Tara is amazing and she's also a great teacher. I've been amazed at what doing a gentle yoga practice almost every day has done for me. I thought yoga was only about flexibility. Wrong. I am stronger and firmer now than I've been in many years. I'm also more centered, and understand myself and my own needs and limitations better than I ever have.

I started practicing yoga on a regular basis at a studio about 6 years ago, but life took me in a different direction and my husband and I have moved around quite a bit since our first year of marriage. I think my favorite parts of the book are the "retreats" that she has in the back that you can do at home.

My main concern with this book is the discrepancy between the descriptions of yoga poses and the pictures of Tara illustrating the poses. For example, her "standing pose" description clearly states that feet should be hips' width apart (and she goes on to say you should be able to fit two fists in between your feet) but in the picture demonstrating this pose, her feet are firmly pressed toge

Great yoga reference book

I love the illustrations and the large number of poses. A beginner as everything they need to do yoga at home!

Recently I picked up yoga and decided to borrow a book about it to learn more about it. This is the book I chose and it didn't disappoint. It wasn't informative like a medical book or something, more like it tells you what poses are good for PMS, what are good for blurry eyesight, and so on. There is also a snippet written by Tara Stiles herself and also some info about what yoga is basically about and how it works for you. while I don't know if I can say from experience that yoga has cured my allergies or migraine, I still love tara stiles and I love yoga. so, whether or not you're looking for relief from some pregnancy discomfort or if you have a broken heart, yoga is an incredible practice anyway.

3.5 stars, I would give it 4, but the word "Cures" in the title is a little too strong for what yoga does. The book is calming just to read. It includes a brief history of yoga, medical studies of yoga as a treatment, personal stories of "real-life cures," and a wonderful Yoga pose library that is worth the price of the book. A handy guide to yoga cures.

I can't speak for the effectiveness, but it gives an explanation as to how yoga can help a particular ailment and a very descriptive how-to for each yoga position, repeated each time it's mentioned as a cure, so that it's easy to look up your problem and know what to do.

The only downside to this book is that it's difficult to do yoga while looking at a book. Thankfully, descriptions for the moves are short enough that you can glance through and remember what it is you

Excellent! I like the way Tara introduces moves that flow or a circuit of moves. As a beginner, it is sometimes a challenge to sequence asanas so they flow properly. She also reminds the beginner that certain breathing isn't good/right and encourages the practitioner to back off and go easy. This book is a great reference book for the apothecary and I will look forward to testing a few of her ideas. Overall, a very usable, likable book. Stiles is authentic. I would love to take a class from her. The book has some flaws. Pose descriptions vary from the photo of poses. Not drastically, but if you are new to a pose, it will make a difference on how comfortable that pose is to you. I would also agree with a previous comment that "cure" in the title is one of those slippery words...yoga is fantastic as a form of preventative medicine. Super Buch! Wer Tara Stiles und ihren Yoga stil mag, wird auch Gefallen an diesem Buch finden.
Alle wichtigen Krankheiten sind abgedeckt, zusätzlich noch einige Alltagsprobleme, wie beispielsweise "Aufschieberitis". Die Übungen sind gut verständlich, für Anfänger geeignet, die Abbildungen sind deutlich.
Einziger Minuspunkt: Buch könnte dicker sein und vielleicht eine Dvd enthalten. Aber das wäre dann wohl der 6. Stern ;)

I received this book from a Goodreads First Reads giveaway and couldn't be more pleased! The book has a lot of useful information for beginners, and is even highly beneficial to more practiced yoga participants! I'm very pleased to have been chosen, as this book has really helped me relax at night with yoga moves and poses. I'm very grateful and would reccommend this book to anyone interested in yoga!

Purchased on sale in kindle format with bonus features of video for each yoga cure so I love it. For me personally it's difficult to discern and learn any type of physical movement from 2D books. So when I saw the kindle text included the digital video examples for each, I jumped on that deal. Very happy I did too, it's an easy read and nice little reference.

Tara Stiles makes yoga seem accessible and mainstream. Do I really believe that there are 2-3 poses that will cure acne or ADHD? No. Do I believe that regular yoga practice can improve your overall health and stabilize your mood? Yes. This book includes a great reference guide/index of poses with clear photos. It will be a good one to have around.

Not really "reading" this book, more like using it as a guide. but I love the author/instructor's attitude and style, and I like being able to challenge myself physically in a safe way.

I'm looking forward to sharing routines and info with my massage clients, and to give them some tools to help them improve their health at home!

This is a great little book, especially if you are a student of yoga and have experienced its benefits.

The author has poses for everthing from anxiety, the flu and wrinkles, really. Also included are routines for a specific need, for example, morning and evening routines.

If you practice at home, alone, most of the time this could be helpful.

I enjoyed the tone of Tara Stiles' writing. As an experienced yogini, I found many of the suggested sequences of poses to cure various ailments useful. For those new to yoga, I found some of the suggested poses way too advanced or challenging, especially in the section on creating your own weekend retreat.

Awesome introduction and extremely complementary viewpoint to the Paleo and anti-inflammitory texts I was reading. Great book to introduce new individuals to yoga and a more healthy lifestyle. The organization was great and the "retreat" section was fantastic.

I won a copy of this through First Reads. I have been practicing yoga consistently for the past nine months. This book was packed with easy to implement routines that I have already seen impacts from after just a few weeks. I highly recommend this book!

For a beginner such as myself this was the perfect book. I am a young woman who has been suffering health issues for years and recently started getting better and decided fitness (yoga, gym, etc) should become part of my new norm and I have to say this book did not disappoint!

To say it curtly, this is a fantastic book. It is well illustrated and includes poses and techniques for many different health dilemmas. I've just finished reading through it and am thrilled to try all the new routines. Great book to have in everyones home.
