I was so happy to finally have the chance to read the second book in the Forgotten Castles Series by Jamie Carie. I knew The Forgiven Duke would end with some sort of cliffhanger just like the first book in the series.
I was not disappointed with this second book following Lady Alexandria Featherstone and her mysterious guardian, Duke of St. Easton whom she's only met once at a masquerade, although she's formed a close relationship with him though their letters to one another. This is romantic ad...more

First, there are three books in this series and none are stand alone. Once you’re done reading the first, which ends with a cliffhanger, you have to go to the second and third to find out what happens next.
This is the second book of this series and it starts off right at the ‘cliffhanger’ of the first one as the Duke catches the glimpse of his charge and a man she’s with on the ship bound to Iceland, of whose destination, or for that matter the man’s identity, the Duke is unaware of and must now...more

Alexandria Featherstone’s parents have spent their lives chasing mysteries, now they have disappeared. Alexandria is determined to find them. In this second part of the story, Alexandria agrees to marry Lord John Lemon since he agreed to go with her and help her on her quest. Just before the ship takes off for Iceland, Alexandria catches a glimpse of her guardian on the shore. Since the King sent her guardian to bring her home, she doesn’t want to connect with him, but they have been exchanging...more
At the end of The Guardian Duke, Alex is on the ship on the way to Iceland with her now fiancee, John. Thing is, she isn't sure if she did the right thing getting engaged to John, because her mind is still centered on the Duke of Easton, Gabriel. At the end of the first book, Gabriel watches as the ship sails away with the woman he has grown to care for. Yeah, that cliffhanger made me want to tear at my hair. But it was a good cliffhanger that made me look forward to this book even more.

The Guardian Duke left us with a nail bitter of an ending, but thankfully The Forgiven Duke picks up the story exactly where it left off. You will be able to give a brief sigh of relief but then the chase begins again.
This series is one, in my opinion, that needs to be read in order. I just don’t think that you would enjoy The Forgiven Duke, nearly as much if you read it as a stand-alone. I think there would just be too many nuances in the story that you would miss.

THE FORGIVEN DUKE by Jamie Carie is another interesting christian historical romance set in Regency England and Iceland. This is book 2 in “A Forgotten Castles” novel, but can be read as a stand alone, although,I would recommend reading “The Guardian Duke” first in order to get the feel for the characters and their plight. This is a powerful story of faith, trust,a struggle to find one’s parents, and find happiness. While,Alexandria Featherstone continues her search for her parents,Gabrielle, the Duk...more
The Forgiven Duke starts exactly where The Guardian Duke leaves off, as though it was merely the next chapter instead of the next book. Alexandria is on a ship bound for Iceland while her guardian, Gabriel, is left on the dock. Neither of them knows how their lives will change before they are reunited. Book two of the Forgotten Castles series follows their stories in alternate chapters.

The historical romance and suspense novel The Forgiven Duke by Jamie Carie is the sequel to The Guardian Duke. It is set for release on July 1 2012. In The Guardian Duke, Alexandria Featherstone began her quest for her parents, a pair of treasure hunters that are confirmed to be missing and assumed dead. The Duke of St. Easton has been assigned the task to be her guardian, but Alex is determined to find her parents. Events led her to agree to marry Lord John Lemon, the path of least resistance,...more
I did enjoy this second book in the Forgotten Castles series, however, unlike the first one I would not let my unmarried daughter’s read this book. I enjoyed all the plot twists but the violence, unmarried people lying and sleeping in the same bed, and lots of kissing and touching between unmarried people, is enough to send warning bells for young readers who may have read the first book. While I say this as a caution, I must admit I did enjoy the book, even though I didn’t agree with the choice...more

The Forgiven Duke is the 2nd in the Forgotten Castles series by Jamie Carie. She left us with a desire for book 2 once we finished book 1 and I was so excited to be able to read an Advanced Reader Copy of this book for review. I wanted to see what happened with the Duke and his ward Alexandria.
Letters travel between Alexandria and Gabriel, the Duke of St. Easton as she journeys to find her missing parents, who left on a treasure hunt, and haven’t been heard from in o...more

