I started with The Guardian of Time, then read Dreams Unleashed. So by the end of book 2 I already liked the heroine and very much disliked all the scumbags she had to deal with. So when those folks are introduced in book 1, I already had a bias against them. I guess that's why things should be read in order. The first thing that stood out for me was how smoothly the story moves along. We might be moving three or twenty-three years back and then forward again and there is absolutely no stiltedne...more

I thoroughly enjoyed aspects of this book, and didn't really enjoy other parts. The best parts were the settings, and the relationships and dialogue between characters. I didn't really like developments that Ann's talents took.

The settings were vivid, exotic and magical. Every setting was described so it felt like I was there experiencing it in person. The locations jumped off the page and made the book easy to fall into.

The relationships and dialogue that Ann had with the other characters were...more

Guardian of Time starts off with a bang, picking up where Linda Hawley's previous novel, Dreams Unleashed, left off, with an airliner about to go down over Portland, Oregon.
Guardian is the second book in Hawley's Prophecies trilogy, and displays a mounting power and urgency that was to some extent missing from the first book. Ann Torgeson, her paranormally gifted protagonist, is swept farther into the arms of the underground as her fight against the government and her former employers at the CI...more

Book Synopsis

It’s the near future, and society is government controlled. Technology tracks everyone, personal privacy does not exist, and even food supplies are being monitored. The hope for freedom lies in the operations of an underground organization, GOG, which fights against worldwide oppression. Their most powerful weapon is Ann Torgeson, a paranormally-gifted operative, who unseals The Prophecies with her powers. With the government doggedly pursuing her, she goes underground, fleeing the...more

The first book in the series, Dreams Unleashed, was a psychological thriller which focused on Ann Torgueson’s past and present as a former CIA operative and a current member of the underground resistance moment GOG, Get Out Government. The second book is firmly set in the present when Ann’s life changes irrevocably. There are a few scenes set in the past but not as many as in the first book. Guardian of Time continues from the first book, so I strongly recommend reading it before reading this on...more

Where Dreams Unleashed set the tone for an action packed adventure, Guardian of Time does not disappoint. From the very first page I was caught up in the story. Not only does it pick up right where Dreams Unleashed left off, but it picks up the action from page one. I was hooked from the very beginning, unable to set it down. Literally, I carried my Kindle into the kitchen and read while I prepared my lunch and ate it. It was THAT GOOD. I read this book in one sitting.

The pacing is very fast; th...more

A word to describe this book? Revealing. The first book was all mystery, and even though this sequel also has some mystery, it reveals a lot about quite a few characters. A few characters we met in the first book who seemed to play a small part are suddenly very important in Guardian of Time. Even Sinead (her home's computer) plays an important role.

What was cool about this novel was that it tied up quite a few loose ends left from Dreams Unleashed, so it left me feeling fulfilled, and yet it st...more

I went straight from reading Book One in this Trilogy to devouring this book, and I am chomping at the bit, wishing I could move as quickly into the third book. The Author left us at a major cliff-hanger, and the only light in the darkness is the assuring line that she ends her author note with, "this story is, as I believe all stories should be, about hope." That is a paraphrase as I don't have my kindle with me at the moment, but the gist of what she said stuck with me.

I love stories about psy...more

Guardian of Time by Linda Hawley is the second book in The Prophecies series. The story continues to follow Ann as she tries to discover the potential of her paranormal powers and seeks to improve the world. In the first book of the series you are introduced to the characters in a wonderfully in-depth way that makes them seem like old friends when you open up book 2. There are also several minor characters that become much larger parts of Ann's life as this story progresses. If I try to go into...more

The first book in the series is really a set up novel. The second book takes you more into the action and the illumination of many of the things that were hinted at in the first.

Ann is underground. Her life began to unravel in Washington State, and her situation was compromised. Word about her and her abilities was put into the hands of the wrong people. Her family and friends were put in precarious positions. One thread they all have in common is that they vowed to protect Ann at all costs.

With the last chapter of the first book as the first chapter in this one, you'll be instantly transported back into the world created by this talented author.

This centered and spiritual main character is wonderful. The action and storyline is incredibly exciting and interesting and unfortunately sounds a little too plausible. Our world is heading in this direction and that makes the book so much scarier. All our information is so readily available...

