Sometimes I'm really trying to understand people's ratings here but sometimes I just wonder if I'm crazy or did we read the same book. This is one of these books.

You can't imagine how enthusiastic I was when I started reading this. It seemed like one of these books that you can't make mistake with, high rating, really good reviews, everyone seemed hypnotized by it, and most of all it's about angles and I'm fascinated by them since...ever. I was wrong and you can't imagine how much.

I won't brag...more Sometimes I'm really trying to understand people's ratings here but sometimes I just wonder if I'm crazy or did we read the same book. This is one of these books.

You can't imagine how enthusiastic I was when I started reading this. It seemed like one of these books that you can't make mistake with, high rating, really good reviews, everyone seemed hypnotized by it, and most of all it's about angles and I'm fascinated by them since...ever. I was wrong and you can't imagine how much.

I won't brag anymore but I can't get over it. I'm disappointed. Let me tell you about this story, there can be some small spoilers but I'll try to mark them (I don't promise anything):

1. At the beginning you'll met Evie, nice young girl who is freshman at college and you know how it goes. Then somebody, in this case Reed draws her attention. He's bad guy and most-beautiful-sexy-dangerous-attractive-addadjective(you can't make mistake)-guy on the planet. Okay, that's completely okay, the same start has like 90% of YA books, so I don't mind. What I mind is that form the moon you can see that he is (view spoiler).

2. Now let's move on with the story. (view spoiler) You don't say??

3. Now when we sort out who is who, you can imagine the relations between them. Then the story gets to complicate or should I say Evie. She can't decide what she wants, loves one, cares for other. Can't leave any of them. She finds out what she is and she must take care of everything. So she continues to drag, drag, drag.

4. Now the things get more complicated. (view spoiler) That was it, the moment when I stopped hoping.

5. Now we go back to the point 3. This book ends there, still don't know what happens next. So you have to read (I mean you don't have to, but you've already lost your time on this so what else can you possibly lose) book 2.

You pretty much understand that I'm frustrated. I don't want to be mean, I'm just trying to explain my reasons. I really wanted to love this book, but well it wasn't meant to be. (less)

I really, really enjoyed this book.

Amy's writing is beautiful. And her characters have depth and meaning and I cared about them.

For me this wasn't really a love triangle (Which I normally don't enjoy at all) but for me, the way Amy set it up and worked it, it didn't seem love triangly to me. I loved Reed one minute and then was done with him, and then loved him again. And Russell...honestly, I usually have one guy who is MY guy in a book. It's been a really long time that I had a book hold my attention like the way this one did. It kind of reminded me of the way I felt when I read Twilight the first time. That was definitely meant as a compliment. I was completely surprised by the way the story ending, and loved it. I also loved the location, because I lived in Michigan for a long time. It felt like home. I do like that Evie and Reed are on equal footing by the end. Can't wait to read the next book!!!

‘’Inescapable’’ is officially the first book I read in 2013. And I don’t have enough words to tell you how much I loved it. This book is like a drug and every time you read one chapter, you’ll become more addicted.

OH holy crap was this story awesome!!!! I'm a huge fan of angel stories, and this one has earned itself a spot in my very top favorites because it had me HOOKED!!!

Evie is heading off to her first year of college, nervous to be leaving her Uncle and hating the fact that she won't know anyone but the awkward kid she met during her visit to the campus. So she's taken aback when the gorgeous and butterfly-enducing Reed Wellington practically accosts her and tells her she needs to leave the school....more OH holy crap was this story awesome!!!! Hottie country-boy quarterback Russell is determined to be there for her as she struggles, and she can't deny a strong attraction to him, too. Torn between destiny and a fate she chooses, Evie's world is torn apart as she learns what she really is and what it means for everyone around her. She may not have the final say in what her future holds, even with the help of some serious allies.

First off, I absolutely LOVED Evie!! She's tough, strong, determined, and doesn't just sit around whining like some of the other heroines tend to do. I loved that Evie's already kind of bad-ass before she even starts to realize she's different; as an athletic, fairly outgoing, and daring heroine from the start, she is NO Bella Swan! When Reed confronts her, she sticks up for herself and doesn't let him push her around, and she is persistent about finding out what the magnetic pull to him means even if he's a total ass in the process. Part of what finally makes Reed change his mind about her (other than the butterflies he feels on his side) is how amazing this girl is; her bravery, witty comments, and determination win everyone over, me included!! Her friendships with Russell, Freddie, Buns, and Brownie showed off just how awesome a character she is, too, and I loved the banter between them and all of the fun moments they had together!!

