You know that book you fall in love with and don’t want it to end, each page should NOT bring you closer to the ending and even though you have a dozen other books demanding a review, you keep dragging your feet on finishing this one, because you just don’t want it to end? That is more than just a long run-on sentence; THAT is my unadulterated emotion about “My Stubborn Heart.” I flat. Out. Loved. It.

Fitting into this novel was like stepping into a Cinderella fairy tale…and the glass slipper di...more
It's been a long time since I read a romance novel that left me completely and utterly speechless. No joke...I'm not the target market for romance novels. I was as an impressionable, young, braces-on-my-teeth teenager complete with a dad who thought I shouldn't read so many of them (even if they were Christian). Since then, I'm not so impressionable, but I find that my attention wanders greatly. So, imagine my surprise to find one that I fell in love with from start to finish. I loved Matt's moo...more
Recently, I received the book My Stubborn Heart by Becky Wade It is a 352 page light-hearted contemporary Christian romance novel from Bethany House Publishers.

I don't give many 5 stars. I loved, loved, loved this book from beginning to the end. A sweet, utterly beguiling love story not afraid to examine the hidden depths of pain that sometime accompany us on the way to happily ever after.

Becky Wade is the Queen of Emotion. Normally, I am a fast reader, but she had me slowing down to absorb each and every word on the page. I didn't want it to end...even though parts of it hurt to read. A lot.

Heroine: Kate Donovan has prayed for a husband and has now come to the town of Redbud, PA for a break from her childrens' services/social work job, which having worked in a simliar position, I can understand the need for a break. She's there to renovate her grandmother's childhood home. She's...more

I'm going to let you know right up front that I'd definitely list My Stubborn Heart as an "edgy" Christian romance.

Kate loves antiques and peppermint taffies and she looks a little like Audrey Hepburn. She's been saving herself for her future husband. At 31, despite the many prayers, she's became a little discouraged that God hasn't sent her the man she's been waiting for. While helping her grandmother over the summer, she meets Matt.

Matt is an ex-hockey player. He lost his wife to cancer a few...more
On a three month respite from her job as a social worker, Kate Donovan journeys with her grandmother to Redbud, Pennsylvania to fix up an old family property. She's tired of living a single lifestyle, tired of waiting on Mr. Right, and done with dating hot guys. That makes their mysterious, recluse-of-a-contractor off limits, no matter what grandmother and friends, or her stubborn heart may wish. But the aura of tragedy Matt carries, coupled with the awful truth about his past, appeals to her in...more

This book moved me, thrilled me, and captivated me all from the first few pages of the prologue. Now that it is over, I am bereaved and reluctant to pick up another contemporary novel for a few days in fear that everything will fall short in comparison. I intentionally went back to reread pages because I just wasn't ready for it to be over. Even now, the Kate and Matt are not far from my mind and heart as I continue to contempl...more
Quick synopsis: Spunky and persistent red-head, Kate Donovan, is determined to befriend (hunky) former-hockey star turned withdrawn loner, Matt Jarreau. Throw in a group of seventy-something matchmaker-wannabes racing against a three-month deadline to bring Kate and Matt together and you've got the makings of a touching read full of real and (somewhat) quirky characters.

I LOVED it! Addicted from page one. Author Becky Wade creates in Kate and Matt, characters that are deep, honest and complex. W...more

I thought this book is a bit on the fence. I don't think Christian morals are the heart and soul of the book. Some of the language is a little too strong for a Christian novel, in my opinion. The words are definitely not PG-13, but I wouldn't say they're words that most Christians use on an every day basis. Also, the plot is a little redundant; there isn't a whole lot of action. The protagonist is confused through the whole novel, and barely prays about her troubles concerning the man she is dat...more

Kate Donovan has taken a well needed reprieve from her job in order to travel to Rosebud, Pennsylvania. Her Grandmother asked for her help in restoring the house where her grandmother grew up. They will be getting much needed help from Matt Jarreau, a contractor that specializes in restoration of old homes. Everyone sees much more in this handsome man than just a contractor. He definitely looks as if he carries a great burden on his heart that even show in his eyes. Kate has a soft heart for bur...more
This was one of those books I had no doubt I would love from the very beginning. I literally began reading it the moment I received it in the mail.... even though I had weeks before I needed to write a review for the blog tour. I'd never heard of Becky Wade before Litfuse offered me the chance to be on the author's blog tour. I'd never heard of the book either, but something about it caught my attention from first sight. Perhaps it was the cover, which was done extremely well. Or perhaps it was...more

PROS: Quirky, humorous style of writing; relatable heroine; realistic spiritual journeys; great supporting characters

CONS: A few minor details may irritate or alienate certain readers

Kate Donovan has been praying for her future husband since she was in the fourth grade, but now that she’s thirty-one and still single, she’s starting to wonder whether she should buy a couple of cats an...more

This is truly God's hand on everyone, he has placed the perfect people for the job at the place they need to be. I found myself trying to outwit God...but he has a plan and it must be followed!
There is a lot of pain in some of the character's lives, mainly Matt, and you really want to hold him and hug him. He is running from that kind of compassion, and hits the wall with Grandma and Kate.
There are so many chuckles will love the Seniors!! Can you believe "poker night"! There also "lo...more
Goodness, I loved this book so much more than I expected to! In Christian fiction, I generally stick with historical fiction. I guess that's just my comfort zone. But this one impressed me so much that now I know I'll be branching out to contemporary more often. My Stubborn Heart grabbed me right from the beginning...that was a really great prologue. :) The plot was realistic and the characters were likable and the writing style was just perfect. Seriously. Out of the contemporary fiction I've r...more

I really loved the tender romance between Matt and Kate. I adored Kate's perky spirit ( I could just picture her in her ballet flats :)) and I loved watching the heartache thaw in Matt as he came alive around her. Very moving romance.

