Picked this up off the library shelf when I was trying to avoid doing research. Once upon a time, a few decades ago in fact, writing novels and short stories were a big thing. The public knew the names of the authors - Updike, Roth, Bellow, Salinger - and when their books came out, the public noticed. Almost all of the writers were men and most of them were at least partly attracted to writing for the same reason other men were attracted to playing in bands. It got you girls. Yessiree, Bob. Friedman's memoir is heavy with name dropping but in a way that makes for a fun read.

Won this on Good reads. It is a wonderful look inside post war America through the eyes of the Author. Usually i am not drawn to memoirs but I could not put it down. a must read.
