Don't think I've read a book by this author. Picked it up for a little "light" reading. Was disappointed in the character development and somewhat in the plot. Hard to accept that a 19 year old could step in and run a global company, even if this is set in early 1900's England. Characters are introduced into the plot and then not fleshed out completely. For example, I never could get a handle on Margot Grant and then she just disappeared in the plot even though some very dastardly...more

I have never read one of her books before this one. I am injoying it so far ... only on chapt. 16 or so today. It seems to be a sort of who-done-it with saga overtones with just a touch of romance/intrigue thrown in for flavor!
Finished this one and did enjoy it ... and, will probably check out the sequel from the library soon.

Fans of family saga's
I loved Barbara Taylor Bradford's "Emma Harte" series/saga and so I had high expectations for this new saga. At first I wasn't sure if I liked this book or not but the closer to the end I got, I realized that it's very good and was looking forward to the next book. It's not as good as the "Emma Harte" saga but it's worth reading.

Don't you hate it when the summary on the flap of a book is almost NOTHING like it turns out to be??? I went into reading this book thinking it was going to be completely different, but after accepting that fact, it is actually turning out to be pretty good. Only 200 pages in, but enjoying it....

This is a wonderful book. I read the second book in this set first and even though I did I enjoyed every minute of this book. It tells a story about a family and the turmoils that they have gone through. It really didn't matter if you read this book first or second.

I was really disapointed in this book. The writing was good, and BTB's characters are always multi faceted, but I could tell when she got tired of writing this story! It wrapped up and ended so fast, and should have taken time to explain a few more things.

This book was really good up until the last half. Found it lacking depth and really was hoping for a sequel to finish it off. Felt it was a rushed ending and had too many convenient endings for the adversaries. All in all, still a good read.

historical fiction lovers - loosely
This is a historical fiction in which the time era was changed from the Edwardian rule in England to that of a industry leader in very early 1900's, his name was Edward too. Life as strange as any fiction.

Got this from the library. I love Barbara Taylor Bradford books and this one's no exception. A great saga about the Deravenel family.

I found this book to be very interesting and entertaining. I am now reading The Heir which continues the saga. It, too, is excellent

I love all of her books, but especially the trilogies. She gets you so invested in the characters. I can't wait to read the next one!

Set in the early 1900s. Great mystery and drama. Listened to the book on CD - first time doing that. Really good.

Usually don't read this kind, but can't put down. This is a trilogy - can't wait to read the last one.

Was so excited to see a new book by this author. enjoyed the story: the triumphs and the tragedies that changed the lives of the characters. There's enough intrigue to keep the book interesting! As soon as the other two books came out, just had to read 'em. always know that i'll enjoy her books and look forward to them.