Jamie Carie has written a beautiful new series of novels that fall into her Forgotten Castle's series. The Forgiven Duke follows on the heels of it's predecessor The Guardian Duke, and picks up the story of Lady Alexandria Featherstone who is in search of her parents, treasure hunters who went missing. While its been a year, everyone else has now assumed they are dead but Alexandria isn't so sure and wants to go searching in their last known location in Iceland, at a place known as the Black Cas...more
Not only is this historical romance, but this is a tale of unraveling mysteries. Even though The Forgiven Duke is the second book of a series, I was able to glean most of what happened and catch on quickly to the plot. A young lady placed under the guardianship of a rich, handsome duke refuses to believe that her parents are dead and runs away from his protective custody. Her vow to do whatever it takes to find her missing parents leads her into danger, bad decisions, and ugly consequences. Can...more
This is a Christian historical romance with a bit of mystery involved as well. It is Book 2 of Forgotten Castles. This book starts off in Dublin, Ireland in November, 1818 and picks up right where book one left off. Gabriel Ravenwood, Duke of St. Easton, has just seen his ward, Alexandria Featherstone, leaving on a ship bound for Iceland in a search to find her missing parents. She is traveling with John Lemon, who she has agreed to marry so that they can travel together. Gabriel ends up getting...more
Beginning where The Guardian Duke left off The Forgiven Duke begins with Alexandria sailing for Iceland with her now fiance' John. Alexandria is still following the trail of her parents. She is convinced that they are still alive and in need of her help.
Gabriel watched her sail away just moments too late to catch her. He is devastated to have missed her and is determined to get the next ship to Iceland to follow her. The crown regent has other ideas for him though and has soldiers bring Gabriel...more

After reading book one in the forgotten castles series ‘the guardian duke’ I did not expect that book two would surpass it, but I was proved wrong in every respect with it being an outstanding read that was even better than the first. Having already lost myself within the regency period and the saga that surrounded Alexandria and the Duke of St.Easton, I was naturally keen to continue exploring the trials and tribulations that came the characters way. This was a most exciting storyline with the...more

Penny's Rating: C
Let me preface this review by saying, I am not religious. If I were, I probably really would have enjoyed Jamie Carie's new novel The Forgiven Duke a good deal more. The main characters are very, very Christian, and while that is probably accurate in a historical context, it really got in the way of the story for me.

My Overall Thoughts/Impressions: First off, I’d like to thank the publisher and the Netgalley team for allowing me to review this book.
I haven’t read the first book in this series which is saddening to me, because I absolutely loved this novel and the characters. I feel like Jamie did a great job at explaining what happened in the previous novel and I didn’t feel lost at all. I really enjoyed this...more

This is the sequel to The Guardian Duke. I couldn't wait to read this book and literally devoured it in two days. The author did not disappoint. The story continues where the other book left off with Alexandria and John on their way to Iceland and Gabriel just missing them. From there, this story takes the reader on a rollercoaster ride wondering if Alex and Gabriel will ever come together. (view spoiler)...more

*sigh*
This book is even better than The Guardian Duke.
There is all the adventure of traveling fearlessly through Iceland on horseback, being kidnapped and incarcerated by the Spanish Inquisition with all the political pomp and circumstance of the early 1800’s. I love the royal fight over the missing manuscript coated thickly with pretentious good manners. I love how Gabriel knows the game and plays along, biding his time for his own ends. And I love how Alex manages obliviously on her goodwill....more

I am not a fan of cliffhangers and excessive high suspension an action. I also am not a fan of highly religious books. This book has a lot of high suspense scenes and in my opinion some of which didn't need to be done. The religion aspect of this book is not stuffed in the readers faces, for which I appreciate and thus don't mind so much being in the book. I did see how the author thought Suspense and action necessary though and I can appreciate how it added certain depth and excitement to the s...more

The second book in her series, Jamie continues Alexandria Featherstone’s determination to find her parents. The struggles that face her and The Duke of Easton seem impossible to overcome. Alex suffers at the hands of those who want her parent’s knowledge and the missing manuscript pages. Will they stop at nothing? Threats come from surprising places. But with a growing faith the Duke is committed to her rescue, even if it means putting his life in grave danger. Love knows...more

A few weeks ago I reviewed the first book in this series, The Guardian Duke. The Forgiven Duke picks up right where the first book leaves off in the story.

Born and raised in Vincennes, Indiana, Jamie is a preacher’s daughter. Road trips with her dad—to and from Bible studies across Indiana—were filled with talks of things beyond earth’s bounds – creation and the fall, God and Jesus and the rapture, the earthly walk compared to the spiritual walk, and how we are born for more than what we can see or touch. The highlight of those nights was stopping a...more
