It’s astounding to think this is the twelfth book in this series, yet it is just as solid and entertaining as the first. Although not the most spectacularly written books ever created, The Morganville Vampires series is incredibly engaging and each book full of humour, friendship and action. Each and every one is memorable in some way or another and each and every character is a d...more It’s astounding to think this is the twelfth book in this series, yet it is just as solid and entertaining as the first. Although not the most spectacularly written books ever created, The Morganville Vampires series is incredibly engaging and each book full of humour, friendship and action. It’s impossible not to fall in love with the characters, from sarcastic and tough Shane to hilariously crazy Mrynin. Each and every one is memorable in some way or another and each and every character is a delight to read about. Though I suppose we all have our favourites… mine is Shane Collins.

In this instalment, there is no holding back or stopping to catch our breaths. Rachel Caine carries on at full speed ahead from where book eleven left off. Reluctantly united by a common enemy, the humans and vampires of Morganville attempt to rid their town of the merciless draug – creatures that pose a chillingly real threat to the vampires. Claire and the gang find themselves caught in the middle with challenges, both physical and emotional, surrounding them on all sides.

Shane is the star of any Morganville book for me, but Black Dawn is where I admired him best. Finding himself dangerously close to the draug, his strength is tested like never before. My heart when out to him more times than I can count, but I still adored and cherished his trademark humour. I laughed as many times as I cried and wish I could just pluck him out of the book and keep him someplace safe. And not just Shane – Claire, Eve and Michael have all left their marks on me and Black Dawn reminded me why I love this group of friends so dearly. The way they support and care for each other is wonderful to read about, and the banter between them is one of my favourite things about these books.

“Ladies? After you.”
“Rude,” Claire said.
“I was being polite!”
“Not when you have a flamethrower.”

(Shane’s enthusiasm with the flamethrower was hilarious, by the way.)

And Mrynin! I’ve yet to hate this strange man despite all the less than admirable things he has done. Maybe I am just a fan of crazy? His bizarre personality won me over in the previous books and was just as shocking (and entertaining) in this instalment.

Mrynin was silent for a beat, and then he said, “Bob would be very disappointed in you.”
“Bob the Spider?”
“He looks at you like a mother you know.”

With a series so long (and still not finished!), there is always the risk of the plot being dragged out so extensively that the books end up going downhill. Thankfully, this is not the case with Morganville Vampires. With as much suspense and substance as its predecessors, Black Dawn proves this series is still miles away from its sell-by date. In fact, I dread the moment when this series comes to a close. If any series could be one hundred books long and still fresh and exciting, it is this one. Fifteen books is not nearly enough for me.

Black Dawn....ooooooh sounds all mysterious and dark.

I looooooove these books, don't get me wrong, but does anyone else want them all to be happy for five minutes or just get the fucking balls to run out of town for good? Or can't these kids just figure out that their town is going to hell and to just leave? I find myself feeling that sometimes, but I still love these books.

Could this series get any more exciting? This by far is the best in the series. Full of action though out the book, lots of twists and turns that will keep you wanting more and wondering what is going to happen next. You even get to the point where you are questioning a lot of the characters and their in-tensions towards Morganville itself. Really kind of indifferent to this one. I think the author should have ended with 12 books as was originally intended. If that was the case this would have been the final book and I think there would have been more finality to it. Instead there will be at least 3 more books. Normally I like the characters. But in this one they annoyed me. Shane and Claire were cute at first. Now I'm just sick of them and wish they'd break up. Eve and Michael are almost to that point for me too. I still love Myrnin, but there was not enough of him in this one for me. Richard dying, especially the way he did, made me sad. He was a character that deserved better.

I was also not a fan of how the chapters were written. They went back and forth between different character's perspectives. If I remember correctly, the first few books were from Claire's POV only. Then we started getting Shane, Michael, and Eve. Eventually Amelie and Oliver were in there sometimes too. Along with all of them we got one from Naomi and Hannah too. That's just too many for my liking. As far as I can recall, the one character who I'd actually be interested in knowing what his crazy mind was thinking has never gotten to share his POV.

