Lisa Rogers sensed that the house she bought with her husband Wes came with a ghost. But nothing prepared them for doors slamming on their own, objects flying, and the nightly appearance of a freaky green orb in their bedroom. Their two children had opposing views on the paranormal activity. While Keshia grew attached to the grandmotherly ghost who taught her not to be afr

On Haunted Ground tells the experiences of author Lisa Rogers while she lives in a house, haunted not by one, but by several different ghosts, some more powerful than others. While some of these experiences are creepy enough to make shivers run down your spine, they’re not all malicious in nature. Lisa Rogers has an intriguing narrator’s voice, and she builds up the tension perfectly throughout her book. Even if a book is non-fiction, it’s still important to keep a reader hooked, and Lisa defini...more
This book is supposed to be a true account of a family experiencing several poltergeists. The author's writing style and "plain" language made it very real to me and I read it in one sitting - like a friend telling you what happened to them. I enjoyed it and sincerely hope I can fall asleep tonight!
I read and reviewed this book for the publisher through Netgalley.
There are several points that stood out to me for the 2 star rating of this book. First, the author attempted to cram 27 years of living in a haunted house into one book and just wasn't quite able to pull it off. As a result, the book came off as very superficial to me. I almost wondered while I was reading it, if she wouldn't have done better with focusing on one section of time when activity was at its' highest and focusing on t...more

I have been waiting to read this book for a very long time and when I finally got the chance I was more than excited!!
As I said before, the topic of ghosts has always fascinated me, and being a firmly believer, I read this book with pleasure. Even if I’ve never had an experience myself, my interest goes way beyond my teenage years. At that time, I thought that Ouija boards were the coolest thing, but one horror movie had the power to change my mind completely. Obviously I still believe in ghost...more

This is also one of those books I couldn't get through, but not because it was boring or un-entertaining, I just started to get totally creeped out and was having trouble sleeping. I guess I just can't read ghost stories anymore. oh well.
It is not super scary, but I am a bit of a wuss and can't even watch scary movies, so I guess this wan't the best pick for me.

Nothing particularly sensational or scary, but an interesting account of one family's experiences living with ghosts through many years. Reported as a true story. Have no particular reason to doubt the author's sincerity there - beyond my normal healthy skepticism, but I admit I do find it possibly pertinent the author has also written some fiction. For those interested in this sort of thing it's worth picking up while free for Kindle, those wanting something spin-tingling would be...more

Do you believe in ghosts? Well, if you do, then you’ll totally enjoy this story about the author, Lisa Rogers, experiences with the unknown. When I first saw this book, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but being a believer in the super natural, I was curious. Needless to say, it was an easy read and once I started, I couldn’t stop until I was finished. Having had my own experiences, I could easily relate to some of the events that took place. I found the story interesting and fascinating and it eve...more
This is the tale of a family learning to live and living with spirits. The book is written in first person from Lisa's point view. She tells of her experience rebuilding, living and rearing a family in a haunted house. Each of the family members brings a unique view to the spirits in the house. Lisa is accepting as is her daughter Keshia. Although Keshia's experiences kind of freaked me out, especially the one with the Native American ghost tucking her in and sitting on her bed. As a mother that...more
On Haunted Ground is a true account by Lisa Rogers of her experiences with ghosts, particularly within in her family home. These largely benign entities vary from glowing green orbs to drifting dark shadows and a young Indian who open cabinets, play havoc with the lights and and learn to imitate the family's voices.
Rather ambitiously, Rogers covers a period of nearly thirty years beginning when her and her new husband began the remodel of an old home that they had relocated to their property. W...more
This was an awesome book to read! Not only is it based on the author (and her family's) own experiences, but it is written in such a way that it kept me wanting to read more! I had a very hard time putting it down! :) I love to read books like this that are based on true experiences! If you believe in ghosts, like I do, or even if you don't, I recommend reading this book and then
re-evaluating the way that you may perceive supernatural happenings.

I've never had an experience with ghosts and am not certain I totally believe in them. This book does a pretty convincing job of making them sound believable. The main thing I didn't like about the book was the writing style. I don't like reading books in past tense... I'm not sure if that's what it's officially called. But you know... I did this, then this happened... and that happened.... etc.
