The Night Off has been on my "Recommendations" list for quite some time, however, I've been ignoring it for many months as I thought it wouldn't be something I'd enjoy reading. I'm happy to admit I was wrong... I loved it!

This book is much more than the cover/blurb leads to believe. Sure, there is plenty of sex involved, however the characters and the story behind the sex are what makes this book so enjoyable ;-)

some might think this is a bit of a biased review because i know Meghan and im a little bit in love with her, but the truth is this story is just plain hot. i loved Thirteen Hours, but The Night Off, not only takes that level of sexiness up a notch, but i found these characters to be more likable.

i loved that Nat was a butch with a heart. i hate reading about butch lesbians that are cold and standoffish as if that being a dick is just part of being butch. Emily is totally my type --i love a sex...more
This book is so hot that it took one of my "turn-offs" and made it a "turn-on"! (view spoiler) The first sex scene lasts 4 chapters and I was still ready for more by the time the next one came around!! Well done!!

Most of the story centers around Nat and Emily, the two main characters. There is some world-building through secondary characters, but not much. However, I still...more
I have long doubted whether The Night Off, would be a book for me. I really do like a lot of intimate scenes, but there should be more than sex. I was worried that sex would be the only quality. I was wrong, it was also a character study. Yes there was a lot of sex, but this was also to deepen the characters. This was my first experience with Meghan O'Brien, and this made me want more. Did I mention that this book is hot, hot, hot from beginning to end!

Smoking hot...and I do mean hot. Meghan grabs you at the first page and hits you full on, then she never lets up. Lovely characters, wicked hot sex, and a beautiful love story...what's not to love?
First off... ignore the cover. There is ZERO femme/femme action in this one. But if you are a fan of 13 Hours then you'll probably like this one as well. It's basically the same porn script template with about 50% straight up sex and the second half straight up hideous character development.

The biggest difference in this one being the leads are butch and femme and they have over-the-top sappy histories (as opposed to the pure perfection and f/f leads in 13 Hrs). You'll even come across one butc...more

Great sex scenes. Plus, decent plot and character development for the length and type of story. Some people might find the simplicity of the language or cliche/obvious emotional themes disappointing, but I applaud O'Brian for not over-complicating what she does best: sex. Definitely better than the average f/f romance.
I haven't read many books where kink plays such a pivotal role. I really enjoyed the book and how the "non-vanilla" sex scenes were handled.
Female Person

The sex was superb. Perfect kink.
This book was OK. I didn't like it as much as i thought i would, or as much as others did. To me it just seemed cold and impersonal. I think this might have been caused by the fact that the book started right off with the two women being intimate in a 'professional' setting; so there was no build up of sexual tension. As the book progressed, i was more able to understand and feel for the characters, but by that point, i had already judged them to be shallow. I just didn't feel the chemistry as m...more
If you are looking for an in-depth read, then move along this one, is not it!

If you are cold and don't mind a little 'moisture', then this one is for you. It will warm you up real good.

A hundred-something-pages of detailed foreplay and sex-play. And if you squint, you'll see a plot somewhere in there.
This would have been a good 15-20 page short story, but there really isn't much going on here to justify novel-length. The story was repetitive, filled with typical lesbian romance novel meander, and the characters never felt particularly "real" or nuanced.
Started off very hot with the first encounter between Emily and Nat, as a business transaction. Then while the romance and feelings between them grew stronger I felt the story grew more and more unrealistic. Between Emily's sister and a client of Nat' s who just so happens to own a restaurant and offers Nat the chance to cook professionally, it just felt off for me. Seemed just a little too happy for me. Not that I don't like HEA...I just like a little more realism behind it. But this was a dece...more

Meghan's best yet, which is saying something as The Three by Meghan O'Brien is one of my all time favourite reads.

The characters are conflicted and real, the sex is hotter than Hades and the story is fast paced and believable. The only issue that I have (as I have with all of Meghan's books) is that I am totally left wanting more and more.

Chapeau Meghan!
This book...oh my...

Hotter than hell and sweeter than chocolate. If you're not a fan of lots of sex in a novel, this may not be for you. If you ARE a fan, you will love this. O'Brien handles the BDSM scenes quite well (and hotly), but doesn't skimp on the growing relationship. Her characters, as always, are real. No caricatures. I found myself caring what happened to them.

Short review: read this.

Once again Meghan puts together an interesting story with the perfect mix of erotica and romance. Although I would say The Night Off leans less towards romance then Thirteen Hours. Regardless I have to say, The Night Off is another stellar effort by Meghan O'Brien!
Everything was perfect until Nat was still doing her job as an escort. I just felt like being cheated. I do not like cheating in my MM books so it applies to my FF books too..
Very hot, but very emotional. I liked how even though they move to love very quickly, both characters acknowledge it. One of my favourite books so far this year.
It was cute story. I felt it moved a little slow at the beginning but the story flowed. I like to read books with a bit more into BDSM otherwise, really cute.
Loved this book, Emily was a little annoying, but still a good character.
And Nat! *fans*

Super hot book.
good book... very sexy. The book cover is not very relevant tho, IMO.