I think it's absolutely ridiculous for these characters to be getting married as teenagers. So the ending of this book was not satisfying to me in the least. Shane dreaming of being married and a father weirded me out too. I think the series as a whole is too fast paced. The things that have gone on in these 12 book took place in the matter of a little under 2 years. It feels more like it should have been 5 years by now. I'm 12 books in so of course I'll finish the series, but it's definitely dragging on and I am no where near as enthusiastic about reading it as I was in the beginning. (less)

Black Dawn picks up right where book eleven left off. Morganville is in serious danger as the draug (the only thing that really terrifies vampires) are in town and threatening to ruin everything! We see humans and vampires somewhat reluctantly joining together to fight a common enemy. This whole book was so insanely intense. I had to put it down several times because it was freaking me out so much! It really messes with your emotions and I was so terrified for my favourite characters because they have to face some awful situations. Yet they do it with courage and never really think about not fighting. They're all seriously brave and I love how, as always, Michael, Eve, Shane and Claire look out for each other even when they're not getting on.

Shane gets a lot of focus in this book- something I'm sure many fans won't mind at all! Of course, as always where Shane is concerned, it's not always good focus and will probably make your heart freak out and have you refusing to believe what you've just read. Shane has a way of always getting into sticky situations (not always his fault, really) and terrifying both the characters and the readers! Claire is awesome and has gotten even tougher, something I didn't think was even possible. She's so selfless and smart, it's hard not to like her. Their relationship faces some problems but neither of them run away from the problems and it's interesting watching them try to deal.

Myrnin is as awesome (and wacky) as ever and made me laugh out loud so many times. He's also getting really sweet and at times was seemed to be becoming a bit of a softie! Michael and Eve are still reeling from the events of book eleven. This book is told from many POVs, which works sometimes and doesn't work other times. I like seeing things from Shane and Claires perspective, but I'm really wasn't too crazy about the times it switched to Eve. I really love her as a character but her POVs just don't work for me. Overall, this is book is amazing and I have no idea how I'm going to handle the wait until book 13, which isn't out until November of this year. I can't recommend this series enough, even though new-comers will certainly have a lot to catch up on!(less)

Claire and Myrnin have to find a scientific solution to save the day. Shane continues to angst about his life. Claire wuvs Shane and using the power of twu wuv, she tries to help him. A solution to beat the bad guys is found at the last minute. Shane wuvs Claire and decides to stops angsting for all of 5 minutes because that’s the kind of thing you do for your one twu wuv. Shockingly Michael broods. Claire and co fight the good fight and what do you know they win. But oh noes!! Claire and co can’t get too happy because they might have beat the bad guys but there’s the other bad guys they have to fight. So there has to be yet another sequel in the neverending Morganville saga so we can find out if Claire and co survive and find out if Michael ever stops brooding .
I didn’t like the multiple POV’s, it was hard to distinguish between voices because they all sounded so similar..thankfully R.Caine had the good sense to note who was narrating each scene because otherwise it’d be impossible to tell who was who. The narrative also changes from 3rd person POV to 1st person which was annoying because it just bought me out of the story. Pretty much everyone got a POV except for Myrnin and Monica who I would have actually preferred to read about.
Over the course of the series Claire seems to have morphed from an intelligent, studious character to a cookie cutter blah YA heroine. I’m bored with Claire’s vanilla, do goody and boring personality, so much so that I was wish I could read from Monica’s POV – yes Monica’s a crazy bully and a little psycho but at least she’s interesting and full of fire.
I’ll only be reading the last 3 books because I’ve come this far and I’m hoping the last 3 will have a more original and solid storyline.

Ok Let's start with this: Rachel Caine continues to be one of my favorite authors! Her books continue to surprise me and make me love them every time I read one. This book was amazing. I probably could have finished this in one sitting, but sleep got in the way. This was one of those books that you don't want to ever put down, but life gets in the way of it.

My favorite part in this book was probably the dream sequence that Shane has. It was perfect. I liked how it was a dream while also being a manifestation of his worst fear. Something about the over all book that was amazing was that we could see what everyone was feeling and thinking, I think that make's Caine's books even better, seeing things from one person's point of view like the earlier books wasn't as fulfilling as the books that have multiple point of views. Call me crazy, but one of my favorite viewpoints in this book was Oliver's. I liked that we got to see things from his point of view because he's shown as this old and cold vampire that has no feelings whatsoever in earlier books, then BAM! you get to see inside his head. It was very fascinating to here what was going on in his head.

