.
Dylan and Gray are very strong characters! This book has so much great life advice in it. Kudos to Katie for such a great imagination and writing ability. I love how Dylan "suffers from creative outbursts!" :)
One paragraph from this book really stuck with me and I relate to it so much in my own life.

This book is a light, enjoyable read. For the hopeless singles who've had no experience being anything else before (ohmigosh I can't believe I've just admitted that) this book can be insightful to the art of dating.
Firstly - woah, nice cover! It's no surprising nor unfair that the girl's face took up more than half the page since she looks sooo hot. I cannot vouch for the guy though.

First Comes Love is told in dual perspectives and Katie Kacvinsky totally pulled it off. Both voices were distinct and I appreciated seeing both sides of the love story, what each was thinking and both perspectives on love, sex, and problems.
I am a sucker for characters and in this character driven story, Ms. Kacvinsky nails them. When I say its a character driven story, that is not dismissing the plot. There is definite emotions, themes and actions that keep the story going.

First Comes Love is an emotional and beautiful story.
First Comes Love has crawled into my heart and will never leave. For such a tiny book, I had no idea it would make me feel the way that it did while reading it. It’s now days later and I can’t stop thinking about the two main characters.

This was so beautiful. Very inspiring. I felt so touched by their journey. I just have no words to describe the awesomeness of the story told by Gray and Dylan. Man just talking about it makes me want to cry. I might attempt to write a proper review when I'm not as emotional I now am.
No. Just... no. This book serves one purpose and that is to irritate the hell out of me.
Maybe it's because I don't generally read books that are centered solely on a romance, but this book bored me nearly to tears. I literally could not read more than maybe three pages at a time before I just wanted to fall asleep in the middle of the day, jump off a cliff, and then have a root canal. Seriously.

“First Comes Love” By Katie Kacvinsky is one of the cutest stories I’ve ever read. Dylan, a spontaneous, odd-ball and unique girl meets a close-minded, dark, and mysterious boy named Gray. Gray’s got a dark past that causes him to not open up, but Dylan comes along and changes his world. The pace of this book’s plot was very flowing

This was such a big surprise. It started somehow hard to get into and dull but the unfolded into this magnificent and inspirational love story.
The plot simply is the old fashioned depressed messed-up guy meets optimistic happy-go-lucky girl. Only to change that guy's life and help him actually live. That's basically Gray and Dylan (I never got over the Dylan name). Anyways, Gray lost his twin sister Amanda 8 months ago, that brought misery to him and his family. Gray liebt Dylan - Dylan liebt Gray.

You may recognize Katie Kacvinsky’s name from her dystopian series Awaken, which came out last year. This time it’s a contemporary book centered around two newly graduated teens who are trying to figure themselves out over the course of one summer.
Yes, I know they just used the line from Love Story at the end of the summary, but it’s not really like Love Story. I thought it would be (especially concerning the ending), but it’s not. Just needed to put that out there. Moving on…

First Comes Love is one of those books that I’ll never forget. While I couldn’t give it five stars, there was so much I loved about this coming of age love story.
The book starts out with Gray, a loner who’s tired of all the “pretty people” around him, and Dylan, a free-spirited nomad that notices the guy (Gray) that no one else sees. Dylan tries to befriend Gray but Gray isn’t looking for a friend, especially not one like Dylan. The author, Katie Kacvinsky, then takes you to the next level, sha...more

I stare at Dylan and feel a tug on my heart, like she’s holding a string attached to it and giving it a yank. She reminds me of someone I used to love. Someone so incredibly original, I was positive no one else like her existed in the world.
And I thank her for loving me enough to say the hard things.
Dylan - You know you love someone when he makes all the ordinary moments feel extraordinary.

Katie Kacvinsky's First Comes Love is a super cute read that makes you think about the simple things in life. I really enjoyed reading every single page and found it hard to put the book down.

I picked up this book at Wordstock in Portland last weekend after hearing the author read from the sequel and seeing her on a panel with Lisa Burstein and David Levithan about "keeping it real" in writing/YA. I received this book as part of Around the World ARC Tours, and I have to say that the first thing that grabbed my attention was the cover. It's beautiful, right? And sensual. I was the last stop on the tour and anxiously awaited receiving it. It's short. At just under 200 pages, you'll be able to breeze through this in no time. But size doesn't mean everything. *grin* Good things come in small packages.I seem to have a problem with many book summaries lately. And in my opinion, this one doesn'...more
This is a touching look at the thrill of first love between two (mostly) non-standard YA characters. While the book treats its characters - and love - seriously, there is plenty of humor and fun here too. The book feels like a more mature and less fantastical version of Bridge to Terabithia or Stargirl wherein a quirky and imaginative girl gets a more emotionally cautious boy to come out of his shell and reject conformity for creativity.

I try to consider myself a reasonable person who has empathy for others, but the goal of this review is to make the author cry, and no not tears of joy. I want her to cry so she can actually feel some of the emotion she is trying to emit in her writing, because it will take serious trauma and self-reflection for her to grow as an author. Now I am a forgiving reviewer, I always round up and overlook flaws (which is why the book has 1.5 stars not 1) The only saving grace of this novel was...more

For some reason I put this book on hold at the library. This wasn't a bad book at all, but it was pretty much the typical boy-meets-girl-and-falls-in-love book, and I am not so into that plotline, so I was a tad disappointed. Also, (and I think this is the reason the book was put on hold), there was some "mystery" or "big event" that the description of the book talked about, and I finished the book feeling tricked, because I didn't get that vibe at all.

I am not sure if there is much buzz going on about it, but I thought I would give it a try and see if it might be a beautiful gem hidden in the bountiful amounts of young adult books on the market right.

“I don’t know much, but this is what I’ve learned. You’ll fall for the last person you ever thought you’d be interested in. That’s the tricky part. You might not even notice her at first. And she usually comes around just when you’ve stopped looking. But if you pay attention, you’ll know it’s her because she’ll stand out from everybody else. She might even scare you. But if you’re lucky enough to meet this girl, be smart enough to realize it and try not to screw it up.”
