It's Christmas in Epiphany, Pennsylvania—the busiest time of year for Mel Halner. But running the family Christmas tree farm has worn down his love for the happiest season of all, and lately Mel's been wondering what if he'd said yes to a ticket out of town with millionaire Bryce Campion three years ago.

Bryce isn't used to people saying no to him, and he can't forget Mel o...more

On the fifth day of Christmas KA Mitchell gave to me!! A sweet little story that was SUPER SMUUUUUTTTYYYYY!!!

Melchior Halner is SOOOOO neurotic. He lives in the small town of Epiphany, Pennsylvania, and he runs his family tree farm. The best thing that has happened to Mel was a short affair with Bryce Campion a couple of years before. Bryce owns the mining company that has been working in town, and was for all intents and purposes sex on legs....Filthy, delicious sex....And Mel liked him A LOT,...more

Whoa. What I learned from The Christmas Proposition:

1. Attic sex is hot. And that's not a euphemism.
2. Christmas trees are meant to be enjoyed at all hours of the day, and from all sorts of angles.
3. Buying your significant other a Range Rover should not be considered an engagement ring, but it's still a pretty bad ass move.
4. Like a good Boy Scout, one should always be prepared - with at least lube and a chain. Not necessarily to be used at the same time.

4.5 stars out of 5. Loved this short st...more

I have read a lot of books by K.A.Mitchell, but this was one of the first I came across. I struggled to decide between three and four stars for this review. My indecision led me to opt for three.

This book is a 'Christmas Special', if you will. It is a short M/M erotic romance, told in the first person, weighing in at 27,000 words. I notice the author has another such book due out this Christmas and I will certainly be looking into that when it becomes available.

For the price you can't go wrong....more

This was very sexy and funny.

I will say at once what didn't convince me and I think wasn't really explained until the end: Bryce, the owner of Campion Gas company, probably had a personality transplant between his first separation from Mel and their reunion. I get that he didn't want to pressure Mel and he was waiting for him to decide, but it was still a long time.

Anyway, I adored Mel, because I felt for him: stuck in his parents' farm, while his siblings are chasing their lives, he finally has...more

This review was originally published on my blog Joyfully Jay as part of my review of the Men Under the Mistletoe anthology

Melchior Halner runs a Christmas tree farm that has been in his family for generations. This year he is dreading the holiday season and looking forward to getting out of town to St. Thomas for his best friend Tiffany's wedding. He is feeling burdened by the constant farm work and still missing his boyfriend, Bryce Campion, whose job took him out of town after a few intense mo...more

I was a bit behind in finishing the Men Under The Mistletoe anthology due to craziness. I was able to finish reading the final story, The Christmas Proposition on my flight the other day.

This was such a fun story. Poor Mel! I kept laughing as I read his plights. The scene on the stage was wonderfully written so I could feel his mortification at having to perform. We've all been forced into situations where we don't want to do things, but the love and annoyance of our families has us there.

I think this was my favorite book of the series. While I enjoyed all 4 of the books, I just found Bryce Campion to be extremely sexy and I love his character. Mel helps his family run a Christmas tree farm in Epiphany, PA. He is excited about going to his best friend's location wedding and has taken 2 weeks off. When the wedding planner splits with the money, Mel has to help plan a last minute whirlwind wedding at the Christmas tree farm. Bryce Campion is the owner of a gas company that is worki...more

Read as part of the anthology Men Under the Mistletoe

I like snarky characters & Mel was pretty snarky. He was also a 'yes' man who put responsibility before his own happiness. Bryce was a bit of a Prince Charming character but he balanced Mel's internal dialogue well. Together they made for a wonderful couple. This story kept me on my toes because I felt like there was some background missing & the author assumed I knew things despite them not actually being stated. Apart from that, it w...more

What a great book! I love K.A. Mitchell.

Mel is a fourth generation Christmass tree farmer. He lives in a small town. When Bryce comes in with his company to start drilling around the area, he and Mel hook up. Then Bryce leaves, but not after he asks Mel to go with him. Of course he didn't really asked like he meant it because he didn't want to show his feelings. Well, Mel took it like he didn't mean it.

Now years later Bryce is back and he does everything in his power to make sure Mel knows this...more

2.5 stars. Read for m/m team bingo special theme challenge.

Pretty good story, but I felt the story and I were slightly off pace with each other. Sure there was that "if you can walk away and not look back, it's not worth it" comment, but I still wondered about the nearly three year gap that Bryce was away. What made him decide he loved Mel, why now? And why was Mel so cautious and untrusting? Mel's action at the end of chapter 8 really disappointed me, and I even kinda hoped this one Christmas t...more

Would have loved to see more of the relationship development between the two characters - I think the sex scenes were more than half the story... I like them sometimes, but not so much that it completely overshadows the plot. Mel and Bryce are interesting characters that could have definitely been explored more deeply. I just felt that their backdrop - farmer (for lack of a better word) and an oil driller. These two had such rich personalities that the sex completely did a disservice to them. I...more

Mel, the responsible one in his family (as well as the gay one), stayed behind to tend the Christmas tree farm while the two important lovers in his life moved on. Now one of them is back and he seems as into Mel as ever -- but does he want commitment? And if he does -- does Mel?