Oliver/Amelie: I loved was the Oliver/Amelie relationship. Their relationship seems like a long time coming thing. I mean they were enemies first, that is a classic cliche that I still manage to love! I can't wait to see their relationship play out.

Shane/Claire: In this book, their relationship in my opinion hit an all time high. The intimacy between them was almost tangible. I think that Shane's dream really accelerated their relationship for the better.

Micheal/Eve: Even though they were in a fight through most of the book, they still managed to fix up most everything. I didn't like how Michael got hurt but, I loved when Eve stabbed him when he tried to scare her though, because you can't beat Girl Power. I was routing for her! I swear during the whole epilogue, I was smiling like, "They finally did it!".

The down side to this book was that the first couple chapters with the draug were kind of drawn out. It seemed like she could have shorten those and added more of other things. I also would have enjoyed more interactions between the Glass house residents, it seemed like there wasn't as much in this book as there was in the earlier ones. Even though it had it's downsides, it still was a great book and I will probably read it over and over.

In conclusion, this was a amazing read and I recommend this and the whole series to everyone! :)

I cannot wait for the next one! As soon as I finished this book, I stopped by Amazon and added it to my cart! :)(less)

Not even 5 pages in, and my heart was already hinting at the intense beating my emotions were going to get while reading Black Dawn. In the world of Morganville, Texas, Black Dawn is the twelfth book in Rachel Caine's Morganville Vampires series.

I am a relatively new fan of Rachel Caine, having only powered through the entire Morganville Vampire series in the first week of June 2011 (and then eagerly anticipating the release of the then soon-to-be-released Bite Club!) New fan or not, the universe Rachel Caine has created continues to make the reader invest in the wellbeing of its characters.

Black Dawn does not begin quietly. In fact there are very few moments in the story where you are not fearing for one or more of the characters lives.

Claire Danvers describes the situation in Morganville best in the opening chapter:

"There were things out there in the world, things that vampires feared, and now those things were here. She was only seconds out of a very light, fitful sleep, but she knew that the nightmares had followed her effortlessly right into the real world. The draug. They weren't vampires; they were something else, something that moved through water, formed out of it, dragged vampires down to a slow and awful death."

Last Breath left us with the draug having infiltrated Morganville, feeding off the vampires and bringing a new fear to the towns inhabitants. Black Dawn continues right where Last Breath left us; in the middle of the pain and confusion that yes, the vampires in the Morganville Vampires universe do have a reason to fear for their continued existence. Claire, Shane Collins, Michael Glass and Eve Rosser are once again uncomfortably allied with Oliver, Myrnin and the other vampires to destroy the draug and try to save Amelie's life.

I could not choose just one hero from this book - Claire, Eve, Michael, Shane and a few surprise characters all brought their best baddassness to the fight. The dialogue between characters, particularly Shane and Michael, and of course Myrnin, had me laughing aloud (which may have gotten me a few looks on the train). It felt familiar to read their comfortable banter, and it was an enjoyable respite from the more intense situations dominating the storyline. While the main premise of Black Dawn follows the fight to survive the draug infestation, Rachel Caine absolutely delivers on the relationships between Eve and Michael, and Shane and Claire - and the complications that Myrnin presents.

As with Last Breath, we not only follow the story through the eyes of Claire, but other central characters Shane, Michael and Eve take us through their story fighting the draug, the political unbalance and the betrayals that will leave you on the last page anticipating the next adventure in Bitter Blood (Book 13 of Morganville Vampires)!

This is one of the few storylines where I don’t mind if they continue indefinitely. Typically, for most series I invest in, I’m usually eager to see the final conclusion approach, but with Morganville I actually dread it. I don’t want these books to end, and I hope Rachel Caine has a way of allowing them to continue indefinitely. I really do.

In this installment, the draug have invaded Morganville and taken over the town. This most feared enemy of the Morganville vampires move through the water and take form as they drag them down to a slow, awful death. The draug have been undefeated by the vampires for many centuries and when they attack Morganville causing the residents to evacuate the city, only a few stay behind to try and take their town back.

