I liked this book, but it was a little confusing at first have two different plots going on at the same time. Though, as I read it more I got used to it and it was an awesome book!I really recommend it to anyone and everyone! The two main characters Stan and BJ I absolutely fell in love with. BJ started out as a working man, good for anything you need him to do, but then is turned into a nervous wreck by a dream that keeps repeating itself, as the dream continues and BJ does more reseach into it...more
Two stars. Officially at Good Reads the means "it was ok." That about says it for me. I made it to the end. Simply put, it's generic "pop" writing. a rearrangement of cliches or riffs published in the hope of hitting the best seller lists. The literary equivalent of a pop record or for most of what passes for commercial song writing these days. At one point I was even put in mind of Some Like It Hot.
Ah well...every so often I have to read one of these.

For weeks now B.J. has been having the same dream over and over again about a woman he has never met. The dreams are wearing on his sanity as he searches for an explanation for why fear rages in the stranger’s eyes. While halfway across the world, Stan Halsey is looking for his wife. She was supposed to arrive in Saudi Arabia shortly after him but somehow, once landing in the Kingdom, no one has seen her since. Stan searches official offices to discover that there are no records of him even havi...more
As far as International thrillers go, this was my favorite. However I found that some of these things can, and probably do, happen in real life. What I liked was how B.J. had dreams of a place that he has never been to before. Medicine and doctors are no help. He is stuck with the dreams. Finally he decides to travel to where his dreams take place, Munich. Once he gets there the book explodes into all sorts of thrills and drama. My mind was racing back and forth, in a good way. I truly enjoyed t...more
This book was exciting, I could picture the details vividly, and imagine it as a movie! I was once again entranced by a book that I did not want to put down. It's not that these stories are hard to pick back up a few hours later, it's more that they're so exciting and full of suspense that it makes you not want to be pulled away from the story. There are so many plot twists and turns that you don't see coming, that you can't wait to see what is coming up next. Someone said to me, "You know these...more
“Covert Dreams” by Mike Meyer is a cleverly told, multi-layered mystery/ detective story that kept me guessing and wondering from the beginning.
It starts with the murder of a girl in Munich in 1984, then moves 27 years forward, where B.J. splits from his girlfriend because of his recurrent dreams about the murdered girl. As he starts to feel that he knows her and speaks German – despite that not being possible – he even hires a private detective to find out about the girl.

This book is a fast paced thriller that kept my attention throughout. There are two main characters and each has his own plot going on in the book. First we have BJ, a hard working man who is trying to earn a living. Things are going well until he starts having reoccurring dreams of a city he's never visited and a woman he does not know. As the dreams turn into nightmares his life begins to unravel.
Then there is Stan. He and his wife decide to start over after the death of their son and the pla...more

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. B.J. and Gina are a wonderfully loving couple. They wanted children, but that was not to be, yet through even that, they became closer than ever…until now. His dreams have begun taking taking over his life! What’s real? What’s not? Is he losing his mind???

What is the single most important thing you learned from reading this book? If I had to pick a message or a lesson, I would say this book tells you not to take things for granted. If I had to pick something from the storyline, I was in awe of the author's writing style. His description about Munich makes you want to visit the place.

B. J. had the nightmare five nights in a row. Gina wanted to help him, but she didn't know what to do. The dream was always about Munich and the girl. It seemed so real he couldn't quit thinking about it. For B. J. it had been over a month and the dreams were still coming, but now he had a name for the girl, Dabbie. He felt like he knew Munich intimately, even though he'd never been to Germany. In his dreams he spoke German, but he didn't know German. He knew he had to find out what was going on...more

About The Book
B.J. seemed to have his life on track, or so he thought. Then the dreams began. Who was this woman in his dreams? She wasn't his wife. Why do his dreams all take place in Munich, Germany? As the dreams continue, they turn into nightmares that he can't escape from. Despite trying everything, including doctors, the nightmares continue. BJ's life begins to fall apart and he questions his own sanity.

The idea that governmental agencies are at work manipulating the minds of those who have done terrible deeds in their name has appeared often in thriller lit, starting perhaps most famously with "The Manchurian Candidate," although the idea of using chemical manipulation to shift from one persona to the other goes all the way back to Jekyll and Hyde, or perhaps even to "A Midsummer Night's Dream."

I've never read a book that was such a mind blowing twist from beginning to end. What I thought I understand was only the tip of the iceberg in learning the hidden truths. Hidden truths continued to weave thru out the entire book. The author has created such a rich tapestry of characters that leave you wanting to know more about them. Here are my thoughts about the book:

I really liked the book. This is not my usual genre but I am happy I gave it a try. The plot is interesting and the book is suspenseful till the end. I could not put it down. But it was a little confusing with all its details.

In Greek Mythology, Cassandra was given the gift of prophecy, but the curse that nobody would ever believe her. In Covert Dreams, the characters must have felt much like Cassandra.

