Kiera's Quest was a very unique look into the YA Fantasy genre. The story was pretty original and I have to give the author credit for that. It isn't always easy to come up with something that is all your own and Kiera's Quest is definitely that.

However as fun and different as the storyline was there were some things with it that bothered me a little. We are kind of thrown right into Zakk's world without much background about his planet and life. The world building unfortunately was pretty lacki...more

It’s the first time I read a book where the main protagonist is as mad as a hatter. It was weird really. I never knew how I should feel about Kiera. She was overly dramatic about the smallest things and she genuinely came across as crazy. I was just as confused about Zakk’s character, and it didn’t help any that he was a whiny wimp. As much as I tried, I couldn’t find anything to like about him. It was pretty cool that the wicked witch turned him into a doll, though, and this added a nice twist...more

This wonderful fantasy story was action-packed from the very start and this meant that I was hooked pretty quickly. The descriptions really brought the characters to life which made it easy for me to visualise the colourful new world that Kiera finds herself involved with.

Kiera is a brave but unsure character, there are times in the story when she finds it hard to trust the people around her and this makes her feel incredibly alone. I get the feeling that there is a lot more to her than meets th...more

There's something different about Kiera. Something even she can't put her finger on, but she's about to take off on the adventure of her life time, though Kiera doesn't know that quite yet.
All her young life she's been plagued by dreams of a faraway land. A place as strange as it is familiar to her, where danger awaits around almost every corner. And something else...the comforting presence of someone she was destined for. Kiera must race against time to save Zak, the Prince of Zantar, from the...more

Kiera thought she had your typical teenage life, maybe with slightly more heartache added in than usual. However, in her current state living with her Uncle Tom, working in his toy store and having a close nit group of friends behind her, Kiera is happy, healthy and young....that is til she finds a mysterious plastic doll (that's right I said doll!) in her uncle's store and everything in her world is turned upside down.

The "doll" is actually a prince from a kingdom called Zantar, named Zakk. He...more

I was given an e-copy in exchange for my honest review.

Kiera was abandoned by her parents and raised by her uncle. She goes to school, hangs with friends, and works at her uncles store. She has always felt as if something inside was pulling at her, making her feel safe and terrified all at the same time. Everything else seems to be the normal life of a teenager except for this strange feeling of someone being in her dreams with her. One day while she is working, taking inventory, she comes acro...more

This book started off really well! It was exciting and full of action that made you want to read more!

Zakk, the prince of Zantar, has been thrown into our world and turned into a plastic doll. Also, the Witch Queen is after him and two rings, so that she may rule the earth! It wasn’t the most original of ideas, but...more

Kiera's Quest: Awakenings is a short and quick read.

Kiera is living with her uncle and doesn't know much about her past or parents. She is content because she has her uncle and her friends.

Strange things begin to happen to her. She hears a voice while working in her Uncle's shop. It is coming from a doll. She finds out that she has a destiny that will help her save another world.

Kiera’s Quest is a fantasy series targeted at the YA/tween audience.

Awakenings opens with Zakk in a cave with the Witch Queen. This is an eerie scene, full of magic and emotion. This sets the foundation for the action to come.

Next we meet Kiera as she’s doing what all teens do … dancing and singing into her toothbrush … that is until she realises friend Maddy has been silently watching her. This scene endeared Kiera to me straight away!

We find out about Kiera’s family background and meet her fri...more
Future Slayer Girl (aka: kitten)
In the tradition of Wizard of Oz, Alice in Wonderland, The Dark Crystal, Labyrinth, and Legend comes a brand new fantasy adventure for young readers. Kiera is a girl thrust into a world very much like Oz and her and her friends are spun out on an outlandish adventure. This was labelled young adult but it honestly can be read by grad school kids. If this had an audio version I would allow my nine year old to listen to it while reading along. I was surprised and odd at the clever innocence this wr...more

This book contains a short story which sadly did not grab me. The story wasn't given time to really develop and many of the characterisations were skimmed over. We get to know Kiera and to an extent Zakk before he becomes real again. Why was Kiera getting into so much trouble at school? Yes, she hummed in class and could be snappish, but was that enough to land her in front of the headmistress? This was skimmed over leaving questions unanswered. I felt that a lot more could have been made of the...more

I found this book incredibly fun and fascinating. It's like a modern day fairy tale in the works. Oh I absolutely love the way Kiera and her friends talk and the slang words they speak. Too frickin cute! Makes me wish I grew up in the UK.