I feel it’s the Morganville cast that make this experience both exciting and fulfilling. You have four Glass House residents that have forged a strong bond and unbreakable friendship no matter the circumstance. There’s no annoying love triangles, aside from the ones I image (view spoiler), but rather genuine relationships between Claire, ~~Nekkid~~ Shane, Michael and Eve. And despite how consistent they are from book to book, you can still detect the subtle changes and growth in their character.

In Black Dawn, it was interesting to see how Claire has become more confident and courageous mostly out of necessity and circumstance as we witness Eve and Michael’s struggle from the aftermath of the events that took place in the previous book. Eve becomes a bit steadier and more pensive, not has hard around the edges as before. Michael is struggling with his change more than ever before, more hesitant around Eve due to the attack. And finally, we see Shane’s aggression come to a halt when the draug strip him of his reality and make him question what is truly within his grasp and what he’s on the verge of losing. These four characters are put through a pressure cooker of emotional challenges and through it all, they stand by one another in the most heartfelt show of friendship and commitment to one another.

As with all of the other installments, I read this too quickly and now the wait for the next book will only be that much longer… ~sigh~ I can’t wait to see what’s next for the Glass House residents. Truly can’t get enough of this series. Pure awesome!

Black Dawn is the twelfth book in the Morganville Vampire series, and the momentum has not slowed down. Wow. What an accomplishment for Rachel Caine. It's book 12 and I still enjoy it. Every time they defeated a villain I thought this might be the last book, then six months later a new book was published. I pretty much enjoyed every book except the 10th book.

The hysterics, love, humour and danger that surrounds these novels never seizes to amaze me. Now let get to the other residents of the Glass House... Eve and Michael Glass. They are engaged to be married. There engagement wasn't a shock yet it was the news that Morganville greatly appreciate. The conflict between Vampires and Humans have risen preventing the ruling to proceed their happiness. But they don't care, what matters is the love and passion they share with each other. And they will fight for it!

Eve the Goth of Morganville isn't quite as hardcore as you may suspect. Her make-up is just a cover up of whats beneath it; kind, courageous, intelligent and not afraid of a good mocca! Yet her persona also shows that she is not afraid and will do damn right anything to disobey the rules of Morganville. Eve isn't no Princess but she isn't no Warrior either. The best aspect of her character is being attached to Michael. Michael is the luscious vampire that we all know and love. He musical intentions shine through his persona and calms the darker side of his character. Michael is conflicted by himself, by the growing loss of his humanity. But you will see that Eve is Michael's anchor and Eve, his!

After the Founder has been incapacitated by the Master Draug's bite, Morganville is under the protection of Claire, Shane, Michael and Eve. But with the increasing amount of draugs spreading throughout and no concrete weapon against them, they have their work cut out for them. But not only is there trouble outside, she has to consider the tension between her own circle of friends and whether or not they are going to survive the day not necessarily the week!?

Could you imagine being surrounded by vampires and yet have be part of the Glass House family. I could. No question of danger or fear will penetrate the love that Michael, Eve, Shane and Claire portray. But you can't have your family without the hysterics of Myrnin. An over- enthusiastic, scientifically crazy vampire with a very eccentric wardrobe. Including the ever so funny and much loved vampire bunny slippers.

Once again another superb and deeply moving and fast-paced novel that will keep you on the edge of you seats. I can't wait to finish my current read Bitter Blood.(less)

But now that this installment, and thus the big plot line, has come to an end the big question is what can Rachel Caine possibly throw at us next? Danger from the inside of the town? What is going to be the BIG story line that is going to bring this series to an end soon? That I am dying to read.

Now braze yourself because some characters die (characters I liked and I am sure a lot of other people like as well). It isn't pretty, it's pretty bloody, and it leaves a hole that needs filling stat. Then again this was bound to happen eventually, can't have all your characters surviving (something we have learned from J.K.Rowling and Suzanne Collins). Who dies? Up to you to find that out.