Reed and Russell....*sigh* oh, this is going to be tragic one way or another. Russell is introduced early on as a potential love interest, and Evie's clearly sweet on this hunky guy from the start. I wasn't as smitten b/c the whole country bumpkin lingo with him really didn't do him any favors, but I did love that he was always there for Evie. Reed, though, had my heart at first sight!! Oh, yes, he's an ass, but picture Alex Petyfer telling you in no uncertain terms that he wanted you to leave while your stomach did a million flips and something pulled you to him like a magnet and you'll see what I mean!!! He's sexy and cocky just like we all so love, and when Evie is badly injured during a field hockey incident and he scoops her up and takes her back to his place...I knew Evie and I were both goners!! *swoon* But, alas, as we all know, there must be romantic drama to keep these stories interesting. Evie is so torn between what her soul wants and what her other half can't live without. The play-out of the love triangle in Inescapable was something that I really, really liked, though. I normally hate them, and I suppose I'll have to wait until the last book of the series before I can say for sure what I think of how it turns out. But for those of us that love those relationships where jealousy and fate tear the beloved couple apart temporarily while our hearts break along with them, it was VERY well done in this book. It was just the perfect combo of heartbreak, jealousy, humor, catty enemies, butterfly-enducing moments, and her guy protecting her with all that he has even if it's killing him inside. I got sucked right into Evie and Reed's growing love for each other, and when Reed pushes her away to protect her it was crushing. One of my favorite scenes in this book was at a dance, where Russell, Reed, and Evie all go with their own dates and are forced to sit with each other at a table. When Reed and Russell are talking in front of Evie about their situation, and Reed uses a football play as an analogy (as if she can't figure out what he's talking about!), he tries to figure out why Russell didn't swoop in and take care of Evie when he had to let her go. He asks Russell why the 'other team' (Russell) didn't pick up the fumbled 'ball' (Evie), and they go back and forth about how the 'ball' was mangled (heartbroken)...it was so cute how Reed tried to protect her without being obvious, and there was some serious sparks going on between them as he sat next to her at that table!! Whew!!

I've gone on and on about the romance blooming in this story, but Evie's discovery of what she and Reed really are and the dangers that come along with it are such an exciting part of this book. I think it's obvious from the cover that angels are involved, and let's just say Evie's very unique and therefore desired and/or feared by many!! What she is puts her in grave danger, and visions she has are terrifying her left and right. She knows something big is coming, and as she slowly figures out who's involved and what she needs to do, it throws everything into a tailspin. All of this leads up to a heartbreaking, gut-wrenching climax that had me at the edge of my seat, and even more unexpected twists that will lead into the rest of the series. I absolutely LOVE this story and these awesome characters, and I plan to dive right into Intuition so I can get back into Bartol's amazing world!! (less)

I tried really, really hard to like this book. I just... ugh, I just couldn't. Everything was so one-dimensional, I didn't feel anything for any of the characters. There was no build up, it was like crap would pop out of no where. "Oh, I hate you Reed because you're mean to me *wahh* but I love you because I can't stay away from you. Really?! WTF is with all the ridiculous high ratings???

Inescapable is just another tiresome retread of Twilight.
Don't believe me? Consider the following:
1) One passive heroine.
2) She moves to a new school & meets some pretty odd people.
3) There's a very attractive guy but is inexpliably hostile yet she feels a strange connection.
4) Another guy is nicer but he talks like a country bumpkin.
5) Weird things soon start to happen to her, but..
6) She's too helpless and needs others to assist her....more

Mrs. Bartol, you are one amazing author. I was captivated by your words and fell deeper and deeper into the story as I read it! Any person that loves paranormal romances, will no doubt love this one! The twists of the story were not expected and that is ALWAYS a great thing! This is going to be a truly inescapable series(in a good way)!

Sorry. i just can't care about these people. DNFed at 20% I didn't even get to the actual mythology which is so sad. I was so desperate to get into it, I read a couple of reviews and saw one explicitly comparing it to Twilight.

I'm so glad I'm done with this. I've been reading it on and off for almost twenty days, and it's come to the point where I just wanted to be done with it so it doesn't hang over me.

I'm giving the book two stars because there was a saving element to it, I'll talk about that later.

I will start off by saying that this book is a little (ok, maybe a lot) reminiscent of Twilight. Yes, I know.... I lost some of you. Sigh! We have a hero who is a powerful/strong supernatural being who could "crush" said heroine; we have a heroine who is "fragile" and at a new school (college) for the first time; we have a insta/co-dependent love develop between said hero and heroine with our hero first acting like an ass to push our heroine away; we have a best friend who heroine is also...more 4 Stars

I will start off by saying that this book is a little (ok, maybe a lot) reminiscent of Twilight. Yes, I know.... I lost some of you. Sigh! We have a hero who is a powerful/strong supernatural being who could "crush" said heroine; we have a heroine who is "fragile" and at a new school (college) for the first time; we have a insta/co-dependent love develop between said hero and heroine with our hero first acting like an ass to push our heroine away; we have a best friend who heroine is also in love with; we have a hero who likes to watch our heroine sleep and often does.... ok, the list really does go on and on. But alas, despite all of this.... I TRULY ENJOYED THIS BOOK! Call me a Twilight junkie or everything else but while the similarities are there, Bartol manages to create her own story and there are twists and turns that will surprise you.

