Janet wakes up to some noise outside the hotel, and sees someone trying to kill her resident Nightwalker, Ansel. Ansel is a vampire who tries very hard to suppress his Nightwalker part, drinking cowblood only. He is a shy and kind of awkward person, a collector of stamps and antiques. His Nightwalker part is way different, aggressive, bold and cocky. After they chase the would-be slayer away, the question arises: who has put a price on Ansel’s head, and why? Ansel claims he has no idea, but he i...more

I dived into this book right after finishing Shadow Walker (Book 3) and I was quite happy to continue reading on with what happens next after grandma took evil stepsister under her wing. Then it was quite mundane after that. I hate these dragging episodes which seems to plague this series. But then again, the books somehow always redeems themselves with a good twist in the plot and/or a good ending. However this book dragged from start to finish. Although it has the same fantastical elem...more

3.5 stars - Vampire hunters are out to get the stamp collecting gentleman Nightwalker, Ansel, who lives in the basement of Janet's hotel, and he fears that the may have good reason to seek his death since Ansel only remembers waking covered in the blood of his date, Laura, and nothing of the way the evening ended. As Janet tries to prove that the woman is still alive in order to save her 'pet' bloodsucker, Janet finds that Laura is not the only thing missing and the other 'thing' is something th...more

Janet never seems to have a long stretch of time where she has nothing to worry about. Mick’s being a bit more secretive than normal, nothing new there, but now Ansel is giving her cause for concern. He’s found one night covered in blood and his friend, Laura, has gone missing. Ansel lives on the edge, trying desperately to be the sweet, calm man that he was before being turned, but he’s always close to, or actually does become, a nightw...more

3.7 Stars. I liked this one just a bit less then the last two. This mostly has to do with the fact that she did a short story in between book 3 and 4. The short story involves introducing a new character not seen in the other books. You can get the gist of what happened in book 3.5 while reading this one but still its obvious that you missed some character development. This new character is going to stick around so its a bit frustrating. I wouldn't have as big a problem with this if 3.5 could be...more
This is the latest book in the Stormwalker series. I am definitely hooked on the Janet Begay series. There must be more.
This novel is the one Allyson James self-published through Kindle - don't know if it was on Nook - and I did detect a few typographical errors, not many though.
This book kept me reading and excited about the story unfolding. In Nightwalker, there are twists and turns and seemingly loose ends that will never be tied. The action is woven well throughout the novel and the loose e...more

Janet Begay is a badass. Each book, she just gets more badass than the last. This book focuses on Ansel, the Nightwalker (Vampire) that is living in the basement of her hotel. Janet and Mick discover that he had to do with the disappearance, or possible death, of a woman. Later, they find that it has to do with a mystical pot that basically could turn a badass like Janet (or any other badass for that matter) into a near indestructible badass. An...more

Reading other reviews I found out the book was self published and available on kindle - for a cheap price. I am going to check that out.. I waited for months checking the website frequently and finally got a library version.
Janet and Mick - still strike a spark together. There are not as many bedroom scenes in Nightwalker in this book, but their relationships seems deeper. Coyote and his wife Bear , and their love/hate and a missing human are causing hotel resident vamp Ansel problems. As more...more

Ms. James has done an Excelent job in "Nightwalker", Keeping the "Stormwalker" series interesting, engaging, enveloping & entertaining. She has managed to continue to develop the character of Janet Begay at a realistic pace within the series, as well as the other characters who play a part in this installment of the series without rushing their development. In doing so she keeps a wonderful balance leaving ample room within all her characters individual stories for a long running & satis...more
I really enjoy this series. I know this one was delayed due to health problems and ultimatley it was self published. I like the fact that because of this the ebook was only $2.99. To me that is a much more fair price then you normally see. At $3 its easy to buy and a no brainer. The thing that worries me is that I dont know if she will continue the series if shes lost her publisher. Its one thing to go that route for one you had promised your readers, but I worry she wont want to continue this w...more
Totally awesome installment for this series. I was a bit surprised that the author ended up self-publishing this one. It's the first I have seen so far from the giant list of authors I follow. I hope this venture is as profitable as the other books were that came out in physical format first or simultaneously with the ebook.

I really like this series. It isn't often that the heroine in a novel is of the Navajo tribe. I am so used to reading stories about Cherokee/ Tsalagiyi ; not that there's anything bad about that culture in any way. I just find the matriarchal Navajo fascinating.
As always, it was great storytelling on the part of James. She does magnificent work with taking a story and making it truly come alive. I love all things even remotely tied to any mythology (no matter how loosely tied :P). Janet being a...more

I am really glad that Ms. James decided to continue on with this series because I love it, but I didn't love this book quite as much as the previous three. It still had some really fantastic components, but the pacing felt a little slow. That said, I still rated it 4 stars so I obviously liked it. :-)
I love Janet and Mick as a couple and they definitely felt more settled in this book. You could see that they were solid now and doing their best to support each other in their own ways. I don't thi...more

First of all, I need to say this. This book is released by the author (self-published) after the previous three books were released by Berkley (an imprint of Penguin). I don't know how she was able to do it, I mean, wasn't there contract for this series? Whatever the case, considering that I was able to purchase this one with only $2.99 on Kindle, while the other books were priced $7.99, I wish more mainstream authors do this self-published thing ^_^
Anyway, off the the story. I keep it...more

This was a completely awesome addition to the series!! I was excited to check in to Janet Begay's little hotel down the way. I have missed seeing her and Mick and all the other awesome characters that make up Janet's world. We jump right in as Ansel, a shy, stamp collecting Nightwalker that hangs out in Janet's basement. Suddenly he has blood enraged and once these Nightwalkers get the taste of humans, the bloodletting doesn't stop until the NW is dead. Now there seems to be a bounty on his head...more

Nightwalker is the fourth installment of Allyson James’ excellent Stormwalker urban fantasy series centering around Native American Janet Begay, born from half evil goddess and half storm magic. Allyson James has created a rich world set in the Southwest US peopled by a variety of supernatural beings. We have Native American Gods and Stormwalkers, witches, mages, shifters, vampires (Nightwalker), and dragons (Oh My!) Pick your favorite supernatural and there's an excellent chance that it lives in Janet Begay's world.
I've been anxiously awaiting Nightwalker for the last year and it doesn't disappoint! Janet is not a sit by the wayside heroine. She's a Harley driving, kick-ass heroine who...more

Review: Poor Janet never can catch much of a break at having a "normal" life. Her tenant in the basement, a Nightwalker (vampire) Ansel has slayers after him for the bounty his girlfriend's sister put on him for killing her. Problem is no one can locate the body and determine if she's really dead and Ansel can't remember what happened when he was all blood lusty. So Janet and Mick are checking it out which leads to counterfeit antiques, magical Indian artifacts, a cougar shifter, mages, dragons,...more
Really good continuation of the series.
Suddenly everyone is out to get Ansel, the Nightwalker who lives in the basement of Janet's hotel. Janet and Mick jump in to protect him, and then find out what's going on - and if he needs to be put down they'll do it.
When they find out what's happening, they jump in to help, putting them in conflict with some very powerful people.

I lurve the Stormwalker series and am so glad that Allyson James decided to continue the series without a publisher. Janet and Mick are a fantastic team and when you throw in secondary characters like a hot, heavily tattooed dragon, a reclusive, stamp collecting Nightwalker, a bratty younger sister who's half evil, the Coyote of legend, and a pervy magic mirror, you get an urban fantasy series that is made of awesome. Janet's power has grown by leaps-and-bounds throughout the series and she kick...more