What I liked about this book was that it always had something that kept the plot moving along and that was exciting (biting your fingernails exciting). There were some very heartfelt scenes with our main couples (both couples had their respective time slot in the spotlight thanks to different POVs; I have to say I am liking the different POVs more and more with each passing installment). The guy I always seem to hate is less hate-able in this installment (bordering on sweet and cute *gasp* -yes, it is Shane-) and Myrnin is well Myrnin, though in this book we get less crazy vamp Myrnin and more focused Myrnin, but that's okay, his dialogue is still hilarious

I liked how things ended overall and how the book was written, I had have some complaints when it comes to the characters consistency however. For example, Amelie. She seems to be in favor of peace and bunnies on one page and then wants to kill everything the next. I understand that vampire reasoning is supposed to be unpredictable, but the decisions that sort of take place in Black Dawn by the end seem to be contradictory to the nature of some characters and that really pissed me off. Myrnin's decisions have a same base of reasoning, even if sometimes they are very fucked up, but other vamps? No such thing.

Again I don't exactly love this series, but I really enjoy it! It's an entertaining sort-of-quick read and the characters and dialogue are a blast. A totally must get for your collection. Let's see what happens next in this crazy town of Morganville.(less)

By doing this I didn't write a review for any singular book as I went along, and now I've updated my account I don't think I'd be able to just talk about one book at a time, so this review actually takes into consideration every morganville book so far... After nagging me for months, my friend finally convinced me to read these books and I found an INCREDIBLY good deal to buy the first 6, so I was actually quite hyped up in beginning the series. I really enjoyed all of them! I love Caine's writing style as it's not overly simplistic like many YA books seem to be now and somehow she's grasped perfectly teenagers dialect without seeming mocking or cheesy.
At around book 6 I felt as if the layout of all the books were becoming quite similar and wondered how I was going to manage another 6 books, but just at the right point, the storys changed, keeping the reader's attention for more haunted house drama with the added roller coaster thrills! Then in books 10, 11 and 12 I absolutely adore Caine for writing from other characters perspectives, giving the story more depth and understanding, plus more humour!
Surprisingly for YA books, I don't find Claire, the main protagonist, that annoying. Admittedly she does some incredibly annoying things and ends up worse off because of them, but overall Claire is alright, even though she does occasionally go all damsel-in-distress. I think because she's made to be an intelligent and quite independent character, she isn't overly needy like in many other series'. Also one thing I've found to like about the series is that the relationships formed aren't incredibly unrealistic- Shane and Claire (and Eve and Michael) weren't suddenly in love with each other after being together for two hours, meaning respect goes out to both couples and Caine for actually being reasonable. I find it especially cute in the first couple of books where Shane tries to be charming and dignified ;)
Caine plays with the reader's emotions in book 12, (I was crying in numerous places!) leaving me to frantically turn pages and cling to hope that it will be ok. And the draug are incredibly terrifying creatures-especially since it's been raining LOADS recently!
So now I just have to wait 2 months for the next book... Sad times...(less)

Morganville is in total chaos after the battle with the Draug. The one enemy that the vampires have tried to evade for centuries. Most of the Morganville inhabitants have been evacuated due to the danger lurking, literally, everywhere in Morganville. The ones still in town are trying valiantly to come up with a way to defeat, and ultimately kill, the Draug. The fact that the Draug are “water-like” creatures makes that daunting task a slippery slope. Michael and Eve are struggling to rebuild their relationship and their trust in each other after Michael’s rescue from the Draug in Last Breath. Let’s just say that after his rescue from the Draug, his vampire nature rose to the top!!! But, first, they have to try and defeat the Draug.

Claire, of course, is enlisted to help Myrnin (resident whacky, brilliant vampire scientist) to try and come up with something to help save them all. Amelie, the Founder, has been infected by the master Draug, Magnus, and is slowly slipping away. While she is being protected by Oliver, her 2nd in command (and enemy some days), others plot to take over Morganville as soon as Amelie is “gone”. Myrnin and Claire come up with ways to kill some of the Draug, and soon, they, along with Shane and Michael and Eve, set out to the water treatment plant to cut off the Draug’s access to Morganville’s water supply. Once they reach the plant, they split up to complete their separate tasks. Then, mayhem ensues. Shane is captured by the Draug and held captive. Claire, very unwillingly, is taken back to Founder’s Square (the vampires strong hold). She rallies her posse once again and goes back to rescue Shane. Enlisted to help are Richard Morrell (the mayor), Hannah Moses (chief of police) and Monica Morrell (resident mean girl). Mayhem ensues during the rescue, but everyone makes it out alive. This time……………