Everyone assures him that it doesn't mean anything, but he knows and we know that it does. Meanwhile, in Saudi Arabia, a man is going crazy looking for his wife who has disappeared. I was totally captivated reading this riveting international thriller. I was bounced back and forth from the beer gardens and streets of Munich to the deserts of Saudi Arabia. This story kept me totally involved from beginning to end and all points in between.

What did you think of the cover? It took me awhile to actually understand what it was. But when I was done reading and I looked back, I understand that the image sheds some light on B.J. dream and the story itself.
Was the book different from what you expected? It was. I was expecting a more straightforward mystery. But this is a compelling story with more than one twist and really messes with your head. In a good way.

This is a thriller with connections in Munich Germany, Saudi Arabia, kidnap victims and some very strange persistent dreams that the central character, B. J. is having about a young woman called Dabbie that he seems to know so well in them. B. J. thinks he is going crazy, his wife is suspicious and he is making a mess of his life as a consequence so he decides to get to the bottom of this.

Conspiracy theories run rampant in this international thriller as Mike Meyer takes you on a psychological journey that questions the fine line between reality and insanity. Stan has a perfect life, until his wife suddenly vanishes without a trace and with no record of her existence. BJ is living with a repeating nightmare so vivid and real, that he begins to question whether or not it’s actually happened. As they fight the doubts of others to prove that their memories are real, they encounter ki...more
I downloaded this book as a freebie last week. It came when Amazon.ca finally opened it's own kindle section. I am so glad that it was free because it was not something I enjoyed at all. One man, BJ, is having the same dream every night for 3 months. It's about a girl in Munich but BJ has never been to Munich and doesn't recognize the girl. Lack of sleep is destroying his life. Stan Halsey and his wife Valerie are moving to Saudi Arabia for a year of teaching at a university. But Valerie has dis...more
It took me a little while to get into the story. At first I found jumping from the character BJ in the US in one chapter to another character Stan finding his wife 'missing' in Saudi Arabia confusing as I would have to remind myself who was doing what and why. Once the dream scenario took off and I knew that Valerie, Stan's wife had 'disappeared' from trace, it became clear that these stories were intertwined and would all somehow wrap up in Munich where BJ's dreams took place in 1984.

Straight off the bat you start wondering what on earth are the dreams about and then you are thrown another strand of the plot about Stan's wife going missing in Saudi Arabia but with no official record of her having existed. I loved that this book because it kept me guessing at what could be the possible relationship between the two guys. I do think the book was a little bit r...more
Received this ebook as part of Read it and Reap It #25 by Shut Up and Read Book group.
At last a really good book, it ensured that the reader sticks with the story (for me it happened after 50 pages) and never makes you feel that you are reading something which you will never remember. A very intriguing story and really strong characters, sometimes it felt that its slightly too much but still it never makes you keep the book down.

Mike Meyer did a great job at capturing my attention and keeping it for the entire book! The Book starts out from two pov's, B.J. who is a middle aged married man who is having very vivid dreams about a women he has never met, and Munich Germany were he has never been. Stan on the the other hand has just arrived in Saudi Arabia for a new job. He soon finds out that his wife has gone missing. You are soon thrown into this thrilling adventure set in Munich Germany and Saudi Aradia. I kinda guessed...more
I have received a free copy of this book through a GoodReads First Reads giveaway.
I wasn't even going to write a review, thinking of the old line, "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all." Then I read several reviews written by others. I am baffled that not one person mentioned the awful clunky analogies that ended several chapters. I don't wish to be cruel here but they were bad enough to be funny. ("His heart was beating like a jackhammer gone haywire, like an agitat...more
This was a solid thriller. It's not the usual genre I read in but it kept me hooked until the end and I will definitely search out other books by the same author. There were times when I found myself a little confused by the expositions on covert government operations, but the action sequences were great and even when I thought I had the plot figured out there were a couple of surprises left to come. It was clear that the author had experience of both the main locations of Munich and Jeddah and...more
Very suspenseful book. I started to figure it out towards the end and was somewhat correct but there was so much more.

This story had huge potential but completely failed at the end. I felt I was going around in lots of very small circles for the first half but it then started to build into something good, I was invested in the characters and looking forward to finding out what was going on.

Covert Dreams by Michael Meyers is a thriller of international proportions; a non-stop, suspense-filled story of a murder in Munich in 1984 which comes into play in the present time in Saudi Arabia. Full of twists and turns, the protagonist is haunted by dreams which add a psychological mystery to the story.

Michael Meyer’s COVERT DREAMS is an engaging tale that quickly harnesses the reader into the conspiracy and collusion of foreign intrigue. The characters are sympathetic and so well-written that readers will experience their fears and frustration in not being able to break free of a bad dream. But, is it a dream? Meyer keeps his readers on their toes. Don’t be too hasty in thinking you have it all figured out.
