The Naptime Chef: Fitting Great Food into Family Life
Having children changes your life, but it doesn’t have to change what you cook. Like her blog, www.TheNaptimeChef.com, Banfield’s cookbook is equal parts pragmatic parent and ardent foodie. The result is a tasty playbook of meals, made over to save time without compromising taste. Some favorites are the 45-minute artichoke lasagna, assembled in the morning or afternoon and...more

She's a very likeable, easy-to-relate to mom (from Cooperstown, if that matters;) And her approach to cooking with kids makes sense - it's already something that I do. I found her recipes to be a little labor-intensive, and many of them didn't really fit our palate (like she includes two pretty heavy lasagnes - that would be a big dinner for us). But there are some good soup and baking recipes in here, and I love that she included the prep and cooking times, as well as tips for reheating and pre...more
What inspiration for a busy wife or mother! These pages are filled with dozens of creative recipes certain to please your family. Some of these dishes can be made ahead, too, saving valuable time in a busy, fast-paced household.
Some of my favorites were: Strawberries and Cream Overnight French Toast, Sparkling Sangria Cooler, Italian-Style Meatloaf, Spring Citrus Grilled Shrimp, and Creamy Butternut Squash and Ginger Soup. Perfect for gift giving and a nice addition to any cook’s bookshelf.

Wonderful collection of how-to's and suggestions for wiggling in time to make terrific meals when negotiating a day with a newborn and toddler. Great tips and tricks - a real find to Moms of any age who want to create great meals and don't have hours to mess around in the kitchen. This book joins my small pile of cookbooks that I always keep accessible. (Personal bonus - the author knew my Mom from attending alumnae meetings at their high school.)
I really liked the concept of cooking in stages during naptime that Banfield described in the introduction. I felt, however, that the rest of her cookbook was just a collection of regular recipes, albeit delicious.
I found a better example of "naptime cooking" in a chapter in Debbie Koenig's _Parents Need To Eat Too_.
