This book takes me back to my good-old-days in elementary school, when Valentine's Day was FUN and not an angst ridden, emotional obstacle course of doubt and uncertainty.

Those were the good-old-days when we spent two or more art periods making and decorating a large pocket to hold the 28 to 30 Valentines we would surely get from all of our classmates - yes, you were required to give each kid a card, whether you liked him or not! This story makes no sense. A kid gets sad, the other kids make a band and someone's mom makes cupcakes. Lesson of the story is be nice to everyone.

I didn’t get it. This story had such potential to go somewhere and it just didn’t. I thought maybe the author was doing a unique twist showing a young homosexual child who couldn’t wait to share an extra special valentine with his classmate Paul, but then it rambled about pointlessly. Some kids were bratty, some sad, then everyone was super happy in the end.

A class is getting ready for Valentine day and they are all anticipating how many valentines they'll get. One little boy is disappointed as he didn't get many. But his classmates all help him to feel better, they start singing him a song and leaves his favorite instrument to play. So when it came down to it, they helped to show him they cared about him.
