I don't generally like paranormal romance, but it seems like I SHOULD like it, so I keep giving the genre another chance. This one seemed like it had potential, but then ... it didn't.

You will love this book if you enjoy the following descriptive gems found within its covers:

Personally, that doesn't really do it for me.

This is, it turns out, #6 in a series. I have not read the other 5, and I did not feel left out or confused. I now have a pretty good idea of what most of the other 5 are about, based on throwaway comments throughout this book. I got this one because I saw the guy on the cover compared to Angel. Stupid, I know.

Jessie, formerly Ally, is on the run from Big Bad Russell (she changed her name to make it harder for him to find her). He's her uncle, and she's not real sure what he wants, but she saw him kill her parents when she was 10 so she figures it's not good. She's got some sort of unknown Dark Power within her, and so does her Uncle Russell. Jessie meets Lochland when he comes to warn her off her blossoming romance with his brother, Magnus, because Lochland saw the future and saw Jessie standing over Magnus's dead body. Seems like a good reason to end a relationship, to be sure. Events ensue, yadda yadda yadda, Magnus ends up in a coma, and Jessie and Lochland are holed up in his secret sanctuary of a house in the woods. Lochland is handy with a sword, and sometimes he has a Scottish accent. They exercise a lot, don't wear a lot of clothes, and admire each other's bodies, but it would be WRONG to hook up with your brother's girl. Although Jessie insists she was never dating Magnus, they never even kissed! ... You can see where this is going. No surprise which brother she ends up in bed with.

One interesting angle is that both Jessie and Lochland are virgins. I know some people like to see that, so I figure I'd mention it.

I didn't particularly love this, but it was "okay" and two stars means "okay" ... so ... 2 stars. I'm laid up for the weekend with a sprained ankle and this fit the bill. Along with the other 3 or 4 books I'm reading!(less)

Can I start by saying I had no idea this was a series? I was strolling books one day bored and picked this book up because the guy on the cover was handsome. That being said, in this case, you should judge a book by it's cover.

First thing to say about this book, Not recommended for a young audience. I would say late teens and up depending on their maturity level. That said, I LOVED IT. I read it in less than 24 hours total and that was while watching my son. I could not put it down. I had to read it on my iPod because my nook wouldn't recognize it for whatever reason, but it was so good that I didn't mind. Also, this was an ARC book so it has not been finalized for production. This story takes on three different perspectives throughout. You see things through Lachlan, Jessie, and Russel's eyes. This happens through out the entire book and sometimes switches perspectives in each chapter. The hardest part about the read was realizing when the perspective was shifting. It could have just been how the iPod viewed the story, but I think that there needs to be some kind of line to split the sections to let the reader know that you are changing to someone else's view point. Most of the time it is very easy to recognize that you have had a scene change, but every now and then I would have to pause and reread a paragraph just to make sure I knew who was telling the story at that time. It's really the only complaint I have at all about it.

To the story...It is hot hot hot! You will be surprised by the way the events turn out and what an amazing job Jaime Rush does at character development. Lachlan is a Scottish decended barbarian at times who has turned monk after an act of violence he cannot forgive himself for. His part in the story is of a man who is trying to regain his honor through discipline and the absence of temptations. Jessie is the one tormented by Darkness, a supernatural element from another dimension that has been passed on to her from her father, a being from another dimension. He mother was killed when she was ten, her father killed (as far as she knew) and her uncle's soul living in her father's body. She loves life even though she lives in constant fear as her uncle has been hunting her down for the last two years. She indulges herself whenever she has the money to do so and feels this driving need to help others even when she feels that there is no help for her. Finally, Russel is Jessie's uncle trapped in her father's body. Russel is trying to get Jessie in order to reincarnate Jessie's mother, the true love of his life. Jessie is unaware of what is driving her uncle through most of the story and therefore believes he is just out to kill her, which really isn't that far from the truth. I won't tell you about that because that's best read in context of the entire story.

Jessie is hiding in the town near Lachlan's home and actually is "dating" Lachlan's brother Magnus at the start of the story. I say dating in quotation marks because really Magnus is pursuing, but they haven't actually dated yet. Jessie had the intention to date Magnus for a short period of time, but nothing serious because she fears the Darkness inside of her would eventually kill anyone she fell for. Events take a huge turn when Russel kills Magnus and forces Jessie to use her Darkness powers to bring him back to life, which is done at the insistence of Lachlan who has no knowledge of what Darkness is. Magnus is out of commission the rest of the story after this, but alive. This event cause Lachlan to insist that Jessie stays with him while they find a way to destroy Russel. Lachlan insists that Jessie is no longer alone in this fight and it is his responsibility to protect his brother's girlfriend so that once Magnus awakes, they may continue their relationship without fear of the future. What Lachlan doesn't realize is that Jessie has more in common with him than he could possibly imagine and he finds himself strongly attracted to her. He also doesn't expect the return of the attraction from her. There are several very intense scenes that will drive you wild. They are not like any scenes I have ever read in another book. I applaud Jaime's creativity in that department.

