What if time were a pendulum that swung to and fro through the ages? At one end of the arc science and technology held dominion while at the other end of the arc alchemy, sorcery and magic ruled. In the very near future that pendulum is going to the threshold where science and technology holds sway and move into the region where alchemy, sorcery and magic are the mainstay ...more

Alchemy, Sorcery & Magic: A New Age Begins by Jeffrey A. Michael

Technology no longer works and magic has ascended. Chaos quickly reins the world as people have to come to grips with how things are going to work. I REALLY wish there were half stars! I would have rather given it 3 1/2 rather than 4, but I always bump up the stars when I'm on the fence. I received this book through the First Reads program and I'm glad that I did. This is a quick read with an interesting premise. The notion of Alchemy and Sorcery has been fascinating for such a very long time and in this book, the author tells us of the tale of the search for Merlin's journal and the desire to bring alchemy, sorcery, and magic back. I had to stop about 20% into the book. It has an interesting premise, but the writing was not quite my style and the formatting on the Kindle included a bunch of repeated sections as well as sentences that ended prematurely and then picked up again a few pages later. Perhaps other formats of this story are not as frustrating to read.

This book has/shows promise and is a great introduction to the world of Alchemy, Sorcery and Magic. The story is a little disjointed at times, however i can see areas for the main characters development. I have no doubt the Author has already penned the following books in the series.
