This series cannot be undersold, if you're into contemporary fantasy and are in the mood for something dark, look no further than 20 Palaces. It's a story about an every-man, just this regular guy that through sheer dumb luck happens to even survive encounters with creatures that regularly eat peoples faces off.

Wow! What a good read! The main characters were richly developed. The plots were interesting and really made me think. It is a pleasant and enjoyable blend of ass-kicking momentum, and science fiction/fantasy themes. Seriously hoping Mr. Connolly writes another few books about the adventures of Ray Lilly and the Twenty Palace Society as they try to save the world from paranormal predators....

This was another quick and fun read. I thought the pacing was good, and I couldn't put it down towards the end. I did feel that the level of destruction in the town was unbelievable (the scale would have caused greater notice), and the narration was repetitive at times (ghost knife, steak, shopping). I will read the others in the series.

If you are a fan of Contemporary Fantasy/Horror, the Twenty Palaces books are a Must Read. I'm glad I was able to pick up the omnibus edition because I bought the first two on Kindle, and these are stories I will always want to have on my shelves
