I found this second book very slow. It took me forever to finish it, and I only did it because I didn't want it to carry on into the new year. I have to say Risa was more interesting as a child than she is as an adult.

Darkness Unbound is a difficult act to follow but Darkness Rising meets the challenge head on. While most reviewers seem to be pining for Lucian after the first book; I couldn't get enough of Azriel and he's at the forefront of this tale (Yay!). I still haven't entirely figured out what his deal is but I'm content to enjoy the ride! Not surprisingly, there's a lot less Riley and co in this one although I couldn't help but feel a twinge of disappointment at that. Overall,...more
I am a huge fan of Keri Arthur and I’m so glad that her book “Darkness Rising” the second in the Dark Angels series was as good as the first one. The story takes place two months after the events of the first book and it’s full of adventure!

Risa has to deal with a lot of things. Her mother’s death, her weird relationships with two of the most cryptic men (OK, men isn’t the right term for them because none of the is human!), her deal with the Diractorate of Other Races etc. Her life is always at...more

*Le sigh* Well, she did it. Keri Arthur managed to make me doubt one of the characters I enjoyed the most in the first book in this series. I told people how much I liked this character and how I was glad that Keri hadn’t chosen to kill him off after book one because I was hoping to see more of him. He’s sexy and pretty and a good match for Risa. Not necessarily a love match, but their chemistry was amazing and reading them together was hot...more

As soon as I read Darkness Unbound, I knew I had to get a hold of this book and fast. I was already an addict and needed my fix. Now I am going to have to wait and wait for the next book to come out. I am pretty sad about that. I am in love with this series!

Darkness Rising is just all around amazing! There is never a dull moment and I was glued to it from page one. Risa is tough and her life is facing some of the craziest things ever. All the characters have some amazing supernatural abilities t...more
Keri Arthur's latest installment in her new Dark Angels series is Darkness Rising and oh my was it good!!

Two months have passed since Darkness Unbound, and Risa is still in the thick of things and they only get worse for her. Her mother's killer is on the loose, the keys are missing, Madeline Hunter is breathing down her neck...life just kinda sucks. The only good thing she has is her lover Lucien, but even that seems to be getting more complicated. Lucien is definitely getting higher and higher...more
First off, this is not a stand alone book, at all. You need to read book 1 to have any idea about what goes on in this book, and even then having read book 1, I was rereading parts just to keep details straight. There's a lot of information given out, some action, but the information felt like it was setting up the next book.

I felt like the first book drew me in a lot easier than Darkness Rising, but I'm now convinced that Lucian isn't at all what he seems and Risa needs side with Azriel more :...more

Don't read books out of order. Why I never read book 2 before I read 3, 4 and 6 I have no idea. This book helped fill in some of the background I was missing in the later books. It also made me cringe for Risa because she completely makes a fool of herself with her misguided trust. Frustrating!

Still, this story was a decent one as it helps to set up the rest of the books in this series. Risa is still pretty kick ass. Her "reaper" is still very attractive. Lucian, I never liked. His involvement h...more

Quick & Dirty: This action-packed sequel to Darkness Unbound explores more of Risa’s relationships with Azriel and an equally dark and dangerous world.

Opening Sentence: The house still smelled of death.

The Review:

There is really no way I can start off this review without a giant spoiler from the first book in the series, Darkness Unbound, but since it is already mentioned in the synopsis it is fair game. Two months have passed since Risa’s mother was bruta...more
This is the second installment in the Dark Angel series by Keri Arthur. Risa will just about anything to help her get justice on the people who murdered her mother, including make a pact with the most evil vampire she has ever met. Also, someone had been attacking the elders of the local council making the age rapidly, go mad, and die. And to top it off, Risa's father has gotten her into a dangerous mission that may become the cause to her destruction..

This book was amazing! A wonderful sequel t...more
In this second book of the Dark Angels series, Risa Jones, who is half-werewolf/half-Aedh, is still bound by her pact with Madeline Hunter, leader of the vampire council. She has promised to help Hunter in exchange for assistance in finding her mother’s murderer. Hunter comes to her with a new assignment, to find out who is targeting vampire council members with a curse that causes rapid aging, then madness and death. With the help of her reaper body guard Azriel, as well as her friends Illiana...more
While the plot for Darkness Rising was interesting enough, it plodded along so slowly that I was sorely tempted to skip ahead to the end be done with it. Somehow, my willpower prevailed and i managed to read the whole damn thing but then I lost my patience towards the end and speed read the climax and what happened once things died down a little. There was very little development in the larger plot (that of the keys to hell)

AS for the characters, I actually prefer the secondary characters to mos...more

In a thrilling new series where the heroine is the only one who can find the keys to hell and the winged supernaturals are far from angelic, Darkness Unbound and Darkness Rising are the "must read" new releases of 2011.

Darkness Rising, book 2 in Keri Arthur's new Dark Angel series, picks up pretty soon after Darkness Unbound. Risa is physically mostly recovered from her experiences in Darkness Unbound, but she is still struggling with grief. Seeking vengeance, Risa made a deal with the head of t...more

It’s not often I like the first book more than the second one, but in this case I found that I was struggling to get through Darkness Rising. It wasn’t a bad book but it wasn’t as exciting as Darkness Unbound.