What happens as they learn more about the Darkness within Jessie? What powers does Lachlan posses? Are they destined to be together and defeat Russel? Will Jessie ever see her father's soul returned to his body again? You will have to read the story to find out when it is released! You will love it!

This is a new to me author, and I picked this book up as a galley on Edelweiss. This book is #6 in the series, but I didn’t really feel lost without having read the others. With that being said, I liked this one so much that I will seek out the previous books and catch up on them.

Darkness Becomes Her is a well written tale of the unknown! I was skeptical at first, having never read anything by Jamie Rush before this book. But now I am most definitely hooked!

To be clear:
This is only DNF because I didn't finish it, not because I wasn't enjoying it. It is a reminder to myself. I literally no longer have the book.

I'll probably buy it and finish it one day, but I've got so much on my plate, it's not going to be today.

In this story we read about Lachlan McLeod and Jessie Bellandre
I loved the buildup in the relationship between Jessie and Lachlan, They didn't just jump into bed and fall in love. They struggled with their feelings and Lachlan's honor towards his brother. It was nice to read that Lachlan had never been with a woman before.....but that didn't mean he didn't know what he as doing. The love scenes were well writ...more

This book just didn’t do it for me. I did read the entire thing so it’s not a DNF but I never felt any sort of emotional attachment to either characters making it even harder to get through.

There were three different perspectives in the book, Jessie, Lachlan and Russel and the transitions between them could be hard to follow. Could have been just the ARC addition that I read, but it was distracting and it hurt the connections I was attempting to make. Sometimes these jumps weren’t just chapter to chapter but within each individual chapter making it even harder.

I never felt the heat with these two. They do a lot of dancing around each other because Lachlan is convinced she is meant to be with his brother and he didn’t want to betray that. I understood, to a point. Jessie is constantly telling him that she only went on one date with the brother and that there were no feelings involved with them. Yet he still hold off. Because of this rift the heat just wasn’t there. What they do end up doing feels forced and just wrote in a attempt to move the story forward and push them together. The brother spends the entire book out of commission and not much is resolved with his personal story line and that left me wanting.

The vocabulary of the power in this book for the powers is just ridiculous. The author uses words like “darkness” to describe the anomaly that is Jessie and Russel’s powers. Then when they use these powers it’s referred to as “became”. What? How generic can we be? It felt like the author wrote the book, put generic words in meaning to go back and replace them when she actually thought of something interesting…and then never did.

I just didn’t “get it” . Not once could I seem to muster enough emotion to care about these two characters together. I wish it would have been different. I wan’t to like it, I just didn’t. I have not read the other books in this series, and based on this one, I won’t be continuing on.

Uh, what?

Okay I understand why it ended on a mini-cliff hanger but WHY!?

Lachlan is a great hero, he'd fit in in 17th century Scotland and because of his secluded upbringing he was a virgin. Oh and he's tortured because he killed his mother by accident while crazy.

Jessie doesn't know anything about the Callorians and the Offspring so we learn with her what the 'Darkness' is (it's good) which clears up some questions left over after The Darkness Within.

This was one of the best paranormal books ever ! I completely loved the characters and could not put it down, I really had to force myself to put it down and get on with my work and even then I could not stop thinking about getting back in there to read the rest of the awesome book!

I just want to quickly get the few negatives I had out of the way.

Firstly, I was a bit dissapointed that we only got a few glimpses of Eric and Petra, Pope and Cheveyo. I was hoping to see a lot more of the Offspring gang. Unfortunately, this book just didn't hsve the same feel to it as all the others. It could have easily been from a different series.

As our story begins, Magnus is trying to pull his brother back out into the world and tells him about Jessie, the woman he is hoping to start a relationship with. Lachlan suddenly gets a vision of Magnus dead at Jessie's feet --and knows he can't stop until he finds a way to keep his brother away from her.

