This is a lovely story about a variety of animals getting in to bed one by one, which makes it ideal for teaching children in the early years and KS1 about addition and subtraction. Props such as cuddly toys could be used to make it more kinaesthetic and visual. The pupils could even get in to the character of each of the animals and role play the story at the front of the class. The book acts like a nursery rhyme which could be taught to the children which would be great for more audible learne ...more

There were ten in the bed and the little one said "let's play!", so that was exactly what they did. They played all sorts of games, camping, dancing, pirates, trains and ghosts. They had such a great time.

This book is full of great illustrations, that are full of humour. There is such great detail in the pictures, which captures the child's attention. It could also be effective in cross-curricular subjects such as mathematics, the counting down from ten. A real fun read!

Borrowed this from the library after reading "Boy on the bus" but it didn't flow as well. My son still enjoyed it but not as much as the other title.

The story is based on the nursery rhyme "ten in the bed" except all the toys want to play and each page a teddy falls asleep so there are less teddies out of bed to play. Until the boy is left and goes to bed.

Penny Dale was born in Abbey Road near The Beatles' Studio, but grew up in Ottery St Mary. Her first school was so small that all the children were in one classroom, and even that wasn't full. She drew and made things all the time and her dad showed her how to use a hammer properly, something she's still proud of. She made plasticine models of everything she could think of.
