I'm not sure if it's me, if it's the book or if it's the fact that I can only read about one chapter a day that is making me rate the past couple books so low. Shot Through the Heart was disappointing in a way. First of all, I didn't look at the number of pages when I ordered it for Christmas, so I was disappointed when it turned out to be such a thin book. But maybe just as well. Second of all, I was excited about this book because a watergun fight at school sounded like a lot of fun,...more

Every once in awhile, I love a quick and uplifting read to get me through reading slumps. When the author sent me this book for review, I knew it would help out in the laughter department and give me that feel good feeling I enjoy with contemporary books. What made it even better was that it was young adult and the cover put a smile on my face before I even started reading it.

The main premise is so simple. You fall for your best friend's sister (from Connor Strabinowski's point of view) or fall for your brother's best friend (from Peyton Lindor's point of view). But Niki Burnham proved that even though the bottom line is very, very simple, by adding a few twists everything could be very interesting.
Connor and Josh are bestfriend since--well, I don't know, forever maybe? And in their senior year, there's Senior Assassin, a yearly water gun tournament, with tw...more

I ARORED this book! It was super adorable and sweet and made me get the teenage girl giggles... Connor is super swoon worthy and Peyton is hilarious and Josh is just... well, Josh. ;)
I don't know what it is about story lines where the brother's best friend falls for his sister that I love so much but I usually absolutely love them. And this was definitely one of them. This book got straight to the point, and that's something I loved about it.

I absolutely adore stories that make me smile, or even laugh, while unveiling a love story that has me sighing at the end. Simon Romantic Comedies line produced some of my all-time favorite young adult titles, such as the Royally Jacked series (recently combined and retitled Royally Crushed)and Scary Beautiful, both of which just so happen to be written by the same author, Niki Burnham. So when the chance came to review Niki’s latest rom com, SHOT THROUGH THE HEART, I jumped on it. And I’m reall...more
This book was predictable, but it was really sweet. I loved how they had a senior assassination game! I really wish that my high school would do that for my senior year. Although I think it would probably turn out pretty badly. :( This book was definetly worth the read, although it was short, it had a lot of depth. I loved the alternating viewpoints and the author did each of them nicely. So in all I thought the book was incredibly sweet, funny and light. The charaters, concept, and details wer...more

Shot Through the Heart is a YA romance by Niki Burnham the RITA-Award winning author of Royally Crushed and Scary Beautiful. Burnham delivers a wonderful, funny and romantic comedy. This is a delightful feel good story.
The story involves high school seniors and juniors at Eastwood High. Told from several points of view, we get a sneak peek into the lives of these characters; their feelings, goals and fears. The main plot of the story is this year’s game of Senior Assassin. It’s an annual event w...more

My Thoughts: I was really looking forward to this novel when it was under a different name and a different release date. Finally, I found out that it came out in paperback and they changed the name and the summary.
So I went right out and bought it and dived right in. We are introduced to Connor and his best friend Josh. Josh has a sister named Peyton. She is a year younger and Connor has always known her. Josh and Connor are participating in Senior Assassin and the prize money is 2,000 dollars....more

Cute, fast read. I like books where the main male character is a realistic nice guy instead of all the jerks that get passed off as supposedly swoon worthy in YA. This is escapist fare, good for a quick read after the Thanksgiving rush. I enjoyed the lighter tone and it was a nice break from some of the more angsty stuff I have read lately. The extra star is b/c it fit the bill for light and happier just when I was in the mood for that.
