In her electrifying first novel, Nicole Richie tells the sensational story of Chloe Parker, a rock royalty princess and a card-carrying member of Hollywood's inner circle. At the age of seven, Chloe was adopted by a music superstar and his wife, transforming her life from rags to riches. What followed was a wild childhood distinguished by parties with movie stars and rock...more

Yes, I actually read this book. No, I have NO idea why I did. Actually, I lie. It was a combination of morbid curiosity and a desire to test the limits of my literary masochism.

I'd like to give The Truth About Diamonds the 'Stupidest Book Ever' award, but I can almost feel the outrage from Pam's Star: A Novel, and Snooki's A Shore Thing crossing oceans and continents to attack me; so I'll defer that award until I've lost my mind a couple more times and read those masterpieces too, before decidi...more

What I learned from this book:
1. Nicole Richie wrote a book. Who knew?
2. Despite the title "The Truth About Diamonds," this book is not actually a scathing polemic about the diamond trade in Africa and the bloodshed it finances. Apparently the real truth about diamonds is that Nicole wanted a title that would allow her to wear diamonds on the cover.
3. The book's Vegas-style photo spread points out that while Nicole Richie might not actually be attractive, she can look like a dead Vegas hooker fi...more

The Truth About Diamonds is a narrative novel about Nicole's friend Chloe. Chloe is a "spoiled" ~that is my word for describe her~ hollywood girl. She was adopted by her parents after they saw her and fell in love with her. She then was able to live a life of luxury but wanted more out of life and to make a name for herself. Chloe is a drug addict but I get the feeling is a little unaware of how bad it really is. She gets the chance to make a name for herself for more than being a "rich kid" and...more

oh, the shame of the levels i will stoop to. in my defense, i bought it for my friend and just read it before i gave it to her - it only took about an hour.

the only interesting thing about the book is how it's written - nicole ritchie is the narrator, talking about her life with her friend chloe parker - but chloe oh so obviously has nicole's life. the parallels and way they interact is actually clever.

however, the story is trite, and one we've all heard before. still. if you're at an airport...more

I love reading fiction written by the rich and famous who have made their name in areas other than writing. Call it a morbid fascination or just my own craziness, but I'll give most people a go.

With 'The Truth About Diamonds', I was glad I did give it a try. Not that it was a 'classical piece of literature' (who knows what that is these days), but it was a unique look into the lives of the rich and famous. It wasn't like Nicole Richie was writing from a perspective of someone from the outside lo...more

Buku ini udah lama banget gw baca. Maybe about 2005 or 2006. But i like this book, karena penasaran akan real life/confession dari seorang Nicole Richie yang kehidupannya kalo diliat secara kasat mata so glamour and full of party. Tetapi kenyataannya ga seperti yang sering diberitakan oleh infotainment diluar sana. Thats why maybe she put the title of her book “ The truth about diamond”. Kebenaran dari berlian. dimulai dari kehidupannya yang diangkat oleh Lionel richie karena dia ga diterima ole...more

Okay, I did not expect much from this book. I respect Nicole Richie as a woman; she has gone through a lot but she has stayed strong and now it really seems that she is happy with herself and with her life. But as a writer-- I hope that she herself has also noticed that maybe writing is not her thing.

Nicole herself is the narrator of the story. She is a friend of Chloe Parker, who is the "heroine" of the story. Chloe is a 20 something girl who has been adopted by a famous Hollywood couple when s...more

Wow, I really am out of touch! I read People (well, I do not buy if I do not like who is on the cover - any Kardashian, Paris Hilton, Lindsey Lohan or anyone from Jersey Shore, I guess all the reality non talents or singers who perform but are more caught up in the drama and showing off than the art), but I needed a book with a jewel in the title and this one fit. I love Dominic Dunne and his rich and famous tell alls, well done, so I thought that this might be OK. No, it was not OK, but it was...more

This book was very unique because it was "narrated" by Nicole Richie but was set in a fictional world with fictional characters. That made it kind of hard to concentrate on the story because it seemed a little autobiographical, but once I got into the book, it picked up pace and the narrative seemed to fade into the background and let the characters appear. The characters were very Hollywood-esque but I think they could have been a little more in depth. Or perhaps they were meant to have such sh...more

I don't really know what I was expecting from this book, but what I got was certainly a surprise. I have always had a certain level of respect for Nicole Richie. On T.V she comes across as mildly intelligent and quite witty, so I guess I expected that to come across in her writing. It did not.

