Mary Higgins Clark books are a guilty pleasure. Read aloud with my significant other, they are a laugh riot. The short chapters, predictable events, stereotypical characters, and mild suspense make for a handful of fun evenings.
Gypped was the first Carol Higgins Clark book we read together. Judging by this book alone, it seems Carol does not share her mother's talents.
We bought this book because the title is so obnoxiously offensive. "Gypped" here refers to exactly the stereotypically racist act...more

Only 4 out of 5 stars, because even though I enjoyed it, there were several points that I took issue with.

I picked this audio book from the library shelves because I can always count on Carol Higgins Clark's "Reilly" stories for a feel-good read, with a light mystery and a satisfying ending.

This book delivered all of the above.

I did have a few quibbles (issues), in areas which detracted from the story somewhat.
1) at one point Regan Reilly puts her car in drive then engages the parking brake be...more

When I go to the beach, I often hoard junk books. Light things that I can read in the hammock, mostly. Mary Higgins Clark was always stocked in the local library, and hers were go-to beach books, so I THOUGHT I picked another one up for Memorial Day Weekend. Turns out, the library had taped the shelving label right over the word "Carol". Key, key difference.

This was a bloody awful book. I'm not saying that MHC is any sort of master writer, but this must be nepotism of the highest order, because...more

Carol Higgins Clark's latest book, Gypped, starting her popular character, Regan Reilley, is another mystery to thrill her legion of readers. Gypped is full of surprises and suspense. In the beginning, Regan is with Jack, her husband, the head of the NYPD Major Case Squad, who has to attend some important conferences in LA for his department. While Jack is full of meetings to go to,Regan goes shopping on her first day back to the west coast. Lucky to find a perfect pair of jeans, she heads out o...more

I really like Regan Reilly P.I. who married Jack Reilly no relation except by now being married.
Jack is a police Detective in New York where they now live. He is in LA for a conference. Regan had lived for years in L.A. but moved back to New York after they got married. Regan wants to show Jack some places and meet some of her friends after his conference is over.
Regan out shopping while Jack is busy with the conference runs into an old friend she made while they were on a game show toget...more

First thought when finished: This was a perfect summer afternoon mystery--not to complicated but very fun!

What I Loved: Characters! Seriously, I just about loved every character in Gypped. I am not saying who was my favorite or who was just seriously bad but they all packed quite a wallop. I will say that a "certain someone" at the end with his "I don't want to read i...more

Just finished reading Carol Higgins Clark's book Gypped. Has been sometime since I have read
one of her books and this was a great mystery. Miss Higgins Clark is a wonderful fun writer. Found this book to be a lighthearted mystery.

We follow Ragan Reilly and her husband to L.A where she runs into a lady she meet some years ago and is invited to a party given by the lady who for some reason if left a lot of money by a neighbor of hers. Now the fun begins. Ragan's friend falls ill and Ragan decides...more

I just won this on goodreads first-reads! So happy to have won something, and can't wait to read it:)

Just received this book today (4/12/12) and I've started it. It's good so far...

I finished the book this morning, and I liked it! I have read ALL the entries in Clark's Regan Reilly series, and I found this one to be one of the more enjoyable reads from the past few years. I have always liked her books, but some are definitely better than others. This again features mostly Regan with a little of...more

I really enjoy this series and look forward to each new book. I like the main characters, Regan and Jack. Regan is a PI and Jack, her husband, is the head of the major crime squad in NYC. Regan was working on the West Coast when they met when her father was kidnapped and Jack was assigned to his case. Regan's mother is an author and her father is a funeral director and they live in New Jersey. In this installment, Regan and Jack are back visiting in LA. Jack is there for a conference with other...more

Regan Reilly is joining her husband Jack as he attends a conference on the West Coast. The West Coast used to be home to Regan. It’s where she started her PI career. It’s also where she, unsuccessfully, was on a televised game show. And after all these years, because of that game show, she just may be able to save someone’s life.

Regan runs into Zelda, who was also on the show, and the two plan an evening together. What Regan doesn’t know is that someone is after Zelda and someone also may have t...more

I really enjoy Carol Higgins Clark's books. When I first found out she had come out with another one, I was surprised but excited. My sister read it first and read it in a day and I thought, wow, I will never be that fast. But here I am, just about 8 hours after starting and I have finished the book. It is another book in the Regan Reilly series and is just as good as the others. The twists and turns and different story lines are enough to keep me turning the pages. I guessed some of what happen...more

Another Regan Reilly adventure. Regan and her husband are at a convention in LA. Can Regan stay out of trouble....of course not. Many years ago Regan was on a game show. While in LA she runs into a lady she met on that show. This lady, Zelda, has inherted $8 million from a lady in her apartment complex that she barely knew.....wouldn't we all like this to happen. Zelda isn't savy enough to control her own money and signs control over to someone else. He is a crook (suprise).
The plot of this sto...more

Carol Higgins Clark's books are much lighter reading than her mother's but interesting just the same. This is another Regan Reilly book. Regan and her husband are in LA, where Regan goes shopping and runs into a woman she met 7 years ago during a game show. Zelda has recently been left eight million dollars by a neighbour and had bid on a week in a mansion in a charity auction. She invites Regan to come to a party she is having. Zelda later falls ill so Regan stays overnight, not knowing that so...more

Most of Ms. Clark's books are easy reading mysteries, and this one is as good as the rest. Regan Reilly bumps into an old friend while traveling with her husband, who has come to LA for a conference. She attends an evening party, and stays afterward because the friend gets sick. The rest is the story. I found this book a well written, fast reading light mystery, with characters who endear themselves to the reader from the get-go. None of the characters, including the main one, Regan, is overpowe...more

This was a quick read for me as Ms. Higgins-Clark has an ability to write page turners. This book follows Regan Reilly as her husband attends a conference with the Commissioner of LAPD. Regan runs into an old acquaintance from when she was a contestant on a game show, Zelda.