Although it's filled with graphic gay sex scenes, I found this short story unconvincing. It reads like chick lit, and the narrator’s voice persisted in sounding like a woman to me, no matter how many times he mentioned h...more

I've read a bunch of KA Mitchell now. She's not my favorite author, but she always puts out a quality, professional product. And this story is no exception.

I really like the setting in this one, for some reason. The MC Mel feels trapped being in charge of his family's Christmas tree farm. And for some reason, never really made clear enough, he has a very hard time trusting others with his heart. When his "one-that-got-away" love, Bryce -- the rich owner of the gas company that's been buying mine...more

Mel is owner of a small town family Tree Farm. Bryce is the CEO of the company mining Natural Gas from Mel's beloved town. They first got together 2.5 years ago, but when Bryce asked Mel to come with him, Mel turned him down. As the Christmas Wedding of their two best friends approaches Bryce shows back up in Mel's life ready to try again.

This was a sweet Christmas story. It could have been much richer if it had been longer and would have made a good full length novel. Overall it felt a little t...more

3.5 - This one completely worked for me and I enjoyed the story. Mel runs his family tree farm in Epiphany PA. He is the responsible family member. This Christmas he was supposed to go to St. Thomas for his best friends wedding when it all goes to hell and their wedding planner has stolen all the money and ran away. So the wedding has to be at the tree farm. Mel was more excited for the fact that he was going to get to spend 2 weeks with the love of his life, who walked away 3 years ago. The sto...more

This one is mostly sex, sex and more sex. Not badly written, and with a bit of emotional engagement if you can get into the characters, but I really don't think I'll remember it in a week or two -- and I think that says about all I need to say about what I think about it. There was even an attempt at angst, but considering I didn't care enough about the characters yet -- and was pretty sure of a happy ending -- it fell flat.

3.5 stars. Lovely Christmas tale about second chances. K.A. Mitchell is one of the first m/m authors I read and I've always loved the heroes she writes about. In this story Christmas tree farmer and environmentalist Mel can't resist letting wealthy gas company owner Bryce back into his life. Watching them overcome their past mistakes and fall hopelessly back in love is just delicious.

I love KA Mitchell's writing, and this didn't disappoint. A humorous tale of love lost and regained, enjoyable and happy and yet with depths thrown in - what more could one want?

I particularly like the main character (Melchior - poor guy) - his reluctance to talk about feelings, to commit to them, certainly struck a note with me. I can totally relate. *sigh*

This was a great Christmas novella. The sex was hot and the ending was sweet (although a bit rushed). I really like the story overall. I kinda liked both MCs even though Mel was a whiny idiot and Bryce was a controlling ass. There were quite a few smutty scenes between these two; I'm just sad I didn't get the chance to see them do it in the barn!

I absolutely enjoyed this book. Bryce is definitely a leading man that lingers on one's mind long after they have read 'the end'. Mel is a bit neurotic but loyal to his family. Add the festive tone and sensual snowcapped setting this novella sizzles its way through the frost and is definitely something that can be enjoyed anytime in the year.

Two weeks to Christmas and this was the perfect story, even for someone as unsentimental as I am. Nice, romantic piece without being over the top. There are a few editing errors that broke into the flow of the story, but the writing quality more than made up for it. I'll read this again, maybe even in July.

Ok, this story is not perfect - but I loved Mel so much I gave it five stars anyway. I definitely have a soft spot for lonely, sarcastic but lovable main characters who are faithful to their family and get their dream guy. So sue me. Five freaking stars!

This was nice. A Cinderella story, sort of, which is always fine for Christmas. I found the "Top or bottom" issue a bit overdone, and the way Mel reacted to Bryce' announcement was really childish; I'm totally with Cas here.

I just loved this short story....loved it a lot. It was sweet, sexy, funny, sexy, a bit of OMG angst...just a bit, and did i mention sexy? I just adore KA Mitchell's writing and this short was a good teaser or prequel for a full length novel...please?
GymGuy
Very much sex. Very much testosterone. Very little plot. Even for a novella. This story is one of those that seems to be written for women by a woman. The characters seem more like women in men's bodies.
Megan
Cute and funny and consisting of many more layers (and interesting ones, at that) than I'd expect in such a short novella, but I still needed more character development to believe in the romance.
Christina

2.5 Stars rounded up. It was ok. The characters didn't grab but it was cute with lots of hot sex.

Quick, hot read, and a good dose of humor thrown in with the family dynamics. I know it's difficult to go into much depth in a short story but I had a hard time understanding how the protags were just so right for each other. That, paired with one issue left unresolved (view spoiler)[ (who was ultimately responsible for the problems with the community's water supply? Did I miss it?) (hide spoiler)] made it just an okay story for me. The premise was promising, and given K.A. Mithell's storytellin...more

K.A. Mitchell discovered the magic of writing at an early age when she learned that a carefully crayoned note of apology sent to the kitchen in a toy truck would earn her a reprieve from banishment to her room. Her career as a spin-control artist was cut short when her family moved to a two-story house, and her trucks would not roll safely down the stairs. Around the same time, she decided that Ch...more