Jessie is a woman on the run from her past. Ever since she witnessed her uncle killing her father, her life has never been the same. And now that he is out of prison, she knows he is hunting for her. Jessie knows she carries the same Darkness in her that her uncle does, but she doesn't know what it means. Suddenly, he finds her and in a violent showdown, nearly kills Mangus. She is able to save his life, but only by using the dark gift that she knows will infect him too. He slips into a coma as he recovers.

Lachlan decides to help Jessie hide from her uncle as she tries to figure out how to defeat him. He thinks there is much more between her and Magnus than there really is. And he feels like he can find some redemption in saving his brother's girl. But it becomes much more difficult to be honorable as he starts to fall for her.

Usually I cringe from adult virgin heroines, but here, Jessie has a good reason for her chastity. She is afraid her Darkness would harm her lover. And I was very excited to learn that our hero is a virgin too. Once you toss in the virginity with her fears of hurting him and his fears of betraying his brother... it's like the perfect storm of sexual tension. I really, really enjoyed the progression of the romance here.

As for the paranormal element of the story, I felt like this was the clearest explanation I have seen in this series on the origins of the characters' supernatural powers. And for the first time ever, I finally understood what "darkness" is. It's all still a bit convoluted, but I felt like I "got it" enough to be able to enjoy the book.

There were lots of twists and turns and I laughed out loud a few times too. The book had heart, danger, and sex appeal. My only complaint was that it ended before we could see the repercussions of the relationship. Hopefully, the next book will fill in those blanks.

I wasn't sure what to expect from this book. The main story arc of the series already wrapped up and all the main characters had their stories told. Lachlan hasn't played a huge role in the series and Jessie new. I may have been unsure going in but before I was halfway through, I was hooked.

Lachlan has been punishing himself for months and his brother Magnus is the only family he has left. When a picture Jessie, who his brother recently became interested in, sends his soul into the future to see his brother mortally wounded, Lachlan sets out to save him before its too late. Lachlan is a modern day highlander. He has the Scottish brogue and wields a sword with deadly accuracy. When Lachlan and Jessie alone, he tries his hardest to put aside his rapidly developing feelings for her because he feels it's not honorable knowing his brother cares for her, even though the feelings are mutual. His sexy accent and attractive exterior may have drawn me in but it was his honor and selflessness to help a complete stranger that had me falling for with the reluctant hero.

At a young age, Jessie lost her family to man with unusual powers, similar to her own. Since then, she's been in hiding. Lachlan steps in and decides it's time to help Jessie finally be free of the man by killing him first. Like Lachlan, Jessie is selfless in what she does. Each place she moves to, she risks exposure by helping children with major health problems through fundraising. There are a couple instances of lapse in judgment but nothing that made me want to write her character off completely. If I could commend Jessie on anything, it would be the way she refused to hide while Lachlan fights and the way she brought him back into the world. Lachlan was the champion she needed and Jessie showed him that despite his past, he was worthy of being loved. They didn't make it easy but in the end I thought this book had a very good love story.

Gone is the secret government project and mystery of the alien Essence of the earlier books. The 6th book in the Offspring series features men from parallel dimensions who are capable of manipulating a smoke/fog like substance, called Darkness, into becoming a lethal weapon. I know this sounds sci-fi like but I thought there was more of a paranormal twist to it. All the action and mystery that I've enjoyed in previous books is still there but the new story has taken it into a new and refreshing direction. I can't wait to see what author Jaime Rush has in store next for this series.

Darkness Becomes Her is the 6th book in author Jaime Rush's series, Offspring. I was blessed to receive an ARC and have to say this installment of the series was really amazing. When I began this series I truly enjoyed it but had no idea the direction the author was going to take and, I must say, I am quite impressed with all the twists and turns that have evolved.

We haven't seen much of Lachlan or Magnus so far in this series, so I was intrigued by this book as the boys are more on the fringes of the Offspring group.

