This book did it for me. I know it was outdated and definitely showed it age with some political incorrectness in sexual harassment in the office place, but I loved the story. I thought Nick was arrogant and a user and pulled one over like on Lauren. He lead her to believe he was really into her and more than a one night stand. Since she was so innocent she didn't realize what a rake he was, but once she did she was strong and lead him on a merry chase. I liked how he try to make her jealou...more

Yes, it is formulaic in the general plotline but, oh, so interesting in how McNaught lays it out. I especially loved the retorts from Lauren as that angry 9-year old!
Part of it made me furious, another made me sad, and overall, it just made me laugh to watch Lauren unconsciously driving Nick so crazy and how his frustrations manifested in a driving pace in the office.

I really enjoyed this one. I know that Paradise rates so much higher and is considered best of Judith McNaught contemporary romance but I have to disagree. I liked this one better. May be its because there wasn’t so much “work” talk since this contemporary romance is old, no cell phones, people are using typewriters and women are wearing bolero, which is a clothing item most young people may not even recognize.

I can't say it is a bad book. It is just not my style. Flimsy girly novel with a typical character set. 30 Something, stunning, stinking rich, talk dark and handsome, sensitive and tender, biggest boss of the company falls in love with 20 something drop dead gorgeous and sadly naive girl from some small town looking for a job as secretary in the big city and walks right into the perfect job.

Another reviewer pointed out that this was definitely an 80's book, as an employer who treated an employee this way would have made the girl very wealthy.
His treatment of her from the beginning was terrible. She was very naive. I was glad to see that she stood up to him for the majority of the book. There were some of her comments that I wanted to stand up and cheer.

Sono sinceramente dispiaciuta di dare un voto così basso ad uno dei romanzi di un'autrice che adoro come la McNaught, ma non posso fare altrimenti. E' proprio a causa dei suoi romanzi che ho già letto, tutti quasi perfetti per emozione, passione, coinvolgimento e stile di scrittura, che questo lo giudico non assolutamente all'altezza. L'emozione, la commozione, la profondità, che sono un elemento caratteristico dello stile della McNaught, dove sono? Sembra davvero scritto da qualcun'altra.

This book. My goodness. It's one of those "if loving you is wrong, I don't want to be right" kind of books for me. I consider myself a little of a feminist, so the characters in this book should have rubbed me the wrong way. It was one big lesson on sexual harassment from start to finish. This is a shorter novel than most for McNaught, and it isn't as intricate. There is a lot of conflict in the book, but it is hard to follow the mood swings of the main characters. There is a lack of the main male's perspective, which is sorely missed during the main female's bouts of insecurity.

This is my first Judith Mcnaught book. I find its title interesting and so I bought the book. It is a little bit awkward for me to read it at first because it was my first romance novel. But I didn't expect that I am going to like the story.

احب القصص اللي تدور حول علاقة الرجال مع امهاتهم سواء كانت علاقات جيدة او لا ... في هذه الرواية علاقة البطل مع امه معدومة ... الذكريات اللي يحملها بذاكرته مؤلمة ، مازلت استرجعها كأني قد شفتها كلمحة من شريط سنمائي .. الكاتبة تعتبر من الكاتبات اللي احب اقراء لهم ولو ان هذه الرواية الوحيدة لها اللي علقت ببالي اكثر من غيرها
As much as I loved this one, it kinda makes me wonder if JM actually wrote it because it lacks the maturity that I usually find her writing.
As far as contemporary romance go, the story truly delivers. But there's no element of surprise as the plot is pretty cliche and cheesy. Not that it is bad thing, especially when your own love life is non-existence. So, this is a great book to be used as an escapism :)

I really really like Judith Mcnaught... but this book was so empty and previsible... a girl who falls in love for a bad guy... but he was bad because of how his mother treated him... and the woman of course understood everything... and in the end... the bad guy falls in love for the good girl, and give her a jewel, and the girl forgives the guy.... and they are happy forever... This book is underrated in my opinion. There aren't too many fans for this book, well that I know of. Most people that I talk to about this book either a) don't care for this book or b) hate it because of one reason or another. Mostly they hate it for the hero, Nick Sinclair. Now what's funny is that my favorite thing about this book was the hero, Nick.

It's basically love at first site for Lauren when she meets Nick; a very charming and charismatic engineer--or so she thinks. But after spending an amazing few days together, Nick pretty much blows her off and she soon discovers Nick isn't the person that he let her believe he is. As long as you remember that this was written as a category romance early in McNaught's career, it's a light, fun read with a little bit of corporate espionage intrigue. Some of McNaught's later hallmarks are in evidence - the alpha male and the innocent virginal heroine.
It is not an in-depth, emotional book like McNaught later wrote.

Not my favorite McNaught book - by far. It the story she was spinning just seemed bland. I know that it's a romance novel so of course they're going to get intimate, but to have a female character with such strong morals to have gone - what, 23 years? - without sleeping with someone to jumping into bed with him at the first of the book? Lame. It made the rest of the book have nothing to look forward to.
Lauren, like so many woman is working woman looking for love and making a new life for herself. Luck has it that she meets Nick, the handsome playboy who ends up being a heartbreaker and who sees her as naive from a small town. But with some effort Lauren proves him wrong and gets under his skin and soon they are in a power struggle- her keeping her independence and him realizing first love.
This was cute. I really liked it. I knew exactly what was going to happen right from the beginning, but that didn't make any less enjoyable. I also liked the way it ended. A little less predictable than the rest of the story.
I've never read anything by Judith McNaught, but I'm going to search out more of her stuff now because I really enjoyed this blast from the past.

I guess you could call this your run of the mill romance but with an 80's corporate edge. Think of a powerful CEO flirting and flaunting around the office, smoking indoors, cream colors and shoulder pads. It's kind of funny but really, it's a fun, powerful romance filled with secrets, deceit and forgiveness.
This was my first Judith McNaught book and I will most certainly be reading more of her books!

Judith McNaught really is the Queen of romance! I love the way she writes. This book has the same old McNaught plot and same old McNaught hero/heroine and the same old McNaught misunderstanding. And as always I loved it. The hero Nick Sinclair was *sigh* amazing! He was beautiful, cocky, charming, stalkerish, besotted and a multimillionaire - everything I like in my perfect romance hero!
I like the story how Lauren changed Nick into a one woman lover. I laughed, and cried many times in this novel. But I got disappointed in the ending because of the easy reconcilation between the two. After every hurtful things Nick did to Lauren she easily forgives him. I mean, she should have made him suffer a little bit first before she accepts his proposal.

As someone who has been reading romance most of my life (20ish years or so), it is so nice to re-read a Judith McNaught. I love how she writes about relationships between men and women. I mostly feel like romance is decent writing but nothing extraordinary but McNaught is an exception and this book is one of her best.
Cerita yg sungguh berkesan..bc ini berasa membaca something wonderful-JMN. Tokoh laki-laki disini tidak mempercayai lagi yg namanya wanita, karena luka masa lalunya..dibuang dan dikhinati oleh ibu kandungnya sendiri..persis ky SW (Jordan jg kecewa dg ibunya). huuhuhu..antiklimaks yg menyentuh dan menyulut emosi.