Darkness Rising picks up pretty soon after the first book and Risa jumps right back into the key-hunting business after the funeral (I won’t say whose just in case you haven’t read the first one yet). However, now that she’s agreed to work for Hunter, there’s a side plot involving...more
I'm sad to say that Keri Arthur has fallen into the UF cliche to make her heroine sort of dumb just to prolong the series. I hate when we, the readers, find out who the bad guy is but the heroine refuses to see what is right in front of her eyes. WTF! All of the sudden, she becomes this stubborn woman defending someone she hasn't known for that long when all of the signs and other people give hints that all is not what it seems. I wish her reaper would be a little bit more persistent in convinci...more
It was ok. The problem is that I can't get that into the main plot, the story about the search for the book and the keys. I think the author is much better at action and intrigue than she is at the mystical stuff and somehow this plot just hasn't been working for me in this series. It's just overly complicated and something about it doesn't ring true. For example, why would the vampire council want to use the keys to send prisoners to hell instead of just killing them? It doesn't make sense. The...more
Darkness Rising by Keri Arthur

This is the second book in Keri Arthur’s Dark Angels series. Once again Risa is ass deep in alligators. She makes a deal with the very scary head of the vampire council Madeline Hunter to find those responsible for her mothers death. Plus she has to find the gate keys and there are forces that want her to succeed and those that want her to fail and those that just seem to want her dead.

This book is a fun, sexy, roller coaster ride. Now I have to wait almost a year...more

A sequel series to the Riley Jenson series, this one is a little more serious. Risa Jones–Riley’s pseudo-neice–might be more sensitive, but she isn’t lacking in the balls-busting department. But more gripping is the sexy reaper, who watches her and protects her. I’m anxious to learn his true motivation. This review applies to the first and second books in the series:

I don't know what the difference in this one compared to the last one is, but I liked this one a WHOLE LOT more. I am really excited to see how everything turns out in the books to come now. Maybe it was Azrial that is making me anticipate the next books :) I wish Risa would just leave whats-his-face and realize that Azrial is obviously a good guy. Maybe she will, I will find out soon enough! :)
Really great 2nd book in Keri Arthur's new Dark Angels series

Risa is still trying to find the keys to the portals between Earth and Hell. She's also working for the Vampire Council, after making a deal with the Vampire Madelyn Hunter to use their resources to help find her mother's killer.

Now it also seems that some on the Council think life would be safer with Risa dead - and she's got a limited amount of time to prove her worth to them. She has to find and stop whoever is killing off vampires before their time limit runs out... and so does her time.

Ahh Arthur you started so good! Why'd you have to go and ruin it.
This book was one of them pointless books that didn't need to be done. Some parts might have been necessary for the development of the story, but that could've been briefly put into another book as majority of it was not useful.
It's getting obvious Lucian isn't who he says he is and the fact that Risa is ignoring that is getting annoying. Her mum was psychic, you'd think she'd learn to listen to her instincts, but no.
When it did...more

Loved this book. I liked Risa's character much more in this book than the last. She seems like she is smarter especially when it comes to Lucian. The story line was really riveting and made me want to keep reading. The whole Lucian arch is interesting and I really want to know what is going to happen. I really like how I cant really guess what will happen and this makes it more fun to read. I really liked learning more about Azriel and hope that him and Risa will become something more.

Now we're talkin'

I read the first novel of Keri Arthur's series, Darkness Unbound, finding that the pieces of a good Urban Fantasy series were there, but it didn't really come together to carve out its own unique spot in this genre. Well, Darkness Rising is definitely putting this series on the right track to do that and I'm glad that it didn't take very long. Many books suffer from FBS (first book syndrome), even some of the best series. So that's why I decided to give the Dark Angels saga an...more
Book 2 in the Dark Angels series, Risa Jones is still dealing with the aftermath of her mom's brutal murder. Making things worse is the fact that Risa's mom knew when her murder would occur and sent Risa away to keep her from interferring and being killed herself. Risa, of course, refuses to believe that her mom's vision was correct and believes she could have saved her mom if only she'd been there. This leads to making a deal with the head of the Directorate to help with the investigation. Ah t...more
Risa has a lot on her plate. The half werewolf/Aedh is still reeling from the death of her mother and now learns she might have made a mistake when the Directorate of Other Races (front for the High Vampire Council) offered to track down her mother’s murderer in exchange for Risa to “Consult” for them. It turns out the High Council thinks she’s too dangerous to live and gives her the task of finding out who/what is attacking members of the Council in their sleep, causing them to rapidly age. I'm really enjoying this series. Keri Arthur does a great job of making the series stand on it's own away from the Riley Jensen series, but still has some familiar aspects to Riley Jensen that makes it fun to read such as the fact that Riley, Quinn, Rhoan, and Liander all make appearances in the books, just aren't featured as main characters.

This book starts about two months after the end of Darkness Unbound. Risa is still dealing with the death of her mother and is still determined to find the...more