The romance in this book seriously kicked my ass! I loved it, I swooned, I sighed..... and all of the above.... together. This is a book people.... FICTION. So, frankly, I want the romance to be a little over the top at times. Reed is the quintessential bad-boy/ass-kicking kind of "guy" that you cannot help falling in love with. Really, who can blame Evie for falling hard. And... yes...we have a love triangle. Generally, love triangles are the bane of my existence; however, kudos to Amy Bartol for doing it different. I never really felt like Evie was trying to make a choice between Reed and Russell. (view spoiler) It'll be interesting to see where the story goes.

While the romance is what made me love this book, there are so many other great aspects worth mentioning. The college setting is refreshing... period! The main characters are multi-faceted with complex needs and desires that create internal as well as external conflict. The shocking twists - especially near the end - that make this book quite the roller coaster ride. I can't wait for the sequel to find out what happens next.

The writing style left me a little detached from the characters at times but the storyline is so good and there are so many twists and turns you do not see coming that it was easy to overlook this. I loved how the paranormal element of this story is slowly revealed, ratcheting the tension ever higher, while the plot barrels forward at a thrilling pace. I highly recommend this book. I will be diving into Book 2.... about NOW!(less)

I enjoyed the story enormously, and the writing was better than average, with one (or two) substantive flaws. It is NOT my intention to nit-pick; on the contrary, I am definitely a fan, and will buy the sequels. I would love to encourage this author's writing. This book is guilty of the CRIMINAL misuse of the word "y'all." I am a native Southerner, and just about anybody who has spent more than a day south of the Mason-Dixon could have solved this problem in short order. Let us help! Southerners are perfectly comfortable with the word "you." We use it a lot, especially when speaking directly to another person. In this story, one of the love interests, Russell, is from North Carolina, and I don't think he uses the word "you" a single time. "Ya," "Yer" and "Y'all" are all over the place, and just ... no. It's bad. I would never say to another individual, "I love y'all." I would say, "I love you." I might tell a GROUP of people "I love y'all." And "all y'all" is generally more than two people. So, let me recap. One is you, two is y'all, lots of people is all y'all. PLEASE fix Russell's dialect - it's bad.

My second point is less emphatic, because I'm less proficient on the subject. The author inserted a fair amount of teen slang into the dialog, and it often felt forced and awkward to me. That might be because I'm old, and my slang would date my high school and college years to the '80s. I have, however, read a lot of YA this past year, and the slang inserted in conversations here (more so early in the book, and steadily improving towards the end) felt off.

Those two annoyances aside, the story was enormously compelling. The romance felt true, and intense, and I loved the various friendships and the way they unfolded as the story went on. The author had a couple of fabulous twists that I never saw coming, and she played out the ending just right, and led us right into the sequel (which I will buy immediately.) So, I highly recommend this one, and you are warned in advance that this is not a good model for "how to talk Southern." :-) A great start for this author!(less)

This book was awesome! I loved Evie and Reed and their chemistry. Evie's voice was so realistic with her spunk and attitude. Her description of college life was true to form and even through Evie was a "good girl" for the most part she had a deliciously rebellious side.

The ending was sad but I cannot wait to start the second book and learn more about her transformation and where she came from and of course I can't wait to spend more time with Reed. Their love scenes leave me breathless.

While checking the stats on "Enchantment's" Amazon page, I noticed a new novel in the "Customers Who Bought This Item Also Bought" window.

This book had many, many redeeming qualities, but I have to be honest: my absolute favorite parts were when Reed randomly spouted off how long she was asleep, down to the minute.

Killed me Every. Single. Time.

I will admit though, the soulmate dynamic drove me nuts. Pretty much everything ABOUT Russell drove me nuts, right down to his twang. I started reading this book because I was so excited to take part in the Read-A-Long being hosted by SupaGurl Book. I had never read this series before, but I had definitely heard of it because SupaGurl Books is like my favorite blog so I always check out to see what they are reading!

This book was so amazing! I don’t even know where to start!

First there is Evie, I don’t think I really liked her too much in this book because she was a little annoying… at least until she started evolving and well at the end of the book she was total kick ass. However, throughout most of the book I found her a little annoying.

Then there is Reed, I seriously had a love/hate thing going on with him in this book, some chapters I was totally swooning… others I wanted to cause him bodily harm. He is overbearing, protective, and he is also an ass most of the time… however there were times when he was the sweetest thing ever!

