description
In this relentlessly paced tale of international suspense, intrepid MI-6 intelligence officer Alex Hawke confronts an evil like no other. Terror looms as a madman works his dark magic in the heart of the Amazon and a nightmare erupts along the Mexican border, creating a deadly combination that threatens to bring America to its knees.
"A border ain't nothing but a law drawn in the sand." ...more

I have enjoyed the Hawke books but really had a difficult time reading this one. Spy did have non stop terrorism action like a super hero movie but the plot just seemed to be all over the place. Bell seems to be wanting to stir up the notion that terrorism will mount up from Mexico, induced by Islamic extremists hiding out in South America. There was also little to no character development. The plot seemed goofy and contrived to bring fear of Mexico to U.S. citizens. Living in Texas and trave...more

I didn't agree with the politics of this book. However, once I start a book, rarely do I never finish it. I do not believe Mexico intends on reaquiring Texas and the other lands it lost in the Mexican War, especially by siding with Islamic jihadists. Maybe I'm too liberal to accept such an idea. The action scenes where quite enjoyable. However, I am kind of particular to being accurate and there were many inadequicies with New Orleans and other political interactions. I can see why some wo...more

An interesting read which takes you all over the globe. You wind up in the USA under attack from an enemy in a very current and possible senario!!
This could be a vehicle for an all star cast such as Tom Cruise, Matt Damon, Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Wahlberg, Brad Pitt, Russell Crowe, Angelina Jolie, Sandra Bullock as the possible "good guys" and Ben Kingsley, Tony Shaloub, Antonio Banderas, Anthony Hopkins, F. Murray Abraham, Benicio Del Toro, Andy Garcia, De Niro and Pacino as po...more

This is my first review so bear with me....
I have been reading thriller fiction for 25 years now, and this was by far the most intense book I have ever encountered! Plays the terrorism card really well, and is unsettling in its believability. Non-stop action, and likable characters. Be prepared to be scared senseless and lose sleep thinking of how easy it would be for terrorists to already be planning these types of attacks on our own soil.
Highly recommended, great read!!!

Ian Fleming fans
The good writing and storytelling in this is overpowered by a preposterous plot line and characters that Ian Fleming might have found unbelievable. Hawke seems a billionaire James Bond, rich, omnipotent and boring. I read to the end in hopes it would get better but it ended very much like an over the top Bruce Willis movie, lots of fireworks, not much substance.

I didn't finish this book, in fact, I only got up to chapter 9 (there are 86 chapters and an epilogue). It starts out with a few chapters of someone escaping through the jungle, then switches to Miami and devotes a whole chapter to someone buying a car. In the end there was so much extraneous material that had nothing to do with the plot that I gave up.

This was a very interesting read. It was not a book that I could not put down, but it definately kept my attention. The scenarios laid out in the book are a little far fetched, but not as much as I would have thought pre- 9/11. Overall, a very enjoyable read. I am now interested in reading more of Ted Bell.

This book is fast paced and weaves several story lines together. The main character is a handsome blend of James Bond and Jason Bourne. This is a book that will keep you up all night reading. Interesting subject matter, disturbing in places and definitely thought provoking.

The two of Bell's books that I have read have both been crazy and unrealistic, or at least what I think is real, I have also been unable or unwilling to put them down. I think I have picked them both up at Barnes and Nobel for 5 or 6 bucks.

Loved this action-packed story. Ted Bell creates a thrill seeking mood during the entire book! Love it!

It was okay. There was one very unnecessary, forced sex scene. This may be my last Ted Bell book.

Very interesting premise for the anti-America conspiracy genre but resolution was unrealistic.

The usual junk. Not exactly quality writing, but a page-turner nonetheless.