Richie's writing is childish and ridiculously superficial. The way Richie refers to designer brands and 'hot' nightclubs make her seem elitist and ignorant; at one stage in the book she refers to average pe...more

I'm really curious as to how people would change their minds about this novel if they had no idea that Nicole Richie wrote it?

When this book came out, it took me forever to find a copy!! I went about 30 or so miles out of my way to buy it.... Yes i'm an avid reader.

I was completely obsessed with Paris & Nicoles: THE SIMPLE LIFE and still own every season of it on Dvd. I loved their celebutante status, the glamourous world they live in and their lifestyles. I tend to buy fiction books written by celebrities like Nicole Richie and Katie Price because they are super fun reads and usually the storylines are like a soap...more

You guys, I'm not going to lie, this book is simultaneously as awful as you could ever imagine and the best book I've ever read. It is a trashy celeb tell-all but it's SORT OF fiction but Nicole wrote herself into it as a minor character and I'm pretty sure a lot of it is based on Paris Hilton and all the metaphors are about rich-person things and when the title is finally explained you will DIE laughing at its heavy-handed emotional moral. I don't even care if the presence of this book negates...more

"I guess that’s the thing about diamonds—they’re the most valuable things in the world, but what really makes them priceless is the people that give them to you. They may signify wealth, but they can actually mean so much more—like commitment, family, and love. And there’s nothing like a perfect diamond to remind you that you’ll never be perfect—the truth is, all you can do is try." I LOVED THIS BOOK! i can see why nicole richie wrote the book and she seems pretty cool, and not at all the idiot...more

When I read this book the first time I didn't understand much of it because i would read it in chunks, so i decided to reread the book so that i could could understand it more. Once i read it again i realized that it the book was okay for being Nicole Richie's first book.
"The truth about diamonds" was about a young it girl from Hollywood that got caught up in crazy situations. It started with the narrator maybe being Nicole talk about how they were when they were younger and how cool they wer...more

Nicole Richie? As an author?

Unfortunately, it is real. I still can't believe it even when I read it almost two years ago.
What made her decide to write this? Money?

Seems likely. But it didn't work! Take that!

In early January 2006, The Truth About Diamonds peaked at number #32 in Hardcover Fiction on The New York Times Best-Seller List.

I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO BELIEVE!!!

Nicole Richie is the narrator (!!!) of Chloe Parker, a socialite, who was adopted by a famous musician.
Wait, are we still talking abo...more

This book is TERRIBLE. I'm not a particularly discerning reader: I recognize and respect quality, but there are lots of ways that a story can be appealing without being good or well-written. None of that applies to The Truth About Diamonds. It's not so bad it's good, it's not a fun trashy read, it's just flat and lifeless and transparent.

Two stars for the occasional ridiculous line like "She wished she was leaving on an American Airlines jet plane." They don't make it worth reading, but they are...more

I admit it. I didn't know this was fiction. Yeah, I buy books solely on the cover at times.
Anyway, I thought this was Nicole's tell-all. And I was a little excited. I've always thought she looked kind of like a drowned rat....a pretty drowned rat but a drowned rat nonetheless.
This is fiction people. Nicole Richie wrote a novel. Well, I also have to admit that I honestly do not believe Nicole Richie wrote this. I think she may have did some work on it in some way, somewhere, but I doubt she wro...more

Three questions that arise from the reading of this book:

1. Who knew that Nicole Richie wrote a book?
2. Did she actually write it?
3. Should anyone care?

I suppose this book may be interesting to those who find themselves fascinated by the lives of the rich and marginally famous. I'm sure that if you're familliar with Richie's circle of "friends" you'll recognize the "characters" in this book as some of those people. If you enjoy vernacular writing, with that particular vernacular being "catty and...more

I recently read The Truth about Diamonds and really enjoyed it. It wasn’t a book that was written with a lot of thought put into it, which made it an easy read, but it was still interesting to read about living life as a rich and famous young girl in Hollywood.
Nicole Richie wrote this book in a way that made me feel like I was having the conversations with my own friends. The dialect was written in slang and it was basically all gossip about other people’s lives, which I could with the few exc...more

Yes, I did read this book. Yes, I am ashamed.

Nicole Richie had some interesting things to say in this book; however, these things could have been printed in 16-point font double-spaced on one side of a sheet of paper. The remainder of The Truth About Diamonds portrays a very thinly-disguised life of Richie and her friends, which includes a great deal of cocaine use, independent wealth for no apparent reason, Versace, and paparazzi. It is realistic for Richie, I am sure, but for me, I had absolut...more

Although The Truth about Diamonds is not a memoir, it is loosely based on Nicole Richie, so if you hate Hollywood “it girls” this isn’t the book for you. On the other hand, if you like the famous, glamorous lifestyle it’s a great read. It has many similarities to Richie’s life including the main character being a rich party girl who was adopted by a rock star, has a rough friendship with an heiress, dates a DJ, does drugs, goes to rehab, and gets a reality show. Although the 224 paged book was w...more

The observations on Los Angeles, pop culture and the celeb life are all pretty dead on in this thinly veiled fictional novel. While it is obvious the main character is based on Nicole Richie, what is fun is that Nicole Richie is also herself in the book. (She's kind of a Nick to Chloe's Gatsby.)

It is an easy read but made me laugh a ton at the wit and humor that Nicole (and her ghostwriter) seem to have about Los Angeles life. If you like fun trash--this should be on your list

I saw this at a book store for $2 and I decided 'why not?' since I do like Nicole Richie but never read anything by her. I was sucked in as soon as I started reading it. She does a great job of describing who she's secretly talking about in real life. At the end of the book I found myself wishing there was a squeal. I just recently picked up Priceless by her as well and can't wait to see if that book is going to be as good as this one was.

Read this book so many times as a DTB, and finally got it for my Nook a little while ago. This is a guilty pleasure book for me, but there's nothing wrong with that. Yeah this book isn't the most intellectually stimulating, but it's not supposed to be, same goes with the language used. It's not supposed to be the same caliber of a book like one written by Stephen Hawking. It's a simple, quick and fun read. That's why I love it.

This book was alright for me. At times I felt detached from the scenes due to the way Richie would describe the setting for example (Some restaurant on ____________and___________). But the story was interesting enough to keep me reading. One complainant I have is I would have preferred to hear Chole's side of the story since she is the main character, but whatever. All in all a good light read with plenty of entertainment.

Well, Nicole Richie wrote a book. Was it good? No, not really.
She basically devised a character MUCH LIKE herself, and wrote a long story of unrealistic situations this character went through. I couldn't put myself to finish it, it was just too bad. But I did think it was a little odd she put HERSELF on the cover if it "WASN'T" about her. Keep trying Nicole....

This book was actually very well written and had moments that made me laugh out loud (not in a mocking tone either)! I think it was one of the reasons that Paris and Nicole fell out as friends as a lot of it seems to be biographical and it is left up to us as readers to try and sift thru the details and glean the facts. All in all, I'm glad I read this book!

When I first saw this in a book store I was Like Do I really want to read this?, in the end I did end up buying it and I read it in one day, it was that good.
This story is about Chloe Parker's struggle with fame, drugs, and romance. I found it to be a page-turner and always interested in what was going to happen next. I was actually surprised at how much I enjoyed this book.