Then there is Russell… now once I met Russell, even before I knew what we were dealing with it was like insta-book love! Russell is jus the sweetest thing EVER! And he obviously loves Evie so very much (even if she is a big meanie and doesn’t give him a chance) Even when Russell was being an ass to Evie, I still loved him! *sigh* he is my #BookSoulMate for sure!

I think what I loved best about this book was the fact that we get to see the way an angel evolves… its pretty cool because they seem to get different abilities at different times, and when Evie would develop something new I was like ‘Wow! That’s pretty cool’ and it was seamless, obviously not believable because well angels and evolving doesn’t exists, but Amy Bartol is able to make you THINK its believable which was just awesome!

We were suppose to read a few chapters a day for this book, but it was just so good that I think I actually finished it in like 2 days, and then had to force myself not to start on the second book!

If you haven’t checked this book out yet, you are so missing out! Especially because of what happens in the books to come! (less)

I don't think this was a bad book, but it turns out, it just wasn't my cup of tea. That's sad since I love angels and there sure were plenty of them to go around in this book (loved Zephyr).

I have mixed feelings about this one at the moment. I love paranormal romance stories and I was looking forward to read this one. I really didn't know what to expect from this book when I read the synopsis, however I was pleasantly surprised when I found myself squealing like a nine year old while reading this book. I have to say that only books that I'm really involved in can make me act like I'm fangirling over an inanimate object. So I commend you , Amy Bartol, you have officially garnered a new follower!!! This is without a doubt one of my all-time favorite books!

To each their own but this book is so fabulously written and full of awesomness that it beats out many a traditionally published book anyday! That's right this is an Indie book people! Meaning self-published and it is spectacularly done!

Amy writes about angels and soul-mates, love and loss, friends and enemies in such a way that you are gripping a pillow to your chest one moment and yelling at the characters the next.

Let me say that I am BLOWN AWAY by this book. The editing alone in this is magnificent! I looked at it from a reader's view as well as an author's view, and I just cannot believe the amount of work that went into this. I can almost feel the pain of the editing that went into this. The way that Amy has written her book, it honestly flows and flows very well. I was very impressed with her style. Amy takes you by the hand and eases you along with the story, allowing things to develop and for ideas to flourish.

When I first started reading the story, without giving anything away, I thought "oh God...another vampire story," but let me tell you, that isn't the attitude I kept when I read further into the book. I'm not going to tell you what it is about, I will not crush your anthill. This book is going to shock and awe you. There were times when I was overwhelmed with excitement and wanted to blow up her twitter account saying "OMG, this part hits home, and this part, and this part!" But I didn't! And I'm sure she was probably glad for that!

This book is a rather long book, at least compared to the lengths I'll read, but this book has just been constructed and written so well that it almost makes me feel like I should have paid for it twice. The length and overall quality of the book for $2.99--astonishing. There are some parts in the book that I personally felt like "okay...we're coasting along" but it's as if Amy could read my mind, because there was always something that happened and got my heart and mind racing. She steadily builds to the climax. It is like a heart beat that is steadily increasing. NOTHING in this book is a dead end that leaves you wondering, or thinking "what was the point of mentioning that?" or "where was this going." Amy has done her homework, Amy has worked incredibly hard on this fantastic piece of literature. There is just so much covered in this book and new or different perspectives on views and just...so much in this book, I could go on forever about it, but I wont. So the only way you are going to know is if you GIVE THIS BOOK A TRY!

So who is Amy Bartol and why would you be interested? Read the book, you'll know why. As far as who she is? A FANTASTIC author and soon to be a household name.(less)

This might possibly be the most boring book ever.
I picked it up and the beginning was like, "Wow, not bad Bartol."

Then Evie becomes immersed in Reese in that predictable way and I’m like, I’ll plow ahead and hope it gets better from here. It can’t be that bad right?

WRONG! This girl is so unbelievably stupid it’s appalling! When she finds out that her dorky friend “Freddie” is actually an evil psycho, she sits calmly in the car talking it over.

Well.....that book freaking rocked! Holy crap I love angel/nephilim stories. It's so intriguing how every author puts a different spin on it. And it never seems to get old. I saw this book way before I got it. I don't know why I never picked it up before a friend recommended it to me. Stupidity I guess lol. But seriously, this book was a home run. And it you love angel stories like Hush Hush you will freaking love this series.

So, so, so good!

After reading the Providence series and now jumping into Inescapable, it is beyond my understanding how Twilight was the one of this similar paranormal YA genre to rise to enormous fame. Maybe people just like sexy vampires more than sexy angels. Ha! But, these books/series are SO MUCH BETTER!

So many things to like about Inescapable:
