Into the Dreaming is a short story set in Moning’s Highlander/Fever world originally published in the anthology Tapestry in 2002. I first read it in the spring of 2010 when I was on a desperate hunt for clues to discover what the heck Jericho Barrons was and trying to assuage the pain of the wait for Shadowfever. Into the Dreaming then was a fun read, provided me with what I thought at the time were decent clues but in the end did not turn out to be anything but a sweet distraction. Once again I...more

This is billed as Highlander #8.
We see Queen Aibhoil and the unseelie king (for the first time!). The story is clever and I loved it (as I do all of KMM's highlanders).
Aiden is trapped by the unseelie king as his Vengeance, and forced to give up everything to simply survive, but he gets one month in the "real world" to be free (after 500 yrs imprisonment) and he meets his soul mate. But he doesn't remember the dreams the seelie queen gave him about her, and his soulmate must make him remember h...more

This was a lovely short story and me being hooked to KMM's Highlander world, I just had to read it <3

Aedan KacKinnon was captured by the Unseelie King, tortured and finally imprisoned in the Unseelie realm where he forgot everything that made him human. After 500 years, the king gives him a month to break his hold on him, if the warrior falls in love, and was loved in return, he will be released back to the human world.

There was an interesting involvement from the Queen of Fae in this one, a...more

 AFTER READING THE BOOK

His lips touched hers.
God, they were cold! she thought, stunned. Icy.
God, she was warm, he thought, stunned. Blazing.

The Fae is up to their own tricks again messing with the humans in order to play head games with each other.

Aedan MacKinnon agrees to go into servitude for "five years" (ALWAYS read fine print people) in order to save his clan being wiped out to the...more

OK...I know this was just supposed to hold me over until Iced is released later this year, but as usual I want more. I really liked Into the Dreaming and the deleted scenes from Kiss of a Highlander.

I am super glad she trashed the first version of Dark Highlander, because it was horrible. I guess my reaction is harsh because it is one of my favorites of her highlander series. I loved Daegus and Chloe in that book, and Elizabeth in this version was annoying and irritating. Good move, Karen, to sc...more

I’m a huge fan of Karen Marie Moning. I love both her Highlander and her Fever series. When this short story was re-released I had to have it. It wasn’t quite what I expected, but it really took me back to the Highlander series. I adored those books from first to last, and I remember why now. Moning is such a wonderful writer, whether it’s romance or urban fantasy.

Jane was so cute and funny, just like all of Moning’s heroines. Aedan was just the dose of big alpha-male I needed. I loved how cluel...more

Picked up for the cover (someone needs to remind me to bring my glasses into the library when I'm picking up books!) and didn't know what to expect. Well, obviously time travel and romance, right? I mean, just look at the cover.

Anyway, I enjoyed the short story/novella Into the Dreaming, having not read any of Moning's Highlander Series. It's a quick romp with heroine Jane Sillee dreaming of a man for years, who turns out to be a real person who lived hundreds of years before and continents awa...more

I feel a bit badly giving this a 2, because I'm probably not the right person to be judging this book accurately.

I clearly accidentally stumbled into the middle of a series with this one. This book is actually a couple stories from the author that either are separate from her series or was an unpublished element of it-- however I sense that the reader is supposed to either know the characters or know the style and thus be continued on an ongoing journey. For me it just felt like I was lurching i...more

This book is easily the cheapest, silliest, most unnecessary, and insipid of the Highlander romances, which is saying quite a bit. Moning obviously called this one in and then her editor spilled coffee over half the manuscript. What the editor managed to piece together was sent to the printer, whose hard drive failed, and the data recovery team only got back every other chapter.

