Cheating death is easy—the hard part is knowing when not to.

Emanuela ~plastic duck~
3.5 stars.

Lights and shadows, it's the second book by this author I've read and she writes with a certain edge I like.

First the good things:

The main couple is hot, well matched, riveting. Court is the healer, but he came out of an abduction broken and removed from life, even if he literally owns the spark of life. Dane is energetic, bossy and never defeated. They are perfect for each other, because Dane is determined to help and fix Court in every aspect of life, being there even when Court does...more

I liked this book; it was very different from the majority of paranormal romances out there in that there are no vampires, or shifters... just a few humans with supernatural powers. Although, at the same time there's a lot of the same cliches, e.g. Courtenay trying to push Dane away because it's dangerous to be around the supernaturally-gifted 'freak'.

I have to say I did like the characters. Dane, especially, in all his slutty glory. However, it felt like there was maybe a little too much sex. D...more

I like this match~Dane♥Court, they are soooo OPPOSITE yet PERFECT FOR EACH OTHER...I also liked the writing aswell ~I will leave you with one of my favorite made me smile line's,"Dane & Courney pantin' in a tree, f*#@k-i-n-g" OMG~ I had to laugh at that line~

I really enjoyed Dane and Court's story. The beginning was very intense, probably one of the most intense opening chapters I have ever read! I did get a little confused at times throughout the book, but nothing too major.

Dane was fuckhawt! He knew how to design and execute complex, multi-orgasm plans...paying attention to every explicit detail. Fucking Hot!. These guys were really hot...and sweet together. (view spoiler)[The dream at the end...the one with the shoes...had me tearing up a bit. (h...more

The first thing I noticed was the interesting diction. Very much immediate, in-your-face appealing.
The beginning’s simply beautiful in its stark terror. The gruesome condition Dane is found in… And then it becomes even more horrifying. I was trying not to cry by chapter two.

Dane is… special. Initially he seems like a windbag and I can see why people are annoyed by him. He is a force of nature, though. (Ha! I jotted that down before the book used the same words.) It does not take long to discover...more

Having a near death experience like Dane Harper does in 'Forever in One Second' by Finn Marlowe definitely gives you a new perspective on life. It reminds us how fragile we are and how we need to appreciate every second of our life as if it were our last, because it might well be. Along with Dane's newfound enthusiasm is his desire to find and thank Court, the man who saved his life. What he doesn't realize at the time is that when Court chooses to save Dane's life, he is also saving his own.

Court saved Dane’s life. As an EMT, Courtenay has seen a lot of suffering and death in his line of work. When he comes across a dying Dane, Court just wants to stop his suffering. Dane’s near miraculous recovery compels him to search out Court and immediately the sparks fly. Dane is determined to get through Court’s many emotional walls but when he does, a threat from Court’s past shows why he had good reason to be nervous.

An interesting and (at least for me) original idea where one of the characters has an unexplained ability where he can heal injuries.
Both Dane and Court were interesting characters and they seemed to work well together with Dane leading and making plans (and some of those plans were Hot) and Court following.
I found the whole take charge and make it happen attitude Dane had appealing since those are the kind of characters I like the most. On the other hand there was Court suffering from...more

Goddamn.

Dane and Court were sizzling. Seriously. Electricity in every touch. And, holy crap, was Dane the man with the plan. His plans were exquisite. Like an art form. Definitely gives a new meaning to planning for sex. As long as Dane is planning it count me in. I could give this book 5 stars on the sex scenes alone. They were pages upon pages long. Very nice!

Dane and Court could not be more opposite if they tried. Dane, having had a near death experience, is living life to the fullest. He wan...more

This was my first bingo book! Here is what I posted in that thread.

I've finished Forever in One Second

Two genres I love. Paranormal and m/m. With a slight sprinkling of mystery, which I also adore.

Star rating this one is hard for me. It was much better than a three star read, but I don't think I quite enjoyed it as much as other books I've rated four stars. Can I rate it 3.75?

