Big Birthday by Kate Hosford
* I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review*

Annabelle wants to have the best birthday ever so she decides to have her party on the moon. Things don’t go as planned when you have to wear a spacesuit, you can’t eat cake and ice cream and your new clothes won’t fit over it. The candles won’t light and dancing stirred up too much dust. Her friends weren’t having a good time and just wanted to go home. Next year, a nice pirate birthday...more

Annabelle wants her birthday on the moon. However, she soon discovers that big birthdays come with big challenges.
This is a ridiculously fun book to read. The pictures only add to the fun – they are bright and inviting. I had a blast reading this book. I could not believe she actually got her birthday party on the moon when the book started. It’s fun and delightful.
A great book to get kids talking about planning ahead when they ask for something like a party on the moon. What are the challenges...more

I loved the illustrations, but I felt like the rhyme flow was off in places and that threw me. I also agree with other reviewers that the gravity/oxygen issues on the moon could have been explained a little so the child reader wouldn't be confused about why, for instance, the birthday candles wouldn't light. I also was a little annoyed with Annabelle's attitude- she came off rather whiny. I did like the purple pirate ship, though. Purple pirate ships are always awesome.

I can't tell - did they really go the moon or was it all imagined? These psychological thrillers always throw me, I never know what to believe. :) Also, Annabelle is kind of a brat.

The illustrations was wonderful in this book. The story although good, could be confusing to some kids. For example, when the candles will not light, a child will not know why this is. It could open up converation between parent and child which is great or it may confuse the child and be frustrating.