Kiera's Quest is a short read that I finished within about an hour, give or take. But it's full of drama, bullies, evil wanna be Queens, a smidge of romance, and talking plastic dolls (lol does that peak your interest?).

I did not find any fault in this read bes...more

What a quick, fun, fast paced, action packed, fantastical adventure Kiera's Quest is!!

This book will only take you a few hours to read but for those few hours you will be swept along on the journey with Kiera! I really liked this character! She is strong and courageous, loyal and caring! Then we have Zakk, Prince of Zantar who is under the Witch Queens spell. But him and Kiera form a bond and Kiera sets out to save Zakk from the incredibly evil Queen!!

Kiera lives in our world, Zakk lives in Zantar. The two have never met but are both aware of the others existence.
Zakk is a prisoner of The Witch Queen (an enjoyably wicked creation) and only Kiera can save the day - if she can only work out how!
Both worlds are believable and well drawn, the characters all clicked just right and the end of the story left me wanting to know more and to spend more time in the company of these characters.

Now this book caught me off guard and was not what I expected. That right there gives the author a massive jump on this being a fantastic read.
Kiera has found a ring near a doll. The doll just so happens to be Zakk who is cursed by the Witch Queen’s spell. She wants all the power to do as she wishes. This story takes you on an adventure that shows you nothing around you is what it really seems. Can Kiera save this world she has been brought into and the people that she loves from harm? Loved th...more

From the first page of Awakenings, I was hooked. The story went by so fast and there was never a dull moment. I didn't even realize I hit the end until I turned the last page. I did not want it to end!

Kiera is a normal girl who works at her Uncle's toy shop. When a plastic doll shows up, she swears she saw his eyes move. The next day she hears the doll talk, and of course she thinks she is going crazy! Turns out that she isn't nuts, the doll is actually the trapped Prince of Zantar, Zakk. After...more

RATING : 4.5 DAZ, JOE AND ZAKK STARS!!

I am going to say it.

Disney you need to read this little gem.

I can sooooo see this book loved, nurtured and published by Disney.... even a movie.

Oh , yeah! I went there!!

I mean no offence to the cover designer, but the cover does not give any....any..... inclination to the story within. I see a more fairy tale cover.

This is a most refreshing modern fairy tale with all the right ingredients. Cinderella, Snow White, Little Red Riding Hood, I love you all, you...more

I was lucky enough to be given the chance to review this book, I was very excited to get started.

This book is such an easy read, in 75 pages Kristy Brown takes you on quite a spell binding adventure, one full of courage, betrayal, friendship and a evil, it truly captivates you. I found myself glued to every page, and not wanting it to end.

Kiera's Quest is a fun short read. It was a little hard to understand in the beginning for me, but was better as I read on. There were some problems with the flow of the writing, but it didn't take away too much from the story. Loved the premise! This book has a fairy tale feel. With an evil queen and a prince. I really liked the characters, and was pulling for Kiera all the way. If you like YA Fantasy, this book is for you.

I received this book from the author for review.

I found Kiera's Quest: Awakenings to be a really great start to a new and interesting world, it was well written and entertaining throughout.
I really liked that Zakk spent the first part of this story as a doll, it was definitely different; the banter between Zakk and Kiera was funny and I was kept interested in their plight against the evil Queen, while fighting off her minions.

With a fairly large cast of mysterious and captivating characters, Kiera's Quest is a fast paced and entertaining read...more

Such a beautiful and heartfelt story.
Kristy has written such an amazing story for both young readers and young adults. This story suited both ages for many reasons. The fact that Zakk comes to Kiera as a doll and he retaionship they develop really suits everyone. It’s like a transition, like being a tween. The inbetween stage of not being a child and not yet an adult.

Life for Kiera was made hard because of Zakk being a doll. I really felt that this story helps young people see what life is abou...more

A young adult book that is so well written that the ‘grown ups’ will want to read it too.

Kiera is a young girl who doesn't fit in, who feels she is different; and that is why the reader identifies with her. Kristy Brown has introduced a character that is so well written she becomes real in the reader’s mind.

An excellent opening to what looks like being an outstanding series of books. Bring on book 2

Hi I'm Kristy and I live in the U.K. I have always written short stories and poetry. I went to university to study acting which I loved, but my real passion has always been writing. So now I write the kind of stories I would have wanted to read when I was a teen. "Kiera's Quest-Awakenings" is my first ebook. There will be four in the series. I have written the chapters like scenes in a film, with...more