Man, this was bad. This was a whole new level of bad, actually. Just a waste of time from every direction. Now I under...more

This was an exciting " take " on Beauty and the Beast! The Beauty is a modern romance novelist, never quite fitting wherever she goes. She has been in love with a mysterious stranger who has been appearing in her dreams since she was a child, and her lover ( in her dreams) since she was in her late teens. Her name is Jane. One day out of the blue, she receives an ancient tapestry picturing her dream lover, a Highland Warrior. She falls asleep with it, and wakes up on the shore of a sea, near an...more

I honestly cannot imagine the world of paranormal romance novels without Karen Marie Moning, because she’s simply one of the most distinguished narratorial voices of this genre, her tales are among the most gratifying I have ever read. Just look at the fantastic job she’s doing with the marvelous adaptation of FEVER MOON into a full-color graphic novel!
What I am reviewing today is a novella (installment # 8 in the Highland...more

I was first introduced to Karen Marie Moning’s Highlanders about 9 years ago by a co-worker, and I fell in love big time!!! I have read all of them many times except this book. I couldn’t get my hands on a copy without giving up an arm and a leg on E-bay. This version with all the bonus material was so worth the wait and it was great to visit this world that I love so much!! This is a short story jam packed with all the sexy greatness we expect form one of...more

I got the "new" version with all the extras from KMM. I liked the little story "Into the Dreaming", although it wasn't as good as the other highlander books. I appreciated the story for what it was, though, and I realize it was an early story for her. I could see how KMM developed and honed her craft.

The Daegus story... I still don't think I quite understand how it was supposed to fit into the series. It made me want to go back and read book 4 and the Daegus book again, though, which I suppose i...more

I am still wondering where this book fits into the Highlander Series. I think maybe it could be read in the beginning or the end.

Anyways, what I thought. I liked it and disliked it which is the reason I gave it a 3.

It was a little on the cheesy side what with the Tapestry and the Dreams that Jane and Aedan were having together.

However, I did like the idea that the Unseelie king had kept Aedan in Faery for 500 years and tortured him (I like angst) and then deposited him back in Scotland for a mon...more

This was an uniformed disappointment, on my part. This is a short, 70page excerpt from a larger novel. This writing was great as usual, the story line fun and imaginative.

As Jane grows up she has dreams about a lone highlander from the 1400's, as she grows up she finds she was truly born in the wrong time period. What she doesn't know is that she will soon be in her time period with her dream man, only somethings are not as they seem. Something has happened and her highlander is not himself. Al...more

I just can’t get enough of KMM’s writing. For being a novella, this story has just as much drama and heat as her full length Highlander and Fever books. I can’t wait for her to publish more… I don’t care what it is, if she writes it, I’ll read it.This short story could fit into either her Highlander or her Fever series.

The story begins with a highland warrior named Aedan being held captive by the Unseelie King in his realm. Aedan made a deal with the king to give himself up if the King would sa...more

Even though this book is small it’s still an awesome read and i can’t wait to read more of Ms. Monning’s Highlander series.

Jane Sillee spent her entire life longing for the man in her dreams. He was her friend during her childhood and the love of her life as she matured. She knew what he looked like but had never seen him except during the wee hours in her sleep. That is, until an old tapestry is delivered to her. There he was her soul mate, his image woven and preserved in threads along with h...more

Right now I'm in Part 1: Chapter 5. There was quite a shocker as to who Mac killed at the end of the previous book. I'm hoping that this person isn't really dead and he'll show back up later in the story. To me him being gone is not something I want to see happening. I think Mac needs this person to complete her goal in the story.

I have had a feeling since the last book and now more so in this one, that Mac is the re-incarnated soul of the Unseelie King's Concubine. There is too much of her reme...more

Although Into The Dreaming is not as fabulous as the rest of the Highlander series, it was still an enjoyable read.

Aedan MacKinnon has been tricked into servitude by the Unseelie King. To save his clan, he has agreed to serve five years in the Unseelie realm. Unknown to him, he HS not agreed to five mortal years, but five Faery years or five hundred mortal years. During his time in the Unseelie court, Aedan is tortured and made to forget his mortal life. Any memory if it brings him pain. At the...more

What happens when the Unseelie King decides to destroy the life of a good human and then the Queen of Fae decides that she has to help this human? Ah, yes. Then we have a very lovely and interesting short story! The final installment in the Highlander series was fast-paced and well-written and I enjoyed it very much.