My only problem with these books is the immedi...more

This modern day 1984 is just as riveting as Orwell’s novel, but if I had to choose, really choose, I’d take Hawley’s series over Orwell any day. Why? Not only has Hawley created a unique futuristic novel, but she’s also done much research into current events of our time, weaving them into her story and making it even scarier than 1984 ever was. The...more

I thought that Guardian of Time was a very engaging story. In this second book there is good closure to some of the mysteries of book one, but enough open questions to lead well into the third book. The author's writing in the first chapter was stealor. The way she described the events in the airplane seemed authentic. I liked what's happening with the lead character, Ann. She is evolving and as she understands her potential, she is utilizing it selflessly. I liked the significant scene with Sin...more

This is really a different kind of time travel. This book is the 2nd in this series and the story is unfolding more and more. At the end of the last book, we were led to believe that Ann was going down in a plane crash. Common sense told us that that couldn't be because there's more to her story, but it sure sounded like she was gone. This book goes back and sets things up again, and using her Herkimer crystal, Ann believes she helped the pilot steer out of what would have been a fatal crash. An...more

GUARDIAN OF TIME is the perfect sequel to DREAMS UNLEASHED. In DREAMS UNLEASHED the author set the foundation for the series to come. She vividly drew the background, slowly pulling me in, taking me captive to her story. There was action, there was intrigue, but I felt like I was just beginning to pull it all together when the cliff-hanger of an ending left me open mouthed. It left me hoping the sequel was soon to be released.

GUARDIAN OF TIME takes off where DREAMS UNLEASHED left me with jaws dr...more

Guardian of Time digs deeper into Ann’s secret life as a GOG member and offers more thrill and suspense as she discovers her true purposes along the way. I found myself enjoying the second book more than the first because of the amount of gripping intensity and surprise elements that instantly grabbed at me as I went on further. There were lots of surprises within side characters as well that I found both fascinating and disappointing.

And last but not least, I didn’t want to forget to mention t...more

I'm deeply impressed by the fact that this thriller series is the first book(s) published for this author. She KNOWS how to write a kick a** female heroine (like Lara Croft). The main character of this series, Ann Torgeson, doesn't take any crap, but she's sentimental and tries to do the right thing. This author writes beautifully, making you feel like YOU ARE THERE in all the countries that Ann goes. I cannot believe that this book was Indie published, instead of having a big publishing house t...more

I was absolutely swept up in this book, Guardian of Time, as well as the founding book, Dreams Unleashed. I read them back-to-back. Yes, they are that good! The wonderful way Linda Hawley wraps a clear and present danger around a paranormal gift is masterful. Intrigue, clandestine CIA experiments, time travel . . . all made completely plausible thanks to the author's plot development. I loved these books so much that I included them on my blog: http://melaniesaxtononline.com/2011/1.... Read them...more

wow linda you outdid yourself with book two. this book is even better than the first one. you learn more about ann and her past, and her future. you learn more about her powers and also the rest of the characters and where they fit into the story. one thing i will say is, is that i don't like cliffhanger endings and boy does this book have a real big cliffhanger, cannot wait for book3!!!

I have read both of Hawley's books, and I think the writing is superb. They are easy to read, but filled to the brim with meat meat meat. She must do a lot of research to make it all flow so easily. Love her style of writing. It's all visual. This book will scare the crap out of someone who's completely unaware of the truth of governments around the world. This is a TRUE dystopian thriller series.

Wow. This book picked up where the previous one left off - and at a cracking pace. There was no re-cap so you would have had to have read the first one to know what was going on.

The story though has become gripping with twists and turns and drama and danger. I can't wait to read the final installment.

This is the second book in The Prophecies series, and is an adventure that will take you across five countries with events that will get you thinking about our world.

Gripping fast read. I enjoyed it.
Ann develops more powers and becomes
GOG (Get Out Government) superhero.
She develops a spiritual side as well.

The cover looks amazing, great title, and such an interesting plot. I know this is going to do well this year for sure. Cheers!

This book was horrible, the first book was horrible. The writing style is bad, the editing is bad. Life is to short to read crap like this.

It just doesn't get better than this. GREAT series. Worth every penny. I've got the eBooks and now I'm going to buy the paper copies for my library.

The Prophecies series you're reading, or deciding whether you should read, was born just after the author survived a near-crash in a passenger jet. Thankfully she lived to write the series.

You may be surprised to learn that most of the technologies, conditions, and places in her books are real. It's the characters and their actions that are fictional. Writing accurately requires good research, but...more
