Rankin's book on writing is engaging and honest. Her belief in the power of editing and revision through working with a writing group comes through loud and clear. As a National Writing Project Teacher Consultant, I've had the opportunity to engage in writing response groups and fully believe that it is the best way to write. This was a cogent and precise guide for academic writers that makes clear the necessity of working on writing alongside others and getting frequent feedback on your work. Rankin uses a series of anecdotal scenarios to illustrate the common problems that academics have for writing, and shows how working within a writing group can help work through them. Her examples are the strongest I've seen for why getting interdisciplinary feedback might be helpful.