I did love the characters. Especially Dane, he was so irrepressible. Like a big ol dog that just loves life, but beware...more

This is an interesting book. It's not going to be everyone's cup of tea but it's….beautifully weird. I can’t find better words at the moment, but know they are meant as a compliment.

After a tornado Dane Harper is saved from mortal injuries by a man from search and rescue, a man with unusual, memorable eyes. Court Woods has to make a split second decision to save a man who he recognises as his former best friend’s (once) annoying, younger brother. They haven’t seen each other in quite a while, bu...more

Excellent book! I was hooked within the first few pages and I didn’t want to put it down!! I understand where some of the other reviewers are coming from with respect to feeling a bit confused due to the dream sequences and feelings of lurking danger; however, I thought these things actually added to the air of mystery and intrigue for me. I couldn’t flip the pages fast enough to keep unraveling more and fitting the puzzle pieces together.

OMG – Dane and Court were amazing together and perfect f...more

Really good character development for me.

Dane Harper is dying. Court has 1 second to make a decision to save his life. He has 1 second to make that happen before he gets caught. That decision is going to change his life, but it's a decision he'll never regret.

This story was really fun and exciting. First of all, let me just say that I loved Dane Harper. His character was so funny and charming and he made me smile the entire way through the book. His attitude was awesome and he brought out the v...more

This review might contain minor spoilers, all major spoilers are hidden!

Okay this is a hard review to write because I have mixed reactions to the book. There are some things that clearly work really well. Then there was aspects of the book that really annoyed me. However in other books with the amount of issues I had I would only give this three stars but there is just something about this book that made me forgive and forget my pet hates.

I normally start with the positives but this time I will...more

The first chapter of this book is.... intense. Right from the start I was drawn into the story and the characters problems and didn't want to put the book down.

Dane is a man who's sick of living in the city so he moves home after his brother's death. While working one day, he gets caught right in the middle of a tornado. Crushed, and on the very edge of dying, Courtenay shows up from Search and Rescue. Courtenay knows Dane is dying, he can feel it but he also remembers Dane and he can't just let...more

Delightful paranormal m/m with good characters and fast-moving, interesting plot. A man has the gift of fixing injuries; this earns him both the love of a childhood frenemy, and the attention of several, more powerful people who don't necessarily mean him well.

It's not too short like most of these books; I think I prefer a longer length. I've also figured out I don't hate all paranormals, I like paranormals where people have special gifts, like this one. It's the werewolves and vampires I could...more

I couldn't get into this book. The basic idea was great, added a nice supernatural element to the story. It started off alright too with a gripping action scene involving a twister. I liked the main characters, Dane so cheeky and pushy, Court deeply flawed and insincere, and some of the minor characters were interesting, too. But about 30% in, the story started to drag. First during the sex scenes, they went on for pages and pages--by the time the first one ended, I was just glad they were done...more

Forever in One Second was magical, truly magical. I am a very very very content reader. :-)

The story starts by grabbing you with an explosive opening sequence, introducing Dane, Courtnay and the gift. Then a love story, so you know they are cemented together: their relationship solid and their love started and growing. And damn, the sex exquisite. I loved Dane's take charged attitude, his sense of humour and zest for life. Courtnay was a quieter soul, troubled but willing to open and accept. Min...more

Just not digging this as much as her first book. Putting it away until I am in the right frame of mind to read it.

3.75 stars. Fascinating story of Court, a man with a powerful secret that has ruined his life, and Dane, his childhood friend, who is determined to fix him.

This book starts off with a bang. An enthralling first chapter where Dane is caught in a twister and Court, a paramedic, brings him back to life using his unusual power to heal. As Dane recovers he can't stop thinking about his rescuer and his miraculous return from certain death. He seeks Court out and despite the other man's reluctance, the...more

3.5 stars.

I loved the premise of this book, however felt it was a little cliche at times and could have done with less sex in the first half. The sex itself was well written and hot; it just got a bit boring after the nth time.