Aedan was captured and tortured by the Unseelie King and he spent the last five hundred years without remembering his true self. But the Queen of Fae when she learned what happened,...more

A classic Karen Marie Moning highlander romance tale, in which we meet Jane. Jane feels like she was born of another era and this feeling stems from her kilt-wearing dream lover. One day, when all hope is lost, she gets a package. In it, there's a tapestry and guess who's visage is staring richt back at her. That's right, her dream lover. She ends up being transported back and she comes across the man that has made her wish her dream life was her real life since she was a wee lass. But, there is...more

I started with Moning's Fever series and then, loving them so much, read her Highlander series. The novella, Into the Dreaming, is a nice little story in the Fae-verse, and the bits and bites of other works are enjoyable but not her greatest works. What was the most insightful for me in this publication were the insights into her writing process and the stories behind the stories. That in itself makes this book worth the read. I am glad that I did but don't feel that if I hadn't read it I would...more

Into the Dreaming lure them deep where they shall love whilst they doth sleep then in the waking both shall dwell 'til love's fire doth melt his ice-born hell.

Awe, the last Highlander book in this series.

This series was done as a buddy read with Vika and Sultan, (WHAT UP GIRLS, lol). This series alone completely made me re-think my dislike of historical romances and completely 100% turned us three girls into die-hard kilt loving girls. WOW, what a great series it was.

I was a fan of Karen Marie darker, edgier Fever series before my favorite librarian told me there was a connection with her Highlander series. So, naturally iPad to check them out! This book, Into the Dreaming, was originally released as a separate novella, and I hadn't had a chance to read it when it first came out. I'm glad I didn't, because I might have missed this re-release with Bonus Material from the author! I just loooove me some Bonus Material! :-)

I may be rating this one a tiny bit high because the last "romance" I read was so very bad...
But I did really enjoy this novella.

Moning writes about two worlds - the one inhabited by the characters in her Fever series (looking forward to the NEW Fever books!) and the one inhabited by the characters in her Highlander series.

I LOVE the Fever books, but couldn't get into the Highlander books.
This short story - Into the Dreaming - is a crossover book between the two worlds. I was hoping it would pi...more

***NOTE MY REVIEWS OFTEN CONTAIN SPOILERS***

Before I begin this review with either I’ll note this book is much more than just the novella Into the Dreaming. The book includes deleted scenes, numerous letters to readers from the author, unwritten book proposals and the original beginning of another work. Oddly I’d describe it as reminiscent of a writer’s blog in hardcover format. Though I’m grateful to finally have chance to get the last part of the highlanders series in hardcover and complete my...more

If you’re a massive fan of Karen Marie Moning like I am, then you may have squeed upon hearing about this rerelease. I love KMM’s Fever series (I really do), but for some reason I enjoy her Highlander series more. I love the passion in them, the darkness and also the hot alpha men who grace the pages of these books.

In INTO THE DREAMING, we get another bonus hottie in Aeden. Jane, a modern- day romance writer and Aeden, a hot Scot fall in love in between realms called t...more

I'm over 1/2 through Into the Dreaming with bonus material but thought I would list what is in the book.
First and introduction and then Into the Dreaming which is 116 of266 pages. Either I forgot a bunch of the ending or the epilogue was new, I suspect the first since my memory is crap.
After the novella the writer talks about her experience with writing and getting published. She also talks about her break from the Highlanders to the Fae series and says she has no plans on returning. 3 or 4 yea...more

It’s been a long while since I read KMM’s work. After my last Highlander novel (Spell of the Highlander, #7 in the series), I believe I had said in my last review that I was getting tired of the overall structure of the novels. It may have had something to do with expectations, but over time, I had come to the realization that PNR (paranormal romance) can be rather different than UF (urban fantasy). While I read both genres and both would involve supernatural elements, I am usually more interest...more