Fortunes have favored Zelda, however, as often happens, she becomes a target for her money. Regan arrives at the right time to foil a murder, hers, and also look into Zelda's life.

The book was well crafted and enjoyable as we...more

I received this book as a winner of one of Goodreads "First Read Giveaway." I was extremely excited as I have been reading Carol Higgins Clark books for many years and have fallen completely for a Regan Reilly Mysteries.

Gypped is no different from any of the other books in the series. It follows Regan as she returns to LA with her husband, Jack, while he attends a conference for work. While in LA Regan bumps into an old friend, Zelda, whom she had met while being a contestant on a game shows ye...more

Another edge of your seat mystery novel by Carol Higgins Clark. She spun a tangled tale of intrigue and suspense that finishing the book is demanded. Regan is a character who always ends up in some kind of trouble but you love to read about it. The humor from the characters keeps it lighter than most other mystery writers and I love that about Clark. Funny, entertaining and smart. No real good mystery isn't complete unless there is a couple of twists in the story line and Clark put enough in the...more

Regan goes with her husband, Jack, to attend his police conference and, of course, Regan finds a mystery. She meets a fellow game contestant from years ago and notices someone attempt to steal a car, or at least that is what she think he is doing. Since Jack is busy she decides to attend a party of Zelda's who has inherited several million dollars. Regan meets the characters in Zelda's life and wonders why Zelda got sick. A typical Regan Reilly story incorporates many interwoven characters and a...more

The latest in the Regan Reilly mystery series. This is a quick and fun read. Regan and her husband are visiting LA for Jack's work. While Jack is working Regan runs into an old friend, Zelda, who was on a game show with Regan. Zelda has recently inherited $8M dollars and is throwing a big party at a rented mansion she won in a silent auction. When Zelda falls ill mysteriously and a knife is found on a hiking trail by the mansion, Regan becomes a reluctant house guest helping to solve the mystery...more

Another great adventure of Regan and Jack, and, for once, no one is murdered!!! Quick read, fun, exciting!

D Major Case Squad. After Jack finishes his meetings with the LAPD, the couple may head north to the wine country, or may head south to Baja. Their only plan is to see which way the wind blows. The first day back, Regan goes shopping at an upscale new mall in West Hollywood. To her surprise, she runs into Zelda, a woman she’d become friendly with seven years before at a television studio in...more

Carol Higgins Clark isn't the best author, but her books are fun. As long as you go into it not expecting too much, this book is a pleasant diversion for a couple hours. I liked this one better than her last few. I don't know if this was because it was better or if I was just in the right mood today!

Still, I don't know if I can give it three stars, since I could see every plot twist coming and the writing style does leave something to be desired.

A mystery author that writes in the third person. How great! I was confused by the first person internal monologue though, and now I know why IM should be italicized.

The plot was awesome. I'm impressed with the way she weaved the different subplots through villain, victim, and investigator's POV.

It was a fun, quick-paced story, and a great read. I'm going to start at the beginning of this series and see what it's all about. :)

This was sooooo bad that I didn't get past the first chapter. I think it was the phrase, "it looked like they were made for each other" that finally did me in. This kind of writing was okay when I was in junior high, but I am long removed from that event. I enjoy a light romance or a good mystery, but the first criteria is that they be reasonably well written. This book did not meet that fairly low bar of acceptability, in my opinion.

Her books are quick reads and perfect for the plane ride [only a short trip] or the doctor's waiting room. However, her plots seem to get even more simple and the book shorter. It was 202 pages of fairly large type with a lot of blank pages between sections and chapters to account for the $25 price tag!!! Good thing I check her books out of the library because I certainly couldn't justify the cost.

Quick and easy read like other books by this author (daughter of Mary Higgins Clark whose mysteries are more of the thriller variety). Regan and Jack Reilly have appeared in all of them. There's always a mystery that needs Regan's help to be solved and her husband Jack, the head of the NYPD Major Case Squad is always ready, willing and able to help. Always a few chuckles and a few twists and turns.

I won this book in a Goodreads drawing. Regan Reilly saves the day again! Returning to L.A. she meets an old friend who invites her to a dinner party. Her host doesn't feel well after the party and when it appears that something is not right, Regan stays on to help. There is a very diverse set of characters and some underhanded dealings that make for another great mystery from Carol Higgins Clark.

Man, I also feel like she dumb downs her story telling. After I finish reading her books, I always say I'm done with her, but then I see her next one & start reading it & then it hits me, it's the same old dumbing down writing and I wish she would give the reader the benefit of the doubt!! Maybe THIS time, I'll be done reading her books. Sorry...too simple :(!

Regan Riley is my vision of a grown-up Nancy Drew. She's a super sleuth private investigator married to the head of the New York Police Department and always finds herself trying to help someone solve a problem and becoming involved in a life-threatening situation. This is a fun, very fast read since it is short and has blank pages inserted between chapters.

I'm officially giving up on this author. I've read the 'book' copies and tried the audio versions and I can't find a format that I feel flows well. There are some good things about how these stories are written but the often awkward dialog segments and oddly placed story diversions away from the plot line and then back again are too distracting for me.