The plot was fairly solid, though there were a couple of times during the point-of-view/time changes that I had to pause a moment and work out where I was. Would liked to have learned more about where Court's powers came from also.

Overall, it was enjoyable, and despite the...more

This book was okay, definitely an interesting premise, but it didn't keep me engaged. I really didn't like Dane, the whole "force of nature" thing justifying him riding roughshod over Court was a bit too much for me. And neither MC really grew much during the course of the book, Court was pushing past some of his issues, but I didn't feel like he overcame them.

I guess the most damning thing is that about 10-15 pages from the end of the book, I just gave up. Maybe those last few pages would have...more

remember life is a series of seconds and it only take one second to change the course of your life, but will it be for better or worse, not to mention sickness and health...

Well I suppose when one of you is a paranormal healer then you would hope for health, but gifts like this are coveted or despised. and either reaction can have serious consequences.

So how for would you go to protect the man who saved your life, but realy needs a different kind of healing, the kind that comes from a sence of b...more

It took me a while to finish this book, mostly because it didn't hold my attention. I liked both Dane as well as Court, (loved Dane, in fact) but after the first sex scene the magic was sort of gone for me, and the whole mystery thing wasn't appealing to me even at the beginning. With the dreams breaking into the story and all different points of view - although important - I felt distanced early on, and the feeling never just went away.

This book isn't bad, and I'm sure plenty of people will lov...more

I enjoyed this story, but there were some parts that were just hard to get thru. Mainly, the dream sequences that just seemed to go on forever and Court's neverending guilt trip about his gift. Thank god for Dane, at least his impishness and positive energy kept the story from being too maudlin. Also, the supposed action scenes were painful to get thru. I found myself skimming these just so I could get back to the scenes that were just with Dane and Court. Those were well-written and fun. I also...more

The MCs in this book are not perfect, they are self-absorbed and stubborn. They place themselves into impossible situations, rarely work their way out unscathed......and hardly ever behave the way you would expect them to.

BUT.... together they make an engaging story.

Court has a very powerful gift, and uses it to save the life of Dane-the-pain-Harper. However, Court is a reluctant hero, he is uncomfortable with his gift and is an emotional mess. Dane is the light to Court's dark - he sees the g...more

2.5 stars. - Even though I normally am a big fan of paranormal romance stories, especially ones with action and suspense, I could not get into this book. The MCs didn't really draw me in to care about them and their relationship. (I did like bossy, sunny Dane, but overall, I found their chemistry low and a little dull.)

I wasn't a huge fan of the story progression, or how things resolved. (But don't worry, there's an HEA.) Also didn't like how the author would switch POVs randomly. Most of the ti...more

" Still drifting, he kept his sigh inside. Dying is so sweet. Does everyone hear that pretty song when they go? Outside of the dying, voices called out, back and forth, disturbing his peace. Loud, annoying voices, smothering the song. Shhhhh… be quiet! I’m listening. Can’t you see I’m listening? Don’t you hear it? Shhh… "

"Forever" intimately explores one of my favorite what if's, and somewhere around Ch 12 it occured to me that this could be one of the most deeply satisfying books I have ever re...more

I really enjoyed Forever In One Second. This is an unusual combination of contemporary and paranormal romance with not a vampire, werewolf, fairy or demon in sight. The story starts off with a bang with one of our MC’s caught in a tornado. Dane is at death’s door and Court, his rescuer, has just the super power he needs. With a super power comes heavy responsibility though.

Court walks in darkness and pain; at the mercy of his gift and on the run from those who would control it and him. Dane is...more

I loved, deep and utterly, this book. It wasn't insta-love, though, I had a little hard time catching the book's pace, especially because the first chapter is so intense and the next few chapters feel a little dragged when compared; also, I keep wondering, during the first third of the book, when the conflict will explode other than Dane kicking his way into Court's life. But once I got into, I was completely charmed, and the conflict does appear, big time.

The characters are simply adorable. I...more