I really liked the dynamic between the brothers. You can see that they have a great relationship and love to tease each other. Now that I am done with the book I worry about how things will go with them. Lachlan really tried to hold himself back from any kind of relationship with Jessie. I guess I’ll start by saying this book is fan-freaking-tastic!!! OMG, I love this series! It’s just so good and even though this isn’t my favorite in the series (it’s gonna take a lot more to top Cheveyo and Petra’s book), it’s still a favorite book of mine now. The characters are funny and entertaining, the story is very well written. Not confusing at all for those who haven’t read the previous books. Lachlan…sigh…Lachlan is the best kind of man. Passionate, loving, brooding, strong, sexy and let’s not forget the sexy Scottish accent he got from his mother! Man oh man did I want to eat him up! Hehe I went in to this book knowing what to expect from him. I figured he’d still be the mean angry man from the other books he appeared in. WRONG! Yes, he was angry but damn if he didn’t turn all sweet and mushy by the middle of the book. I was almost prepared to dislike him too but nope, I think I love him! Really I do! I just wanted to hug him and tell him everything would be ok, that he should stop placing blame on himself and live…but Jessie took care of that! :) And Jessie, wowee! Aside from Zoe (my fave female character in the series) Jessie is a fave now. I LOVE that she kicked his butt! She’s one kick-ass chick but she’s also willing to be a little vulnerable and accept help. There’s nothing I can’t stand more than a heroine that can’t accept help when it’s offered. Jessie didn’t want to but she did it anyway because it needed to be done! That made her stronger if you ask me. With both Lachlan’s background and Jessie’s background, they were made for each other!
The chemistry was explosive and without giving anything important away, they were very creative with that chemistry. If you’ve read it, you know exactly what I’m talking about, probably even know the exact page too because that scene was SO sexy! So so sexy!!! I re-read it like 6 times before I was ready to move on. LOL

Now for Magnus…I’m going to cry if he doesn’t get his own book! I NEED to know what happens with him. Especially with that ending…totally left hanging, I almost started yelling at my Kindle because dang it, I need more! LOL Jaime, I know you’ll read this (well I hope you will) I’m begging you to please not make us wait too long. Please! It’s gonna kill me not knowing. :) Pope was his normal self, very mysterious. I’d love for him to get a book too because he’s been a huge part of this series but I’ll survive if I can just find out about Magnus! :)

Oh and I can’t forget about that little twist in the story. I loved it, it was very fitting too! Made me love Lachlan a bit more and I thought ‘the twist’ was very amusing. So funny yet so heartbreaking. *sigh*

Once again I say, this book is fantastic! I give it 5 Moons, if I could give it more I totally would, because it’s just that good! I recommend it to anyone who enjoys Paranormal Romance and even some of those that don’t. Go buy your copy now so I can prove myself right…go on! :)

It is more of a spin off from the original series, which I don't mind at all, the problem was that is totally lacked the passion of the previous books. For me Lochlan and Jessie could have been side characters in someone elses book, I didn't love them and for some reason I didn't connect with them like I usually do with great characters.

There were just too many things in this book that annoyed me. The virgin thing! Really again? For me the virgin thing is getting old and boring. If I'm reading historical romance where it is appropriate for the times to be a virgin then fine but not in a book like this. Having said that I do understand why she did it and it does make sense, it's just a personal thing. Then there was the "relationship" between Lochlan and Jessie, I felt that it just lacked passion and fell flat and I was a bit annoyed by Lochlan's determination that Jessie belonged to Magnus... really? They went on one date! And my biggest pet peeve of them all... no girl over the age of 10 should be calling her father "daddy" unless she has some serious issues.

To be honest I'm sitting here trying to think about what happened in the book and I can't really remember. It wasn't memorable and didn't make me ignore my boyfriend so that I could finish it.

Despite all my issues with this book it's not a bad book. I don't think Jaime Rush could write a bad book. She's a great story teller and her imagination is amazing. It just wasn't as good as the others, which is the problem with writing a series, and I missed the other characters. You could easily read this book as a stand alone, you don't need to have read the other Offspring books to read this one, though I do recommend you read the novella The Darkness Within, it just gives you more insight into the Darkness aspect of the book.

I have complete faith that the next book in the series will make up for my disappointment in this one and I look forward to reading it. (less)

I have to say that the series is now back on track; in my opinion! I loved this story between Lachlan and Jessie! Laclan's naivety was so refreshing, I fell in love with him from the start! I think that is what made their relationship work so well was the fact that they both had so little experience in dealing with the world and the people in it. It made them a perfect match and it was charming to see them "awaken" to their own desires and to figure out what exactly to do with them.

This was my first book from this author ...and I was hooked right off the bat. I was drawn in by the storyline and there was action around every corner. If you like strong men and even stronger women..then you will want to follow this series. Paranormal has sky rocketed these last few years and this series is at the top. To get to know Jessie and Lachlan pick up this book and found out for yourself how great this book was.

This is one of my favorite series and after reading the novella The Darkness Within I couldn't wait to find out just what Darkness was and how it was going to affect The Offspring. 4.4 stars this would have been a 5 star book if the ending had not made me go what the heck. There had better be an ending at the beginning of the next book I will be completely Heart broken. The whole book was great amazing even the ending left me hanging. I am really glad I waited so long to read it book 7 is already out so I can move right in to it no waiting yeah.