Then, things get really dicey!! I can’t tell you (without giving too much away) if they kill the Draug or not, but I can tell you that Shane is the one who astounds everyone. Not Myrnin. Not genius Claire. But plain ol’ Shane!! Then, things really get kicking! A lot of known characters show up in this book, who haven’t really been around a lot lately. And, O.M.G.!!! There are things that happen at the end that totally surprised me!! I totally didn’t see a couple of things coming, and, in my opinion, those things can only enhance the Morganville experience. There will be new foes, new alliances, and to quote a line in the book, “New rules, children. Brand new rules. Remember that”.

This book was written from several character’s perspectives. And, to be honest, I would have to stop and think sometimes whose point of view I was reading from. That said, it was another great book by Rachel Caine. I so love it when a book is a page turner, and this one was. I love it when I get so vested in the story that I don’t realize I can’t turn the pages fast enough until it sneaks up on me!! I wish that I could say more about what happens in the book, but, like I said earlier, I don’t want to give too much away. Thankfully, the 13th installment, Bitter Blood, comes out in November 2012, so I won’t have to wait too long!! I can’t bear to be away from Myrnin too long!!

Black Dawn picks up right where Last Breath ended. Morganville is overrun by the draug (think water vampires) and our gang is hiding out in city hall with the vampires. ONe of the things that for me makes this series work is that Caine has always been willing to put her characters through pain and suffering instead of keeping them in a safe bubble where they can do all these incredible adventures with no consequences. She is fearless in harming her characters until it brings tears to your eyes. Everyone has to work together, the vampires and the humans, mostly Claire and company as they figure out a way to defend themselves against the draug.
There is, of course, backstabbing and jockeying for position among the remaining vampire population, as always. And there are some emotional scars the Glass house "family" are dealing with, in various ways. So there is the big onggoing battle, little personal vampire ruling battles and the relationship bits added in.
I really liked how this plot worked out, but danged if these vampires aren't an incredibly ungrateful bunch. I keep hoping that things will get better, but it seems that isn't going to happen. Still like the series, I donn't see it coming in for a landing in the next book, but I hope it at least starts to circle the airport soon. I just want to know how the story finally ends.

This has been bugging me for the last three books, but authors need to make sure they check continuity on their characters. These books take place over short periods of time, but Eve's hair is all over the place. First in Bite Clue on page 17: "...her newly shag-cut black hair..." and then on page 22: "...tied back her black hair in a tight ponytail..." until page 305: "...shiny,close-bobbed black hair..." and then in Black Dawn which takes place just a few months later page 13: "...down, loose around her face and falling in soft black waves..."
So which is it, a shag cut or a bob or in loose waves? Her hair would have to have some length to lay in waves, wouldn't it? Also, the description of shiny, close-bobbed black hair is from Shane's point of view so he might not see it the same as Claire does, but I also don't think a guy would describe a girl's hair in that way, being bobbed. Shane's very much a guy who likely only would describe short or long. Just saying. This kind of things really bugs me as instead of following the plot, my brain is stuck back thinking, "How did she get that shag in a pony tail? Well, maybe it's a long shag and the ends would still be shaggy around her face, but she might be able to tie up the shaggy ends? Wait, she never had hair long enough for a long shag, did she? Crud, am I going to have to dig out all the previous books to do an Eve hair check? It's always black, right, right, I remember that, but it can't be short and then shorter and then not, can it? Well, there is lots of weirdness in Morganville so maybe her hair has some kind of strange magic about it. Yeah, that could be, I guess. Hold on, I've lost the plot altogether pondering Eve's coiffure!"(less)

Book 12, Black Dawn, begins right where Book 11, Last Breath, ended. The town of Morganville is in chaos, having been overrun by the draug and their Master, Magnus. Unless the remaining residents can find a way to destroy the draug, Amelie will complete the transformation into the one creature that vampires fear most. The problem? You can kill all of the spawn but a Master draug cannot be killed....Or can he?

Eve and Michael are dealing with the fact that he attacked her; or rather, they aren't dealing with it. Michael's worst fear presented itself after the gang save him from the draug pool and tossed him into a small space with Eve. Their relationship is very strained through a good majority of Black Dawn.