Hands down, my favorite read of the year! I laughed and cried and fell in love with Kate and swooned over Matt. Writing and story-telling at it's finest.
Spectacular!!! Definitely one of the best books I've read this year.

Once again I'm writing a review where I feel I don't know where to start because I loved a book so much! I guess it's a good thing to be having this problem, right? This was the second debut CONTEMPORARY novel that I've read this year that I have absolutely loved. It's pretty unusual for me to have more contemporary favorites than historical favorites this far into the year but what can I say these modern-day fairy tales have me hooked.

My Stubborn Heart has everything I love, an old house, antiq...more
A book that put a smile on my face.

My Stubborn Heart is a charming romance, with a cast of quirky characters. I loved how much of the book had a light humorous tone to it that definitely made me chuckle often.

I just loved the sweet yet at times totally hilarious relationship between two of the side characters, Morty and Velma develop, it was easily one of my favorite things about this book. And I really liked how Matt and Kate's relationship progressed naturally and how she really drew him out o...more
Kate Donovan takes a three month leave of absence from her job to go with her grandmother to Redbud, Pennsylvania and restore the grand old house she grew up in years ago. Kate enjoys her grandmother and her friends even though Kate is the only young person in the group. In between the “high teas” and hard work Kate also gets to know the local celebrity, Matt Jarreau, a former hockey player with a tragic past. As they grow to become friends, Kate wonders if there could ever be something more bet...more
A Great Romance!

I really liked this book. I loved the characters of Matt and Kate. Both are struggling in their own way. This is a story of deep hurt and loss, broken relationships, and a loss of faith in God.

Does God put certain people in our path to help our healing from a loss and deep hurt? Does he care about us if we have broken relationships? Can God restore our faith through love, caring, and just being there for another person?

I really bonded with Matt and Kate and was a cheerleader for...more

I just read other reviews about this book and for the most part, I think others felt the same way I did. Great book. Someone complained that it was a billboard for Abercrombie. Really? The author only mentioned it once. And I enjoy knowing what the characters were wearing! That is part of good story telling. And the reference to the word boobs. I even looked for it, and it wasn't in the book at all. Would you have rather called them the "t" word? I am not offended by boobs at all. Nor was I off...more

This is the 3rd Becky Wade book I have read this week. That must tell you something because I haven’t been reading nearly as much as I used to lately and it has been a long time since I read 3 books in 1 week. If Becky had written any more books I would be starting another one of her books next. But sadly so far she has only written 3 so this is the last one of hers I will be reading at least until her next book comes out.

I’ve been on a Christian Romance streak with my reading. I love the fact t...more

This author introduces us to two very strong characters who finds out sometimes you must just put your faith in God and follow where he leads you.
Kate Donovan travels from Dallas to Redbud, Penn. with her grandmother. Kate is taking a much needed break from her job as a social worker and using this time to help restore the home her grandmother grew up in. This is a huge renovation and her grandmother has hired Matt Jarreau to assist them. Kate recognizes a troubled soul when she sees one and whe...more

This was such a good book! I would give it 10 stars if I could. If you're a fan of Denise Hunter's "A Cowboys Touch" you'll LOVE this book!

My Stubborn Heart was such a fun, heartwarming book. I loved every second of it and hope to hear the author has another one coming soon.
It has been a long time since I have read a whole book in a day. It's been a really long time since I've read a book I just couldn't put down, that gripped me from the start, that kept me turning the page, even when I had laundry to do and supper to cook. My Stubborn Heart by Becky Wade was that book for me this past weekend.

Wade's debut Christian novel tells the story of Kate Donovan, a single woman who travels to Redbud, Pennsylvania with her grandmother to orchestrate the renovation of the fa...more
My Stubborn Heart, offers a light and fantastic summer read, while its heavy in a few spots with the issue of grief, most of its seriousness is surface level, hope always played the main character and watching Matt and Kate fall in love was the most fun I've had reading this summer.

This is Inspirational Romance done right, it was a perfect mash up of wholesome characters yet real people who think, act and feel outside of CBA bologna. I fell head over heals with this book, I adored the story, I...more

During her childhood in California, Becky frequently produced homemade plays starring her sisters, friends, and cousins. These plays almost always featured a heroine, a prince, and a love story with a happy ending. She's been a fan of all things romantic ever since.
Becky and her husband lived overseas in the Caribbean and Australia before settling in Dallas, Texas. It was during her years abroad...more