Claire, Shane, Michael, and Eve still haven't figured out why Claire can see Magnus but no one else can. The significance of this ability comes full circle and ties a couple things together from the earlier books in the series. I certainly wasn't expecting the outcome. Myrnin pulls a double-cross on Claire that had me shaking my head as I thought to myself, "Why does this turn of events NOT surprise one bit?!"

This installment is like all of the previous books; it is riveting and pulls you in, keeping you engaged from start to finish. There is adventure around every corner. It is full of suspense surrounding the plight that is the draug. Shane has an experience with the draug that upsets the balance as well as his personality for a small time. We get to see a more vulnerable side of him and we come to realize that while Shane may have been a screw up and irresponsible, Claire is a very good thing for him. Shane cannot live without her, or with the prospect of being without her. She is exactly what he needs and vice versa.

I really enjoy the story being told from various points of view. Each chapter is narrated by a different character. I think this gives the novel more depth and better insight into what the other characters, besides Claire, have with the goings on in Morganville. The plot, as usual, is pretty solid and makes sense.

As from my Vol.1 review: The entire human population of the town lives in fear of the creatures that stalk them; some of them can even be out during the day. Leaving the town is possible but not advisable as the vampires can do some interesting mind tricks to you to make you forget the town—BUT—if you ever start remembering anything while outside the bounds of Morganville, they will hunt you down and destroy you.

According to the author’s website, these books are suitable for Young Adults ages 13 and up, and I agree.

I don't know if it's my prejudice on the books far down in a series or it just didn't live up to my expectation.
Since Last Breath, the appearance of the draug, I feel that the series has somehow strayed away from the original story and concept.
Much has changed but I guess it's how to keep the series going right?

I did not like the introduction of the draug.
And I've been trying to ask myself why.
Maybe it's how it made the Morganville vampires look weak.

Let me start off by saying that this book being the 12th entry into the series you would expect the quality of story and writing to not to match the earlier books of the series...however when it comes to morganville vampires, you could not be more wrong There is no "you really should've stopped while you were ahead" when it comes to these series of book, rather it got better as it progressed.

The main focal point of this series has always been the characters, with each book showing the interactions between vampires and humans whether good or bad. While all this is all well and good, for me this series has always been about young & wild group of hero's & heroins of morganville, and this book was a first in attempting to get the POV of all of them. My verdict? I loved it, it brought a freshness to the series and I especially loved the [SPOILER] part where Shane daydreams about the perfect life he always wanted while being held captive by the Draug. That whole sequence was Erie and creepy as shit [SPOILER END]

Above everything in this series, the one thing that has my unconditional love is the loveable, vampire rabbit slipper wearing Myrnin. And can I just say big shout out to Caine for creating such an AWESOME character. Myrnin is just as twistedly sweet and crazy as always, but he did take a damn while to get into the book, but all is forgiven for the sweet moments he pulls off: [SPOILER] "He wrapped both arms around her, pinning her helplessly with her back against his chest, and it was like being held in an iron vise. “Hush,” he said softly. Claire felt Myrnin’s cold lips brush her cheek, and heard him murmur, “You will never thank me for this, fy annwyl.” And then he moved a hand to her throat and pressed in a specific place, and in seconds, the world tunneled into gray, then black, and she was gone." [SPOILER END] This is one of my favs from Myrnin although it is a twisted show of affection & kindness, but when it comes to him is there anyother way?? I mean C'MON CLARE MAKE OUT WITH HIM ALREADY. I know, I know "Myrnin's evil" & "she will always love shane", but I'm not suggesting for Clare to give up Shane because that would be highly unrealistic. I merely want her to acknowledge her feelings for Myrnin....and act on it :p And don't tell, me she hasn't got feelings for Myrnin, cos she does. I know she does...at least I think I know she does.....

Overall this was another strong addition to the books (although some parts of this book repeated the same things that were said earlier in the same book, but who really cares). I thought this was the last book but apparently there's another 3 sooooo YAY! More Myrnin for me :)

Anywho if you haven't read this series, were you hiding under a rock??, if so welcome back civilisation. Now get these books, lock yourself In your room, and read until you can't tell the difference between words and objects...okay that might be a little excessive, but I think you get my drift.
